We just migrated our server from my crappy connection in my house to the host I've used for years for other games. Bigger pipe, nice powerful VM, etc. I didn't migrate server properties, just let it regen the file and I didn't change the view distance.
We went from desolate to "OMG, night is dangerous again!"
We are seeing a serious lack of monsters spawning on my family server. The properties file is correct and there are monsters....just not very many. That's disturbing to me.
I run a small server for friends and family. Since patching to 1.6.5, performance isn't terrible (although the dreaded "chunk errors" have returned, where a nice 16x16 hole is there right down to the void)
My concern and my users concur - mob spawning seems to be seriously broken. There is a serious lack of monsters. Some do spawn, but you can run quite a bit at night with little to no danger.
Yeah what gets me is that Notch hasn't even updated his blog to say he's on to it. It isn't even the weekend till tomorrow. I know the dude might be busy but he has other team members to code and **** too, or two even make an official announcement to say they're fixing it?
Agreed. I've had a few friends join my private server over the past 2 weeks. Now I've got it down, since it's just plain not working and they're jonesing. Had really hoped to have a fix for the fix in place before the long weekend.
So here's a question to chew on...since ghasts attack ZPM in the Nether, are the zombie pigmen regarded as hostile targets for other mobs? Will the zombies, skeletons and creepers be going after them as well?
I guess we're going to have to define what we mean by productive.
From an SMP standpoint, the game has gone from "useless" to "worth playing in Survival mode and fun without having to actually install a bunch of 3rd party mods". And that's from the November to now time frame.
No, he's not adding a handful of fun items every two weeks. Based on his blog postings, that doesn't seem to be the model anymore.

Fortunately, the new server CAN handle it.

Same thing happened to me, exploring new area last night on my family server.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Notch is upping the amount of boost, he announced this at the same time that he said that the booster bug was being fixed.
