it looks like you don't have your project configured properly. are you doing this via command line or are you using an environment of some sort? Try eclipse.
I'm actually using eclipse for editing purposes, but I didn't think that was needed to compile a .java file.
How would I go about setting up a project from a pre-existing Jar file?
Well, I'm not entirely sure how. Here's the error(s) I'm having the most trouble with, and like I said I know little about java.
myfile.java:3: package org.bukkit does not exist
import org.bukkit.ChatColor;
^
myfile.java:4: package org.bukkit does not exist
import org.bukkit.Location;
^
myfile.java:5: package org.bukkit.block does not exist
import org.bukkit.block.Block;
If it's a process that's too long to give a semi-simple solution to, then that's fine I can just call it quits for now and come back later but it looks like it wouldn't be too tough to fix, I just don't really know where to start. (and yes it is a plugin for craftbukkit.)
First of all I'm an epic noob when it comes to programming and only dabble slightly in java.
Ok so here's the story, I have a .Jar file that contains all the right .class files, each with a corresponding .java file. What I need to do is edit one of those class files and then replant it in the rest of the .jar file.
The way I've been TRYING to do this is by taking the .java file that corresponds with the class file I would like to change, and I make my changes to the .java file but here's where I get stuck, I can't seem to figure out how to make the .java file a .class file. I've tried going through the command prompt and selecting the correct directory then typing "javac myfile" but that doesnt seem to work, it gives me roughly 50 errors stating that "symbols" cannot be found and other such nonsense.
I guess my overall question is how to I edit the code in a .jar file?
omg check this out this guy has like 200 tutorials on java from the very basics to freaking making games! He starts with how to say hello world so litterally very beginging. Just type in thenewboston on youtube. That's his channel.
Thanks! I need as many resources as I can get to be sure I get a full understanding of the basics
You are all awesome, thanks so much for being friendly to a noob such as myself :3
I wanted to spend as little money as possible but perhaps a book would be useful. I've been finding online tutorials to read, but most of them don't like to explain the basics. I'll see if my brother has anything I can read (he's a 4th year comp science major so he probably has some old text books) not that that's really relevant...
Well I wasn't planning to do much at all with any sort of graphics or anything, I'd be in over my head with that, but making something like tic tac toe sounds like it would be just enough challenge for me right now, seeing as how I still have to google 95% of the code I use.
Also if anyone has any examples of anything like the above, and you're willing to share the code for learning purposes please do post here so that the rest of us could take a peak at how some things are done in order to get a good idea how to make our own projects :3
There is a mod (not Beta OR modloader compat. yet) that puts heart containers (like the ones in LOZ) into dungeon chests, that adds an extra heart to your total life, up to twenty full hearts. The modder is trying to make his mod work with battle towers so that the boss will drop a heart container. You should try it out once he finishes it. :smile.gif:
Wowee, I'm gunna have to keep an eye out for that one. It'd be sweet if you only started with 3 hearts when you make a new world :3

Good idea. The dungeons in minecraft are pretty boring, and some sort of hard to get armor/weapons would add an extra thing to look forward to once you have experienced most of the content in the game.
Exactly my thoughts! I just hope that someone would be up to the task (which is no doubt quite a project to take on)
Ok so I'm starting to get into java, I know little about it so far but I've devoted at least an hour or so a day to figuring things out. I'd just like some suggestions for a few -very- basic programs to make. I'm literally the biggest noob on this forum when it comes to programming (As I am a physics/math major, not computer science like the rest of you fellows). That said I'm halfway decent with mathematical concepts (lol?) and other such nonsense! but anyhow, back on topic if you have some good suggestions or could come up with something easy to make I would greatly appreciate it!
Not to say that anythings wrong with the vanilla music in minecraft, but it's kinda scarce and mostly silent. not to mention there's only a few different tracks. I was first off wondering if anyone has seen a mod that adds more adventure like music, because I've done a small amount of looking around but to no avail. If no one has really made such a mod, anyone up to it?
Man it's your ram, you can run crisis all you want, too bad it's out dated by now... not to mention that crisis is mostly in the graphics card and processor.
