Not a G-Sync monitor, but my 120Hz monitor is amazing. Everything you do is smoother. Once you switch from 60Hz, you'll never go back.

Sure, but you have to have a GPU that can push 120FPS. I could hit that in MC and Valve games and some simpler top-down games but not much else...

It didn't create a crash folder for some reason. But I did try all the other versions of OptiFine and found that OptiFine 1.8.1_HD_U_B5 is working.

did you actually buy the game? or are you using a cracked launcher? Because the C versions of Optifine wont work with cracked launchers.

The performance with this mod is unbelievable however I have a question. Around every 5 seconds or so , when I have vsync enabled ,there is a frameskip. When looking at the framerate information it seems as if the game jumps to 61 , then goes to 59 and back to 60. Does anybody know how to stop this?

You can try enabling OpenGL Triple-buffering in your graphics control panel.

The mipmap type should not affect the flickering, this looks like a graphics driver problem.
    A video will be nice.

I also just experienced this, changing mipmap type seemed to fix it. I'll try to get a video...

I'm getting artefacts with C3 that I never got with anything in the B series.

    See attached images.

The artifacts are from AntiAliasing being enabled.

Preview OptiFine HD C3 Ultra for Minecraft 1.8.1 is available here.

    What is new:
    - significant performance improvements
    - may contain some bugs

Getting tons of missing/see-through chunks on this one. They seem to load much faster though. C2 does not have this issue.

This looks like a graphics memory limit.
AF/AA doubles the graphics memory usage, CTM may also double the memory usage, depending on the resource pack. When out of memory the graphics driver starts to swap textures to main memory which is slow.

Hmm I did some testing, and it's possible GPU-Z does not report V-RAM usage correctly for opengl games, but nevertheless these are the results I got:

    • Minecraft, nothing enabled- ~400MB
    • Minecraft, CTM enabled- ~500MB
    • Minecraft, CTM/AF enabled- ~800MB
    • Goat Simulator- ~1000MB
    • BattleField 4 (64-bit)- 1935MB
I was basically hitting my 2GB memory limit with battlefield and the usage stopped rising after it hit a bit over 1900 and leveled off, presumably caching to ram. But even with these results you still might be right since I don't know if GPU-Z is accurate for Minecraft. After I enabled AF, I noticed GPU utilization went down to about 15% meaning there is a bottleneck happening somewhere at least. I'll check again to make sure its not maxing out a CPU core.

Not that it matters at all when you run at 240 or 225.. Anything over monitor refresh (or 60) will only strain your GPU unneeded. If you like the heat in your computer case, steam away.

Thats obvious, however running without V-sync is useful for finding bottlenecks. Also you are not entirely correct in that it does make a gameplay difference. Mouse response-time is significantly lower with unlocked frame rate compared to locked. The trade-off is screen-tearing artifacts.

OptiFine HD Ultra C2 for Minecraft 1.8.1 is available here.
OptiFine HD Ultra C2 for Minecraft 1.8 is available here.

    What is new:
    - fixed Connected Textures: sugarcane, glass panes, rails.
    - fixed Forge compatibilty
    - fixed grass overlay with AF/AA
    - reports repeating OpenGL errors in chat (1285: Out of memory)

Running without CTM or AF, I get ~240FPS

With only CTM enabled (and a compatible resource pack) I get ~225.

With only AF enabled, I drop to ~104, which is expected.

However, enabling both CTM and AF, I drop to 21 FPS. So there seems to be some sort of conflict between them...

Currently I don't have a PC but I've been getting parts lists going and I'll be building one whenever I get £500 (so far it's either going to be a Pentium G3258 + 260X or an A10 6800k due to my needing of a monitor and keyboard).

    My laptop specs:

Manufacturer is Toshiba so I don't have any airflow, temperature or build quality issues.

Pentium B950 w/ Intel HD (pretty sure it's the first Intel HD because Pentium but whenever I download drivers it's always for Intel HD 2000 and the updates actually apply to it so I just deal with it)

6GB RAM (Two modules in dual rank, 2GB and 4GB, speed is 1600MHz)

Monitor is a generic 15.6" horrible TN Panel with crappy viewing angles @ 1366x768.

    750GB Hard Drive.

And somehow this thing can run the 100 games on my Steam library at playable framerates (30+ FPS, with some at 60FPS though EU4 runs at like 10FPS).

Off topic: Nice Another avatar. Was a pretty good show.

Versus a stock 7950, overclocked it would easily take the lead again with the excess memory bandwidth. IIRC the Myst also draws quite a bit more power, even closer to 250W when overclocked.

Yeah well, at the time that I bought it the Myst was like $100 cheaper than the full 7950. It was by far the best bang for your buck.
