I'm not that annoyed that all this new disagreeable stuff is coming out. What I'm mad about is the fact that our favorite servers will update, and we'll be forced to play this new version, which will be especially infuriating with the new PVP/PVE mechanics. What's next, Zombies with A-Bombs strapped to their backs?!
Oh, I would actually enjoy that type of mob. I've been dying for more challenges.
Eye opener: Where do you think 99% of the features in vanilla minecraft came from? Proven fact, they came from mods. Minecraft wouldn't be anywhere near where it is today without them. Thus the obsession is how fun they make minecraft, I prefer ones that make the game more challenging by throwing in tons more mobs and intense spawn ratios of hoards, as well as storage improvement mods. Some of the magic mods are also quite intriguing. If you really think mods take away from the feel of the game, you should rethink it after actually giving it a try while not using mods that are clearly op and take from the intensity and enjoyment of minecraft by making it way too easy. If, as in many peoples case, you merely said this to start a tense topic of how one person opinion somehow overrules another: welcome to earth, everyone has their own opinion, and even if you can't seem to agree with them, they are not yours to change or rule over. No offense, I've just ran into too many people posting on here trying to make people feel bad about enjoying minecraft in their own respectable ways.
For the matter of how I see mods, they're like the expansion passes in all of these games you see anymore, you know, the map packs, cool weapons and gear you can only unlock or use if you have such and such expansion purchased and installed. Mods are minecraft's version of expansion packs, constantly adding to it and making it so much more fun, while the player instead of being tormented by seeing a great and amazing thing they cant use unless they have a certain expansion, can actually decide what they do and dont want in their experience. No game is made like they used to be, they aren't complete right away, and typically never are. That's just how it's become. I can't say I don't miss the old Sega Dreamcast and Atari 2000, because I do in fact miss those wonderful and compelling consoles and the games they have and had. But time moves forward, bringing us along with it. Games aren't made like they used to, they are made to be added onto continuously, in some cases for the sake of raking in more money (CoD, Halo, Battlefield, WoW, etc) and in some cases it's simply because they couldn't think of everything right away but didnt want to leave us out of the excitement and thrill of the experiences (Minecraft, Terarria, AION, FlyFF, DDO, etc) I mean, there's several games that have free addons and expansions, or at least ways to get them for free, like DDO, AION, and FlyFF mentioned before, they have a credit system players can earn new expansions through extensive play that proves their interest and intent in the game. I think of the mods for minecraft like the expansions for those 3 games, they don't HAVE to be added in order to enjoy it, but adding the right ones will definitely enhance your experience of the game.
As far as the poll goes, I just wanted to say this. It looks like Item Only is winning, and I'm glad for that. The need to actually have an atlas, as opposed to just getting a HUD element, is a big reason why I love this mod over the many minimaps out there. That means that it doesn't completely make maps obsolete (in fact, the one thing I could wish is that a map replaced the compass in the recipe).
For the sake of fairness, though, here's how an Item + GUI system could work. Have it function as a minimap, however, require that it be equipped to a map slot in the inventory, much like how the Baubles mod adds extra equip slots that add special bonuses (perhaps even using Baubles). Thus, the player gets the Atlas only if they have it equipped, and can share information using the actual item.
that's a little like what i was talking about, except mine would be it just being somewhere in the inventory to have the gui available, and otherwise being able to have the gui turned off and have it be treated like the vanilla map with a screen interface if the person uses it in their inventory.
Perhaps go the EnderIO route with the json files (especially the biome allocations file).
It has 2 jsons. One of defaults which the mod will update as required, and then a user overrides file, which the mod never touches.
It loads the defaults, then loads the overrides.
Seems a simple, elegant solution.
Advanced Generators does that as well, but I'm with you on the EnderIO route more than AG because AG is too buggy to use overrides, even the creator of the mods example template fails to work XD whereas EnderIO actually has a smoother code and proper configuration and overrides setup
I noticed that if you have Thaumcraft alongside Botania, a badly written page titled "Wrap" appears. And then I laughed because it was poking fun at Azanor.

Conversion to and from RF are already in the mod. Please refer to the blocks, as I'm sure you will figure it out.
