One of the things I've noticed about screenshots you've put out recently:
They're all kind of dark, and they are rarely colorful, but in my opinion that's a very good thing with Dreadsky Depths as a whole. Things like the streaks of sandstone going through the stone instead of just having them be spread evenly really makes the areas seem cave-themed instead of just being areas that take place underground.
Basically, what I'm saying is that if the rest of the map is made in the same style as that screenshot, Dreadsky Depths will be the first true cave-themed map to come out in a very long time. And that's something I'm definitely looking forward to.
Well you've hit the nail on the head there, as far as how I'm aiming for the aesthetics to go. There will be some colorful areas (Parasitic Paradise comes to mind, thinking I might redo that area with 1.7 flowers...) but for the most part it will continue to be dark. I'm really hoping it works as a whole and doesn't just come across as bland and monotone.
Holy moly. Cool screenshot, pal! I have (unfortunately for me?) made a somewhat similar area, but I suppose (and I do so to make myself feel better) that most cave maps are gonna have similarities in one way or another. Cheers!
Yeah, the layout for Jaws of the World isn't exactly a new or hugely unique thing, but I'm hoping for there to be a few other aspects that set it apart from other areas.

So.... Community question:
How long does a beta test take usually until all of your testers finish the map (assuming they're all not doing something like taking months upon months to test, and the beta test started once the map has been completed)(nothing to do with Septum Immoriel, just curious because I've started beta testing recently and people are testing my own map. Testers of my map: remember, asking just because of curiosity, I don't want you to start speedrunning my map or something like that).
Hey all. Planning a stream plox, with a friend. He wants to try CTM again, so I'm looking for something a bit easier-more loot, less trouble for him-I was thinking of Greener Pastures, honestly. Feel free to join us!

Hey there all. I stream CTMs as well as other indiegames, RPGs and more. Check me out: www.twitch.tv/aurabolt
Community Question:
what is your favourite intersection from any CTM map ever?
For me it's Intersection 5 from Pantheon and intersection 3 from Vinyl Fantasy II
I have three answers, for three different categories.
Favorite intersections for the areas it leads to: Intersection 3 of Dreadsky Isles is a clear winner for this! Even though I didn't care for its lower half, I loved Avalon Fortress a lot! Shardveil was also very very fun, as was Untapped Underpass. I really just loved it overall!
Favorite intersection that I love for just itself: From what i've seen so far of I3 in Septum Immoriel, it could well take this spot. However, that map isn't out yet so I will pick something else. Really for me its Isle of Dreams from Desolate Dreamscape by KingKaider, the third intersection of that map. (I seem to have a thing for third intersections :P) Its a non-standard intersection, which I always like, plus it just looks really good! Also its areas are cleverly hidden forcing you to actually search the entire intersection to find them. Its just really awesome!
Favorite intersection that I myself have made: Road Unto Ruin, my third intersection in Speluncaphobia, was my favorite to build so far. However I haven't built I4 yet, and i think it might turn out the best if I get it right. I really like the idea I have for it, so yeah I hope I can do the idea justice.

I'll echo Brock and say I3 UT3. Alchemical Stronghold was all-around a fantastic area, and Hypercharged was quite possibly my favorite area of all time. Losing Your Marbles was probably the weakest section, which is saying something because it's still amazing.
And, not to pat myself on the back, but I'm really quite proud of all the areas from Intersections 02 and 03 in Dreadsky Depths, and 04/05 look to be even better.
What did you guys like about hypercharged? Everyone on here seems to say it's there favorite area. I love the area myself, What I like about it is the style of it, It's so different than the typical dungeon.
Also what do you guys think of this area? It's a I1 Area, The inspiration was definitely from the Everforge in Inferno mines (which was my favorite area in that whole map.

