(FOHL-ee-ayth or fohl-I-ath)
These jungle-lurking plant monsters want nothing more than to eat anything that moves! They may seem like ordinary ferns, but they'll emerge if you come close. You can't get close enough to strike them, so find some other way of killing them! They drop foliaath seeds.
To grow a foliaath, obtain a seed and plant it by right clicking on grass or dirt. Every half-day for two days, feed the baby foliaath by tossing it a meat item. Then, it will emerge as a fully grown foliaath. Be careful: grown foliaaths aren't tamed and will still attack you!
(FER-us RAWT-nawt)
Lost underground many years ago, these heavily armored knights are not men nor are they statues. Are they guarding something? They have forgotten what. Are they waiting for something? They have forgotten when. Are they mourning someone? They have forgotten whom. All they know is to slay those who approach their chambers. There is only one way to damage a Ferrous Wroughtnaut; its weakness is for you to discover.
Only the bravest of adventurers would dare to challenge a Ferrous Wroughtnaut. Upon defeat, the Wroughtnaut will drop its Wrought Helm and its Axe of a Thousand Metals for the victor. Right clicking with the axe attacks in a large arc, and shift-right clicking will create a shockwave that brings targets closer to you. Neither tool can break.
(ba-ra-KO-ah)
Native to the savanna, the Barakoa tribesmen travel in small hunting packs. They are one with the masks on their heads, which cannot be removed. Some use bones as clubs as weapons while others use poisoned blowdarts. Each hunting pack is led by a Barakoana elite, wielding a traditional spear and shield. The Barakoa make traversing the savanna quite dangerous, as they can surround their prey quickly and put up a good chase.
When defeated, the Barakoa will sometimes drop their masks as items that the player can wear. Each mask bestows a different, small buff.
Barakoa can also be found in villages scattered across the savanna plain.
Barako, the Sun Chief
(BA-rah-koh)
Barako is the chief of the Barakoa tribe, residing in a stationary seat upon a throne in Barakoa villages. He draws his power from the sun, calling forth sunstrikes, solar flares, and massive solar beams. He can also create Barakoa followers from masks to defend him during combat. As such, his masked children revere him as a god. Unequipped travelers should keep their distance from his villages, lest they be smitten by his heliomancy.
Those strong enough to face and defeat him, however, are rewarded with his mask: the Sol Visage. This mask allows its wearers to breathe life into masks to create Barakoa followers. Unfortunately, the mask does not bestow heliomancy upon its bearer; this power is innately carried by Barako, and thus dies with him. Perhaps there is another way...?
Frostmaw
(FROST-mah)
Frostmaws are dangerous beasts found rarely in snowy areas. Their massive size, impressive speed, and powerful ice breath make them near-impossible opponents. If, on your travels, you encounter one sleeping in your path, it's likely best to take a different route and let it lay. The beast guards a precious ice crystal that can unleash pure winter energy when wielded.
Grottol
(GRAH-tohl)
These adorable crystal crustaceans live deep underground in caves and ravines. Sometimes called “living ore,” Grottols are prized as a rare source of diamonds. But only the quickest of adventurers can manage to catch them before they burrow away; grottols are very fast and surprisingly clever, even using minecarts to escape pursuers. Keep in mind that only iron or stronger pickaxes can penetrate their diamond shells.
Lantern
(LAN-turn)
Lanterns dot the canopy of roofed forests, glowing like jellyfish. Some cultures believe that these creatures contain the souls of the recently deceased. Others wish on them like stars. Adventurers, however, know that the luminous jelly inside lanterns is a great light snack that will briefly illuminate the darkest of nights.
Naga
(NAH-guh)
Coastal cliffs are dangerous places. Adventurers tell of winged serpents called nagas with impressive speed and menacing acid venom. Though these drakes are powerful, a well-placed arrow can knock a naga right out of the sky; time your shots to hit when the naga is preparing an attack.
Naga acid is deadly, but can actually be used to neutralize other poisons. The fangs they drop upon death can be used to brew poison antidotes and preventatives.

Mobs:
Phoben - Fear spirit that spawns in roofed forests. Wields fear magic, a lantern, and a long, darkness-infused blade called Ej. Fighting the phoben will involve carefully but quickly deciding when to strike and when to block.
The Sculptor - A simian guru that can be found meditating on mountaintops. He will challenge players to complete obstacle courses made of floating rocks. Those who pass this test are granted the ability to wield powerful earth magic.
Forest Dryad - Will grant players her magic pan flute in exchange for the Phoben's lantern as thanks for defending the forest.
Stalkers - Rival tribe of the Barakoa. Jungle pack hunters that lurk in the canopy before leaping down on their prey. Their simian features, ornamented headdresses, long claws, and glowing red eyes strike fear into their prey.
