    Oh, that's right. I thought it had to be one of the two, so I picked the safer option- cheers for the clarification though.

    Make sure the killing room is far enough away from the mob spawner- further than 16 blocks should do it. If not, then report back.

    Barring that, boats by ocean are probably the fastest without the nether, but this takes the cake for land travel.

    Aghh hate seeing this not on the front page :P
    Also, would it be possible(in 1.8) to have a mob that drops a mob spawner which disappears after spawning one round of, say,silverfish? Think the type of the enemy that explodes and releases mini enemies on death. Like a specific flood enemy in Halo, for eg.
    Just seems like a neat concept.

    I'm not sure about the difference sin size between Xbox maps and Pc maps, but if you've explored your whole map, then you're out of luck. (and if it really is a full, pc-sized map, then... O_o )
    No mobs or npcs provide saplings.

    I can't remember many that i've had, but off the top of my head..
    "Excavating" - Diamond shovel
    "Aegis", "BOOM! Headshot", - Bows
    "Massacre", "Unsheathed" "Temnota"(means darkness) - Diamond Swords
    "Pantaloons" - most leg armour
    "Hobnails" - boots
    "Fishbowl" - aqua affinity + respiration diamond helm
    "Mountainbane" - Diamond pick(eff 5)

    They all sound pretty lame now, but eh... goodluck finding a name.

    I would negate /give /summon /setblock(and clone, fill), /xp, /enchant and /teleport
    not very fun, sure, but you'd get time commands, weather commands, talking commands and playsound. And whatever i've forgotten!

    Have you ever just blocked off a creeper crater with a top layer of dirt? If so, and it's nearby, search around for it as there might be mobs inside.

    As for the OP, the difficulty level (barring peaceful ofc) does NOT affect spawning of mobs, however what DOES increase hostile mob spawns for some god forsaken reason is render distance. At 10 and above, mobs spawn much more frequently than 9 -.
    Difficulty - no effect
    Render distance - big effect

    I don't know why this is the case, but... what can I say? :D

    Many Feather Falling IV Protection III boots, enchanted iron swords, but the most memorable is when i spotted a diamond armoured skeleton and it gave me a 75% durability diamond helmet.
