Man, that's about as hard an error to diagnose as is possible... I just tried myself and signs show up fine. Are you sure it's not another mod? Using 1.8.0_60.
Sorry about vagueness, was in a hurry. I do use a good assortment of mods alongside better HUD, I can reproduce it and watch the logs for anything that points to the error.
Edit: Okay....so this is very weird. I've re-enabled java 8 and I now see signs regardless. I'm not all that crazy :-/ Computer tech here myself....Love the "bring the issue here and it start working" terminology.
Hmmm, i just updated to the most recent version (1.3.2c) and i now cannot see signs expect through the mod itself. Editing/seeing "block" is invisible to me.
Edit: Microsoft decided to change my settings for java to their "hidden" java 8 download they use apparently on a launcher update....again. So compatibility with java 8 has issues with signs, java 7 works perfect.
Aha! I generated a new color file for myself in the 1.8 version of MapWriter, put that on my server and re-generated the anvilmapper map, and it was all purple
Then I quickly compared the color file to the previous one I used, and noticed that for some reason the 1.8 version also writes a non-transparent color for block 0 (= Air) to the file. Thus it probably rendered the whole map as purple air blocks
So the fix for the purple rendering is to simply remove the line from the MapWriterBlockColours.txt where it defines a color for block 0 (ie. remove the line "block 0 * ff7c007c" in my case).
You sir/mam are awesome, thank you so much for the help!!!! I owe you a beer or something :-P
Hmm. Is this a server world or a single player world? I think you might have to join/load the world in question before copying the file, so that the block color id mappings are for that particular world. Which version of Minecraft? Which version of MapWriter are you using (which build/made by who)? I don't know if there have been any changes to that part of the mod in vectron's or someone else's builds lately... I think the version I have been using (in 1.7.10) is from jk-5's github, basically the latest version available from the original author plus the small fix to make it compatible with 1.7.10 instead of 1.7.2.
Version of Minecraft: 1.8 modded with Forge/Liteloader
I believe the reason of 1.8 mismatch is due to the new block naming scheme in 1.8. I had tried to get around this but it requires a re-write of how anvilmapper reads the block id's.
Did you copy over the MapWriterBlockColours.txt from your mod pack/modded instance and point to that that when running anvilmapper?
I haven't had problems with colors, I don't think, at least I don't remember it...
Are you saying that the entire map is just purple and nothing else?
I did, i even deleted the MapWriterBlockColours.txt file from the mods folder, told mapwriter to rebuilt it, and copied the rebuilt txt to the anvilmapper folder overwriting the old txt file. The rendered map chunks are all purple. With the old txt file it renders fine exept 1.7+ blocks.
You should be able to extract that to the anvilmapper repo/directory (well, or where ever I guess) and then run it from there like I explained earlier.
It works! Although the colors are still alittle funky XD
It's all purple, this is with vanilla minecraft. This was the issue i had before that i could not figure why.
Did you manage to compile it succesfully? If so, then to run the program, you should look at the anvilmapper.sh script for some reference on how to run it. I haven't updated the run.bat script for Windows, since I don't use it on Windows so I can't test it...
Basically you should open a command prompt in the anvilmapper directory (shift + right click in explorer -> Open command window here), then run it like "java -cp bin anvilmapper/Anvilmapper path/to/world path/to/outputdir path/to/blockcoloursfiletouse". The block colours file paramater is optional, if you don't give it, then it should use the file in the repo directory.
Edit: Oh btw, you should copy the MapWriterBlockColours.txt from your modpack's config directory to somewhere where you want it to be for running anvilmapper (you could just overwrite the one in the anvilmapper repo). The one that is in the repo most likely won't be correct for any mod pack nowadays, especially when the block ids are all dynamic/per world.
FYI im running windows 8.1, but i run the compile.sh to compile the bin folder, but it fails with 37 errors as it cannot find the needed files for it to build. I'm assuming I will need to get my linux machine out to compile it fully?
Here's the error:

