My suggestion is beds. They are 1-1.5 blocks high, 3 blocks long and 2 blocks wide. They have posts looking like the ones in fences on each corner and on top of that is a layer of cloth. When you are in a bed you are immobile, armourless, and looking at the sky. (sleeping with armor on is really uncomfortable) Use of a bed grants you 1/2 heart every 2.5 seconds. (Possibly time goes by 2X speed while in a bed)

So here's an overview
Upsides: Free healing, Not too expensive
Downsides: Takes up space, healing takes a long time, no armour while sleeping, immobility until you get out, looking up stops you from seeing that creeper running at you (the last 3 are not a problem if you'r in a house)