Nimbus Drakes - Flying serpents with clouds billowing from its head and wings. The clouds turn grey before the drake unleashes its lightning attacks. It circles an egg in a nest on the top of its mountain, which can be claimed and hatched by the player who defeats the mother.
The Winter Order - A league of cryomancers residing in a frozen citadel.
Considering:
Large, scary insects in swamps, maybe large, scary frog-things to go with them
Anglerfish-like deep sea monster
Ents that can be created from trees using an item.
Golems that can be created from Geomancy boulders.
Snake Charmer - Humanoid desert boss that spawns in a temple structure. He can summon snake spirits by playing his flute, and can transform into a moving painting on the wall to dodge attacks and move across the room.
Just a plain dragon. I'd like to try my hand at this timeless monster concept.
I'd like to add at least one mob for each of Minecraft's environments, and I do like suggestions! BUT I'm very picky about what I work on. Only suggest your mob if you can imagine players thinking, "I can't believe I ever played Minecraft without this in my game!". I will not add monsters from existing franchises or mythologies, or just giant versions of real animals. No griefing or one-hit-kill moves.

Mowzie, you do not disappoint! I decided to build a throne for Barako and see what he had in store for me. I swear I haven't had so much fun in minecraft in a long time.

Hello, and welcome to the Severed Expanse Mod concept thread. The Severed Expanse Mod is merely an idea at the moment, but hopefully someday will become a fully fledged mod.
The goal of this mod is to cover the world of minecraftia in a veil of darkness, and give you, the hero, a new goal: to end the darkness and rebirth the good old minecraft we all know and love. Here are some scribblings I've written down myself; I recommend reading through them, just to get a sort of baseline idea for what I'm going for here:
The Severed Expanse Mod Concept
goal: To cover the world of minecraft in a veil of darkness (mobs, new mechanics, etc) and add a new dimension.
Immediate ideas: Ravenmocker (Stalks a player marked somehow, can only be seen by the marked player, invisible to other players
but can still be harmed by them;
takes the form of a raven when traveling and as a tall hunched-over enderman wearing a dark red hooded robe when not,
disappears after killing the marked player);
an eclipse; the mare and alp (have a chance of spawning at the foot of your bed overnight, you will have a
terrifying vision in your sleep before you wake up, then they will attack);
machine elves (multidimensional faceless beings,
player must be stimulated in order for them to spawn, might share secrets with the player); doll, haunted doll, possessed doll, demonic doll
and angelic doll; salts (can be made into a complecated art, in order to protect from spirits and more); Tikbalang
(a tall, muscular man with the head of a horse, and black eyes. Neutral, but constantly stare at the player when not attacking);
cockatrice; hallow wisps; shadow people; the plague, and plague masks; doppelgangars (look like the player, have the same weapon
and armor as the targeted player, hostile); The Sea Reaper (a massive viperfish);
regularly occurring natural diasters (earthquake, fire rain, pure darkness, lycanthropy infection, etc. every 7 days. starts at midnight, ends at midnight the next day);
Starfire Launcher; buckethead zombie(a zombie with a bucket on its head, acts as protection, otherwise nothing else. can get the bucket from the zombie as a rare drop; adds massive defense, but has a 10% chance of falling off when being hit);
zodiac monster bosses, and corresponding items
(Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cave Spider Pet:
There's a very rare chance of finding a spider egg next to a cave spider spawner, which would be
placed in a dungeon very similar to a default minecraft dungeon.
If you pick up the egg, put it next to a light source, it will hatch and if you are the immediate player in it's vicinity,
it will follow you. If you are not, then it will just attack you and poison you if you approach it. It can walk
through webs, climb any wall, and poison anything you attack. Has between 10 and 12 health as a baby,
with 5 attack damage and poison, then has a baseline of 20 health as an adult, with a baseline of 7 attack damage
and poison. Can be fed up to 7 potions of poison to increase health by 4 and attack by 2.
This can only be done when it is fully grown. Growth process takes between 1 to 3 minecraft days at random.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Zodiac Bosses:
Must be summoned using a zodiac rune altar, which is built by building 4 three block tall pillars made of coal blocks in a square,
having a 4 block space in between every two. In the center of the four pillars, dig down one block and place a redstone block.
Place a lapis block on top of each pillar, then place a chest on the redstone block in the middle. When ready to spawn a Zodiac boss,
you will have to place certain items in the chest. Once all required items are in the chest, shift right-click on it with an enchanted book
with smite 1. The chest will be struck by lighting and disappear, with the specific boss taking its place.
Aries
Appearance: 3 block tall, ash colored humanoid, with massive horns that protrude from its head and curve backwards. Hooved feet.