PICTURE
It's a nice skeleton, but it feels very gray. Just put some more details there-bizarre statues in the middle of those open areas, little towers popping up, but not giant flat areas.
Community Question:

I'll give three answers like Apollo did:
Favorite intersection by itself: I'd have to think about it a little, but probably Intersection 1 in Insomnia. The overgrowth theme is done so well and compliments the transition area that comes before it, and it has more to do than just traveling between areas. Also, the areas it leads to aren't bad by any means. And yes, Intersection 3 in VFII is great as well, but it's honestly a little too big for my tastes. Just my personal preference.
Favorite intersection for the areas it leads to: Not to be biased towards Ragecraft (well, maybe a little)... but I'd say I3 in Insomnia. Sunken Colony was challenging and infuriating yet very fun, Mushroomania was one of the most creative and enjoyable areas I've ever seen in a CTM, Living Nightmares was extremely well executed (especially Fear of the Dark), and The Invasion and Unholy Arena had, in my opinion, a perfect level of difficulty. All of this made for an amazing final intersection to the map.
Favorite intersection made by me: I'd say either First Brushstrokes or The Colorworks (I1 and I4 respectively) in The Painter. I1 has the "lily-pad-pathways-on-water" concept that I absolutely love, and I4 just turned out really well, which pleased me because it was one of the first area ideas I ever had for the map.
Also what do you guys think of this area? It's a I1 Area, The inspiration was definitely from the Everforge in Inferno mines (which was my favorite area in that whole map.
Honestly the only problem is the lack of depth in a few of the walls. Add some cobble fences or iron bars to even things out, or maybe some stonebrick slabs/steps along the sides too. If you do that you'll have nailed it
EDIT: Well actually the walls could use a little color too, but i would say that's a secondary concern.

My favorite is probably the third intersection of VF II and the fourth intersection of Pantheon (Did a fly through of the whole map after I rage quitted. Was mesmerized by it. )

To be fair, wasn't Losing Your Marbles the area that Amlup completely remade from scratch in about 24 hours? As you said, amazing.

Hi! I'm new to the forum and i just started mapmaking. Hope to have fun with you guys!
Also: Since everyone here is know for his map, I might as well share some informations about mine! My map is called "The Chasm" and.. I just started it. Have some Screenshots!
Hope to see your opinions! Ps: English is not my mother tongue, so forgive me if i make stupid mistakes...
Daaaaaang boi! (or girl, i guess, depending)
You have amazing skills with aesthetics! If you can fine tune your gameplay skills then The Chasm will be awesome
Also I happen to be pretty good myself with Aesthetics, so if you ever need help just send me a PM. Also Drago, Fangride, and ExamineKid are pretty good at aesthetics too and they probably won't mind helping out.
As for the english-is-not-your-native-language thing, don't worry about it. People on this forum are forgiving most of the time (despite what Soup will probably tell you :P) so if your grammer ain't grate then don't worry about it.
So I have a feeling this week's Extra Credits episode, as well as next week's, will be very helpful to us all.
When is Extra Credits *not* relevant/helpful? Especially when you keep in mind that what us mapmakers are really doing is creating our own video games, set within the framework of Minecraft. I do think that next week's EC might be more helpful than this one, though. (hint hint link that one here, too, 'cause I'm too lazy to actually seek it out)
...Hmm. Actually, that's an interesting thought. Let's make it a...
Community Question!
What do you think of the idea that making custom maps for Minecraft like CTM maps is essentially creating our own video games?
Seeing as I started the question, I think that that's really what we're doing. They implement all the design aspects of making a video game, as well as the art/programming sides. We all think carefully about how to introduce the player to what they're doing, how to make areas fun but not frustrating, how to direct them to where they're supposed to go, visual cues... Mapmakers are (generally) careful with block variation, introduce interesting mechanics, etc. And they're not really all that small, either. I'm 24 episodes of my LP into Insomnia, and still only at Intersection 1. These maps can take longer to beat than other, non-Minecraft video games.

Nice to see a new face! A few things: You can embed an image directly into your post. Just click the image button on the menu bar when you're writing a reply, and paste the image URL there. Like so:
Also, it's generally polite to put extremely long posts, multiple videos/pictures, and stuff like that inside of spoilers. Just do <spoiler> your text </spoiler>, and replace the < > with [ ].
Also also, a little critique of the picture itself: It looks a little bland to me; I don't find just stone bricks and leaves particularly aesthetically interesting. But that's just my opinion; you should probably find a second one, 'cause I'm not particularly aesthetically focused myself.

I agree, intersection 3 from VFII
I can't say with Pantheon's I5 without being super biased, so let's go with UT3's I4.
