Some ideas:

1. They should be attracted to Sugar. Lets say you have sugar, if you were to throw/drop it, any Myrmex close to it would swarm it. The amount of time they're distracted would be set by how many are swarming, with one Myrmex it would be distracted for maybe 10 seconds, with every Myrmex decreasing 2 seconds of that time. A cake can be placed to distract them for even long.

2. They should be absolutely horrible at swimming.

3. I think the things I dislike about the model is that the legs look too human. I think they should have a joint in them.

4. I also think they should not go too far away from their hive, and also should war with other hives if they're too close.

EDIT: Oh, and what would they drop?

Hmmm. A joint would help the legs. Warring with other hives would be great, but how would you identify each hive. Maybe each would have a distinctive color on a certain part of their body or clothing?

Also, since they craft things, would their hives have torches (or some other light source) in them?

great model as usual. I like the idea of the magmen taming salamanders. A magman riding a salamander would be even better (maybe they would have a chance of spawning similar to that of a skeleton riding a spider.

I like the look of these things and think potential additions to the nether are always much needed.

Criticisms

The texture doesn't really fit quite as well as it could with the present Lava texture. I think it would be better if it were tied in more.

I think the texture fits because of it's contrast with the lava texture. A mob that walks around is obviously more solid than lava itself. I think the texture shows a slightly more hardened magma than that of the lava lakes of the nether/overworld.

Firehazurd- You've done a couple of more advanced creatures recently (as in intelligent, able to wield tools). Any thoughts on making one that spawns/lives in the ocean? encountering a group of semi-intelligent, possibly amphibious creatures that live in the ocean would be great. Just pointing that out, since you've done this for the nether (magmen) caves (myrmex) and forests (grove sprites).
List tags are malformed.

You realize there's four of them, right? I'm not saying that to make you seem stupid or something, I genuinely missed this on first glance. It has an abdomen with four legs.

Yes, yes, but their legs are very thick and spaced close together, and their abdomen is more like a slightly large butt than a protruding lump.

Look at this picture of an ant; the Myrmex's abdomens should be at least 50% bigger.

And they should at least have cool jaws like this.

I actually like the graphic's proportions the way they are. If the abdomen were much larger, the creature would appear more like a centaur (as in, abdomen would seem like most of body). I think the idea is that the Myrmex is like an ant, but walks upright. A larger abdomen would make it less upright and more..... however it is that centaurs walk. Maybe the legs should just be thinner... Also about the jaws, i do agree that the texture on the front of the head is a bit bland. If not a jaw, maybe just an improved texture should be added to the front of the head. (The rest of the model, of course, is great, as usual)

Good Ideas generally

A few thoughts:

-medusa was a specific individual. Since it seems as if more than one of this mob could able to spawn at a time, i recommend a name change to gorgon. there were multiple gorgons (3) of which medusa was one of.

The minotaur is also an individual, but I am willing to overlook that.

and for hades instead of the key have him drop his cap of invisibility which makes u less noticable to mobs and if enchanted completly invisible to mobs unless you attack then

True. Cap/Helmet of invisibility is accurate.

Golden Apple: The wikipedia article will tell you all you need to know. All I'm saying is, this mod could provide an applicable use for them.

Are you making graphics for any of he objects/mobs yet? if so, will be be allowed to see them before release of the mod?

steel tools and armour would probably be used. Possibly same as iron, but more durable. Again, steel has been used in countless threads. The purpose of this thread is to think of NEW uses for these materials.

About the limestone:
I also thought of its relation to lime.
Using only lime, clay, sand, gravel, and water, you could make concrete in a scientifically accurate way.
Lime is also a major ingredient in whitewash.
I explain lime and it's uses further in my thread-

posted a message on Limestone!
Glad to see someone else thought of this.
I also have a thread including limestone, lime, and concrete, although my recipes are a bit more accurate to real life, using lime+clay=cement, and cement+gravel+sand+water=concrete.
My thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=145879,
May i also point out that lime, along with chalk, is a major ingredient in whitewash?

About the limestone: I agree that it would be a good addition, and with it's relation to marble.
As I suggest in my thread, One very practical use for it would be to make the material lime, which would be crafted with clay to form cement. Cement would be crafted with gravel, sand, and water to form Concrete, which would be a very useful building material. This is all scientifically accurate. If chalk was implemented, lime could also be mixed with this to form whitewash. I go into more detail about these materials in my thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=145879

Just another very practical use for limestone.

Were this to come to pass, limestone could also be tossed into the furnace to make marble, as marble in reality is metamorphosed limestone. Sorry if marble isn't a particularly "useful" material, but lots of people want to see it be added.

Marble would be very useful, as a building material. Maybe not in crafting recipes, but as i building material, i agree that marble would be a great addition to the game. The only reason I hadn't mentioned it was because the idea of "furnacing" limestone into other rocks has been described this way in other threads.

EDIT: Because lime could be turned into other materials using a furnace however, i propose i different way to make lime to cooperate with these ideas.

[] [] []
[] :White: []
[] :Lava: [] = bucket of lime

where :White: is limestone, and :Lava: is a bucket of lava.

not a furnace, but close. this solves the problem of containing lime in containers as well.
Thank you for pointing this out.