Items to spawn: 1 Golden apple (not enchanted), 1 wither skeleton skull, 32 blaze powder, 1 ghast tear, 1 diamond sword, 1 flint, 1 raw pork, 2 bones.
Abilities and AI: Does 15 base attack damage, is very fast. When within 4 blocks of it, you will catch fire, as well as any wood or leaves;
water will also evaporate and disappear. Obsidian will melt into lava, and random lava source blocks will occasionally spawn around him.
It cannot become nighttime while Aries is spawned, as he harnesses the power of the sun;
if he is spawned at night, it will turn to day. Around 450 health, and can take no more than 30 damage per hit. Being in lava will slowly
regenerate his health, at roughly 4 health per second. Ores in your inventory will instantly smelt when within 8 blocks of him, but some
armor and weapons made of metals and/or gold have a low chance of melting within your inventory as well; this will cause you to take lava damage
for 1 second, and you will lose that item. When Aries is below 50 health, it will begin to rain fire, and he will start regenerating
2 health per second. He cannot be spawned during an eclipse. It will also stop raining when he is spawned. A secondary attack is that
he will spawn a 2 by 2 gravel cube over your head in order to suffocate you. Wherever he walks,
the blocks underneath his feet turn into netherrack. Upon death, drops the blade of incendium, a fire crystal, 2 horns of aries, and
a zodiac rune.
Blade of incendium: does 15 attack damage, and naturally has fire aspect built in. Upon holding right click for a short time,
you will be surrounded in a visible firey aura. This aura allows you to become immune to fire and lava, and anyone within 3 blocks of you will
catch fire. Anyone or anything that hits you will take lava damage for each hit. However, there is a very small chance one of your metal items
(if any) in your inventory will melt. This aura lasts for 120 seconds, and has a 60-second cooldown.
Using the aura ability costs 10 durability to use. The sword has 2000 durability, and can be repaired using blaze rods.

Bees and honeycomb:
You can find beehives commonly in most types of forest biomes, attached to the higher branches of trees. It can't be quickly harvested since there
is no tool specifically for mining beehives. It takes about 7 seconds to break, and once you begin to break it, you will be swarmed by small amounts
of bees. Around 2 or 3 will be spawned every 2 seconds as the hive is in the process of being broken. These bees are very small,
and hard to hit, but only have 3 health apiece. They do half of a heart of armor-piercing damage per hit, and have a 25% chance of
poisoning you for 5 seconds. In large numbers, they can be pretty dangerous. Upon breaking a beehive, it will drop between
1 and 4 pieces of honeycomb, but will also spawn between 15 and 30 bees. Unless you have potions or AOE damage capabilities,
at this point it would be the best idea to run. Honeycomb can be placed in a crafting table with a glass bottle to get a bottle of honey, which
can be used in quite a few recipes, and can also be a substitute for vanilla minecraft sugar.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wolfman Sickness:
A natural disaster where the moon turns full, and all villagers have a 40% chance to turn into a lycan. All wild wolves also have a 75% chance to
turn into a lycan. This lasts for 12 hours, from dusk until early dawn.
Lycans: Basically werewolves. Have 100 health and are very fast; have a block step ability, which allows you to step over one block without jumping.
lycanthropy is not fully infectious, as in it isn't possible for you to become a lycan; however, when bitten by a lycan, there is a low chance that
you may develop lupian syndrome. Lupian syndrome is not a status effect, but something that latches onto you, randomly giving you status effects
which can be either good or bad. Not only that, but on occasion you may start thinking you are turning into a wolf, dropping the item you are
holding because you think you are unable to hold it, twitching accidentally (basically left clicking without actually doing anything, at random),
or spontaniously eating massive amounts (up to half a stack) of food in your inventory, to the point of nausea and slowness
(if having eaten more than 16 food at once). You can tell when someone has lupian syndrome by their slightly hunched-over appearance,
which is barely noticeable. The only way to cure lupian syndrome is to have the victim eat a single buckwheat honey biscuit.
Easter egg: Prometheus
Voteus' Charm: To make a dorment Voteus' charm, put string, an emerald, 3 different flowers, and a dawn daisy petal in a crafting table.
To awaken it, put it in a crafting table with a condensed world essence. Voteus' Charm is a necklace that will fit into the baubles necklace slot.
When wearing, a number bar will appear on the left side of your screen. It will start at 0. Whenever you walk over any tall grass, flowers, or lily
pads (hopefully could be compatable with other mods), the number will go up by one, and the vegetation will break. When the number reaches 128
(full), you will gain resistance 1 for 5 minutes, and the number bar will return to zero. This ability can stack, and with every full bar you get,
the more powerful resistance you get. For example, if you fill up the bar 3 times, then you will have resistance 3 for 5 minutes.