I spent a little bit of time polishing some of my updates/improvements to Anvilmapper I did a while back.
The main difference in the program itself is that my version can take the output directory and the block colours file as arguments when running the program. And just now I also improved the script I used to compile it, so that if you are on Linux you can compile it simply by running the compile.sh script. And I added an example bash script for running the program.
This is amazing, although I am running on a windows system so this will be a little different for me. I keep getting an error stating "Could not find or load main class anvilmapper.anvilmapper
Vectron, by chance could you look at the OP for Anvilmapper, this tool was a handy tool to make a Google Map version of what mapwritter made. Thanks in advance!
My entire minimap has suddenly turned entirely black. This happens only when I'm using a resource pack. It did not happen before and only now it has been rendered FUBAR. I reinstalled Minecraft and LiteLoader. Using 1.3.3 because 1.4.8 doesn't show up in the modlist
The reason 1.4.8 is due to it is requiring the newest version of liteloader because it has new API hooks that it uses. (or something like that is new i believe.)
I seem to have found a bug in the current 1.8 0.11.1_beta_2. This was not there in pre_1.8.
I created a keybind for $$P, which is for tppos on cords. When i click my keybind the list comes up as normal, but as soon as I click on the "add place" it crashes right away with this. I removed all mods and still had the issue with just macros. This log contains the other mods however.

I'll put out a release of VoxelMap that actually (optionally) outputs said images soon. At least initially, image output will be activated by a line in voxelmap.properties that will need to be added before you run Minecraft, and which will not be saved (you'll need to add it each time you want to spam your cache folder with .pngs)
Optifine C6 is causing no problems for me, with and without Forge. strange
Thank you so much for working on this, it is very much appreciated by me and more likely others. I'll take a look at it tonight to see how it goes.
I'll take a look at all the plugins I am using and see if any are conflicting, if any are I'll get hold of the person dev'ing for the certain plugin, as well as you in case if there is a conflict on your side, never know XD.
AnvilMapper could be useful, at least for the html page. I don't need the code for converting from .mca to image so much, as I do that myself. It was precisely the html that was lacking. I'll give this a try. *EDIT* well it is wanting images in different sizes (for zooming etc). Will see if it's easier to adapt its variable output sizes to voxelmap, or bring voxelmap's region data to image code to it or what.
Optifine: I tried it with Optifine Ultra B4 and it was fine, though new versions have come out since. If they break something I just have to shake my head and say "optifine" It's always been a very invasive mod that changes a lot of stuff. I'll check out the newest (C2 or something) and see what happens.
Awesome! Glad to at least help with pointers, i've been wanting to make a map of our server, but sadly mapwriter/anvilmapper has been defect since 1.7 due to block colour issues.
As for Optifine, I am using Optifine C6 1.8. I would rollback to earlier version of opti, but it seems that optifine does not like to load mp servers fully.
MamiyaOtari, may i direct your attention to anvilmapper, it's open source, you might be able to change it to according to what is needed to make a map using googles api. I've been trying to look at updating it, but the differences between mapwriter and anvilmapper are so big that it's unable to build now.
Also, some reason when I updated to the newer version of voxelmap, it is dark with random blocks showing, i can get biome mode to work, I am assuming a possible incompatibility with optifine (will check later tonight when i get home)
I can confirm a incompatibility with optifine on 1.8

Vectron, by chance could you look at the OP for Anvilmapper, this tool was a handy tool to make a Google Map version of what mapwritter made. Thanks in advance!

The reason 1.4.8 is due to it is requiring the newest version of liteloader because it has new API hooks that it uses. (or something like that is new i believe.)

I created a keybind for $$P, which is for tppos on cords. When i click my keybind the list comes up as normal, but as soon as I click on the "add place" it crashes right away with this. I removed all mods and still had the issue with just macros. This log contains the other mods however.

Also, some reason when I updated to the newer version of voxelmap, it is dark with random blocks showing, i can get biome mode to work,
I am assuming a possible incompatibility with optifine (will check later tonight when i get home)I can confirm a incompatibility with optifine on 1.8
