If your motherboard supports it (which it does), you can find used Q6600s fairly cheap which would basically double your CPU performance. You could also even use a newer Q8200 or Q9400. As for GPU, that would depend on what your power supply could support. Does it have a 6-Pin power connector? Also what is your budget?
The main nice thing about having heat spreaders is that you can hold the sticks by the heat spreader instead of the edges without worrying about touching the circuitry.
Of course Victor is wrong. Victor was proved wrong hundreds of years ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavendish_experiment This is the experiment that determined the force of gravity that everyone learns in their first highschool physics class. Needless to say, there were no magnets involved. Really basic stuff guys....
Also I had a thought the other day- Would it be possible to add presets to the Optifine installer? For example, upon install there are several buttons instead of just [Install]. One will set everything to the minimum (max fps), low, medium, high, or Ultra (max quality) settings so that people who don't know what to change can use it more easily. Or so people who install it on a lot of computers don't have to go through 20 settings every single time they install... I suppose this could also work from the in-game menu too.
Long time Optifine fan just wanted to say a big thank you that you are still updating Optifine regularly!
I especially dig the graphic tweaks like AA and AF so thanks that you keep incorporating them.
Is there any chance that you add stereoscopic 3d side by side rendering? Currently there is no optimal solution for sbs3d. Would be very cool for people with 3D monitors or similiar. I'm using a DIY Rift based on Google Cardboard and Trinus Gyre App for streaming to my smartphone/head tracking and it's been an awesome experience so far. Now I would like to play Minecraft in 3D as well.
I have the same setup. Curious, how did you manage the headstrap situation? I stapled a headlamp strap to mine and tried to add face cushions... but it has worked out less than optimally. My phone also has the USB port along the edge so I cant use it with Trinus Gyre in USB mode and Cardboard at the same time without cutting a hole in the headset.
Back on topic, SBS3D would be a nice feature for optifine but it would also probably be better as a stand alone mod. MinecRift exists but sadly is stuck on 1.6.2.
The days of good coding are long behind us. I was reading an article the other day about how they managed to squeeze amazing graphics out of the tiniest memory and cpu envelopes of old consoles http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/08/same-box-better-graphics-improving-performance-within-console-generations/ It's a really interesting read. Solaris on the Atari 2600 was particularly impressive. 128 bytes of ram and it manages pseudo 3D graphics and gradient textures.... crazy.
I've noticed minecraft getting slower and slower over the past 4 years. It all started with the internal server change in 1.3 which halved FPS for everyone and it definitely hasn't improved since then. 1.8 has been awful. I know Java was a manageable way of coding it back when the game was more simple, but now its like trying to fit a pig in a wedding dress. Oh well, we're stuck with it so I hope someone can figure it out.
Unless the server is generating new chunks a lot, the CPU isn't nearly as important as your internet upload speed for hosting. But I think the server is still single threaded so higher clock speed would be more important than core count. Of course thats only between brands because a lower clocked Intel will handily beat a faster clocked AMD cpu still.
I wouldn't ever dare mount my PC on a wall shelf, I just wouldn't be able to come to terms with the potential damage it'd do to everything if it fell
Also, dem viewing angles. I hope those monitors are IPS haha, you definitely need a bigger desk!
The shelf is anchored with screws right into the studs like a cabinet. Its super solid.
And yeah, the super wide FOV setup makes these monitors pretty useless for gaming but its nice to have the extra screen real estate for other things. Hopefully I can get a bigger desk sometime soon ;(
It's a bit shorter than my desk, by about maybe 5 inches. I don't actually keep it on or above my desk, and instead have it sitting to the right of my desk.

November 8th I just hope they don't screw it up with more completely unnecessary fanservice.

Very nice. Chunks load super fast now.

I mean I still clearly have a desk space problem but at least it's not because of that...

Spice&Wolf... nice.