Condensed world essence: WIP
Dawn daisies: One-block white petaled flowers with blood-red centers. At at all times of day and night except for times 0 to 700, these flowers
will be closed, with only the stalks visible. In this stage, nothing can be gained from these flowers other than a low chance of a seed dropping.
In between 0 and 700, however, the flower will open and face toward the rising sun. In this stage it has a high chance of dropping it's seeds,
blaze powder, and and 1 to 2 of it's petals.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Flesh Host Mimic:
the flesh host mimic spawns underground at brighter light levels, and in villages. From a distance it looks like a regular villager
of any profession, but when a player approaches, its head splits open, revealing a fleshy maw riddled with serrated teeth, and it's nose
becomes a lure-like tongue (which could glow?). Also, 6 insect like legs erupt from under the crossed arms of the "villager". In villager form,
zombies and golems behave normally to it, but in mimic form, zombies ignore it, and golems are hostile towards it. If it kills a villager, the
villager respawns as a new flesh host mimic. I don't know what it would drop, but in villager form it sounds like a villager, but in mimic form
it would make a screaming/slurpy noise, like something in pain slathered in jelly. Mimic form, with the spidery legs, is 3(or 4) blocks tall.

Sea pup: WIP (sea lion-like reptilian creature?)
The Sea Reaper: WIP (A massive viperfish sort of thing, miniboss)
Fishers: The dark and mysterious inhabitants of the marsh forest biome. A tall, lanky creature with a bipedal humanoid build (maybe 4 to 5 blocks tall). skinny, but very hardy and strong. It has smooth, black, scaly skin, or some kind of dark shade you couldn't see from a distance. It's face is a mixture of that of an alligator and a jackal, with icy blue eyes that freeze their prey to the spot when their eyes meet (possibly get slowness 2 but only when you look at it's face?). It has some kind of spiky black hair sticking straight out behind it's head. It wears very light garments, only something to cover it's groin. It also carries a sort of cane with a grappling device on the end, which it uses to hunt and catch fish.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pure darkness Event: One of the events that can occur on every seventh minecraft day. The sun is gone, and the player cannot see more than a few blocks in front of them, not even with brightness set to bright. Monster take the opportunity to come out in droves (mob cap raised to 125, and hostile mobs spawn more frequently) A remedy for the darkness is to simply make a potion of night vision.
Feel free to post any ideas you would like, as long as you think they would go well with this mod. Someday all of our combined ideas will be put together to make one of the most amazing mods in history!
It's fine m8.
I don't know about you, but I'm thinking around 75 to 100 health. I'm not sure if this fits with the idea of Barako you have in your mind though, so I'll just be patient and wait for the next update.
1
Maybe in order to make this more usable for surveillance, a shadow walking player should be able to fit underneath doors and through trapdoors since they can't interact with them (pretty much just phase through them like they don't exist)
Happy Halloween Mowzie, and everyone else! (If noone's said it already)
To go with the nether slug thing Galacticstuff posted, I recommend adding a nether snail mob. This isn't going to be some generic snail though, so just hear me out.
The Black Devil Snail is a one-block high and 1-block wide black snail with dark-red and orange glowing stripes covering it, and a purely black shell resembling obsidian. It has around 24 health. While slowly hauling itself over the netherrack (and more commonly [like 20% increase of spawn rate] the soul sand fields) that make up its home, it produces a gaseous miasma of volcanic smoke. If walked through, the player will receive slowness 2 and mining fatigue 2 for a few seconds. These slugs will cling to walls and ceilings (if possible to code, unless it is too difficult) and when attacked will quickly retreat into their shells. However, though these slugs may appear somewhat boring, they have a very unique way of defending themselves. As they are at birth imbued with netheric energy, they have some mystical qualities about them. Sharp objects will be able to partially penetrate their shells ( swords and axes do 80% damage less than specified when a snail has retreated into its shell, and other tools do 0 damage except for a pickaxe, which will do 1/2 its specified damage. Arrows do 1/3 specified damage). Therefore it needed a way of quickly escaping dangerous situations. Upon taking damage while in its shell, the snail will cause a miniscule explosion underneath itself, sending it a few blocks into the air, spinning like a coin. It then generates a 1-block portal made of netheric energy underneath it, which it then falls into. It will then pop up in another area within 32 blocks. In place of the portal it fell into, a lava source block will appear. Though it may take some strategy in order to kill them, they would drop something useful and/or interesting such as a shard of their shell or some kind of portal dust.
I seriously support this idea :3
He'll be adding tribesmen in savanna biomes, and possibly the stalker mob to rival them. From there, who knows? I would think (hope) it would be the frostmaw. If you don't know what any of this is just check the first page