I'm just going to point something out:

I know there has been talk about turning limestone into other types of stone using a furnace.

The material lime could be obtained from limestone in this way as well. This is scientifically accurate.
Lime would be extremely useful, because it could be crafted with clay to get cement, and then the cement could be crafted with gravel sand and a water to get a concrete. Lime could also be crafted with chalk if chalk was implemented to get whitewash. I explain this in further detail in my thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=145879

This would be most scientifically accurate if done using a furnace. Since there has already been talk of using a furnace to turn limestone into other materials however, i propose the following crafting recipe for lime, using a crafting bench:
[] [] []
[] :White: []
[] :Lava: []

where :White: is limestone, and :Lava: is a bucket of lava. this way, you could obtain a bucket of lime.

I am just pointing out that if limestone was implemented, it would be a waste not to implement lime as well, since it would be such a useful material.

posted a message on Useful new materials
Before reading, note that all ideas here should scientifically accurate. I know some of the materials listed have been suggested elsewhere. This thread elaborates on their USES.
Please only suggest USEFUL materials. I don't want to see a list of minerals you pulled off wikipedia. Only suggest the materials you can think of practical uses for.

My ideas so far (at least the ones i've written down. this list will GROW):

Possible useful rock types:

chalk- for whitewash. I'd appreciate it if anyone posted any other ideas for uses for chalk (or anything else), but be fairly accurate to real life recipes that correspond.

limestone- you would realistically heat this on a furnace to get the material lime. However, since the use of turning limestone into other types of rock like marble using a furnace has bee suggested in other threads, I propose a crafting recipe for a bucket of lime:

[] [] []
[] :White: []
[] :Lava: []

:White: = limestone
:Lava: = bucket of lava

Craft a bucket of lime with clay to get a bucket of cement. Craft cement with gravel, sand, and a bucket of water to get concrete. I'm not sure if concrete shout be contained in a bucket, or just be a block immediately... If a bucket was used, then recollecting a block of "hardened" (placed) concrete would have to give a block (cant recollect a block into a bucket!), so maybe using only blocks would be simpler. If this was the case, the the buckets of cement/water would remain in the crafting grid after crafting, and only the contents would be removed, like how milk buckets work when crafting cake. The recipe for concrete would probably make at least 8 blocks, since the process has so many steps. Another way to deal with this would be that, if concrete was in a bucket, 1 bucket could be used to place multiple concrete blocks (not infinite of course, no more than 16) Still not sure about the bucket vs. block issue. Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Also, if lime was crafted with chalk, you could get whitewash, which would function as blank painting that could be placed over a surface. you would craft a bucket of whitewash like this:
[] [] []
[] :White: []
[] :Lime: []

:Lime: = bucket of lime
:White: = chalk

ALLOYS (if you dont know what it means, look it up)

These would require a furnace with 2 slots and a variety of new metals such as tin, copper, zinc, silver,
Smelting 2 metals together would produce multiple (2-4?) of the new metal. ask you: should you have to smelt 2 ingots together, or is ore fine?

bronze: tin+copper. less durable than iron, but probably easier to produce. tin and copper would have to be fairly common, and 1 tin and 1 copper would produce at least 4 bronze- could be used for cannonballs (historically accurate). Cannonballs would be like snowballs, but would do more damage when they hit something. This would be a good item to put in dispensers. The real question is: can you make explosive cannonballs if you craft bronze with sulfur? A note block placed on a brass block would sound like a bell. (Bronze is commonly used for bells)

brass: zinc+copper- place a note block on brass block make it sound like a brass instrument. Other ideas?

steel: iron+coal (coal contains carbon). more durable than iron, but same in most other ways. Not sure about stainless steel: it would make a very decorative shiny block, but would require chromium, an element i fear is too obscure for minecraft.

Other useful alloys, stones, or materials? Other uses for the alloys, stones, or metals listed? General feedback?

chalk- obviously useful,
limestone- heat on furnace to get the material lime. craft lime with clay to get cement. craft cement with gravel, sand, and a bucket of water to get a bucket of concrete.
pumice- for boats (it can float)

bronze: tin+copper less durable than- could be used for cannons/cannonballs (historically accurate), or for music blocks that sound like bells

brass: zinc+copper- maybe used to make music blocks that sound like brass instruments?

steel: iron+coal (contains carbon) more durable than iron, same basic function
etc.

great concept. very origional and useful. This would add to the game.

I think that it should actually be impossible for 2 to exist at the same time. This way, they could be slightly less rare. An average player who plays a lot might find one in the time it takes them to find 50 dungeons, just as an example of how rare they might be. Still extremely rare, but not rare enough that they are not unheard of over a very long period of time, or between multiple players. If inly one could spawn at a time, they could be this rare or less, without having to worry about a player finding 2 at once.

Furthermore, maybe it should not spawn even while the dragonclaw item is inexistance. Players would not be able to obtain more than 1 of the claw at once this way. Of course, it could be argued that if you have the oppurtunity to find 2 dragons and you do, you deserve the reward of both claws. This is just my opinion.

Also, I think the dragons should spawn only in unexplored areas. Possibly they could become more common as the game progresses, for example, in relation to how many dungeons the player has found, or something like that.
