So, you mean to say that an iPod can't use wifi without a 3rd party application? In case you didn't know, multiplayer for MCPE is only a local wireless network (like i stated before) meaning the two devices communicate through the router. Instead, bluetooth makes the devices the router which is slower, and would also eat up cpu power and drain your battery.
If you bought two iPods fresh out of the box, turned them on, and tried to connect them in a 'P2P' connection, the firmware would not allow it.
---
By the way, I fully understand what a LAN connection is. I think you don't understand that, by enabling the devices to communicate on a P2P Network, it would act exactly the same as having a Bluetooth connection except it would be a lot faster.
Yes mojang is pronounced "mo-yang" in sweedish, but for english, its "mo-jang".
Dont iPods have wifi? don't iPhones have wifi? (Hint: the answer is yes.) Wifi is a faster means of communication between devices then bluetooth, which is why multiplayer is currently only over a Local Wireless network (wifi).
First, I must say that I agree that everyone has the right to enunciate Mojang how ever they feel it should sound. I enunciate the word as 'mo-yang' because in the Swedish language, the word 'mojang' translates to 'widget'. Therefore, enunciating it as 'mo-jang' makes it a completely different word (in the Swedish language).
Second, I understand that WiFi is faster than Bluetooth: that is not my point. My point is that, to the best of my knowledge, two iPods can not directly connect to each other through WiFi without the use of a third party application. I believe Bluetooth would be the next best option because it provides a direct 'Peer to Peer' connection without the use of any third party applications.

Notes: I looked back at my previous posts. I am trying to write my replies with the most polite manners as I can. Looking at it from a different perspective, I realized that someone could interpret my replies in a challenging manner. I apologize if you took my replies the wrong way. I assure you I am just trying to help. Also, if you have your own method or if you can disprove something I said please feel free to share with me. I am eager to learn.
first of all jeb is designing the pc minecraft, its Kaplan who's building the pocket edition and second of all i don't think he will be adding bluetooth support becuase if he does eventually add online support, bluetooth would be useless.
Sorry, I do not keep up with the ever-growing amount of employees at Mojang (which, by the way, is pronounced 'mo-yang' if you did not know) anymore. Thank you for notifying me about that. I will keep it in mind.
Anyways, bluetooth would not be useless because everyone does not own an iPhone. What about the iPod users? Not everyone will see this post and what will they do if a wireless access point is not available? Try to bring all the 'iTouch' Devices into the equation.
I can not wait until Jeb adds Bluetooth compatibility to Minecraft PE: Multiplayer.
Edit: My apologies, I should have wrote "I can not wait until Kaplan adds Bluetooth compatibility to Minecraft PE: Multiplayer." Thank you maces006 for pointing that out.
Sinfuliphonerepo is a bad source. It always crashes my iPod, and the wifi hotspot only works for PHONES.
And enabling wifi tethering is what youre trying to do, which does not need a jailbreak.
The WiFi Hotspot does not require internet and it does not require you to have an iPhone. In simple terms: You are using the WiFi as a way of communication between the two devices. It provides a way to transfer the data back and forth. The Hotspot portion of it is just a way of allowing the device to connect directly to the other device rather than the traditional method of having the two devices connect to each other via a router.
Nooo, noo, nooo, the host just needs to turn on intenet tethering or whatever its called in the settings app, most iphones already have it, then connect with another phone, go on mc pe and play.
Super easy
No jailbreak requiered
Thank you for confirming this works. You should consider making your own post showing how to do this using an iPhone. However, my way supports all three devices: iPod, iPad, and iPhone.
If no internet is required, then why do you need a wifi hotspot?
You need a WiFi Hotspot because the devices communicate directly to each other using WiFi. Think of the WiFi as an invisible USB cable connecting your devices together.
Guide: iOS Minecraft PE Multiplayer - No Internet Required
Note: Before I even begin, sadly (to my knowledge) you must have a Jailbroke device to do this. Now that that is out of the way let's continue.
Host:
1.) Open Cydia and add the repository: http:\\sinfuliphonerepo.com\
2.) Search for MyWi 4 Cracked
3.) Install and Open MyWi 4
4.) Click on the tab about a WiFi Hotspot
5.) Turn on the WiFi Hotspot
6.) Open Minecraft PE and select a map
7.) Make sure you have the server visible
Friend:
1.) Go to your WiFi and connect to the host's network
2.) Open Minecraft PE and Go to Multiplayer
3.) Select the host's Server

I was playing Minecraft just fine and dandy when all the sudden... BOOM... I got hungry and went for a snack, saving my world and exiting Minecraft in the process. I come back, with my hunger satisfied, and open Minecraft and it says "New Update" so of course I updated it. But, when it finished sadly, the lovely Mojang splash screen never appeared. What shall I do to fix this problem?
Sincerely, wylesben91

What firmware version do you have and what is the exact Source URL for the repository? I will add it to the list and give you credit.
