I had this same issue. All I did was to download Heyo new 124 build to a new folder on my desktop ran the server_nogui to make sure it worked first. It had a new world of course. Then all I did was rename the new world folder something else since that is what the server.properties points to is "world"(unless you renamed it) then I just copied my "world" folder from the old bin folder to the new created folder for the 124 build and then I could play my old world again. It is pretty easy.

I was on and playing fine in my SMP sever. Logged out then went back in 30min later and the world was changed. I run HeyO and run the server_nogui.bat from the bin folder that was downloaded as part of his mod program. Also about 40 new folders are in the bin folder taht were never there before. All of them containing various folders of their own along with .dat files. What the hell happened? If I go into the world folder that is inside the bin folder I can see a level.dat_old that saved at around an hour before this happened. I have no idea if I can restore it to that or not or how to do it. If I delete all of those new folders in the bin folder they just come right back after I launch the server.

Are you behind one router or two? if you are behind 2 then you need to enable DMZ hosting in your main internet modem and put in the ip for the second router so the info flows through to it. if you have one modem/router then there is something in their set to not allow the port forwarding to fully work. If port forwarding worked then the port would be open. login into your modem and look to see if anything in port forwarding is disallowed or not and if you have a true static ip. You need that for sure. Most modem allow you to switch to a static ip.

i am having problems and was hoping you could help.

Earlier today i spent nearly 4 hours with GreyVulpine on the irc help channel and still no luck on getting a server to run and people to connect.

    i have:
    forwarded the port
    made exceptions with firewalls
    disabled firewalls and tried then
redownloaded java and mc classic server then tried
and much more but all to no avail.

I am able to open up the server and it will run, but nobody is able to connect to it and when i check my ports 25565 is not able to be reached, even though i have port forwarded it and everything.

This is very frustrating as i am able to play classic singleplayer in the browser, play alpha single and multi in browser, but i am not able to connect to any classic servers myself.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

I had a heck of time getting my port forwarded because of my router that was not in the list of pcwintech, but after contacting shane who made it he helped me out and I got him all the screen shots to add to the list and he told me how to get the second router to recognize what is going on. In hind sight it was really simple with his software had I known what the hell I was doing in the first place.

I am looking for a good server with people over the age of 12 for once. I am older and just want to have fun and build. I have been a moderator on a couple of other servers so far, but they either get shut down due to griefers(losers), or just shut down period, and all my hard work is lost. Oh and i grew up in a 420 family:) i am familiar with mods and lugins like Heyo, cuboid and a few others if any help is needed getting those to run right.

I get the same issue on my computer at my desk but on another much older computer in the office it runs fine. Both computers are XP SP3 with the latest java. I have tried various work arounds like creating a .bat file with a command someone wrote in another forum but no luck there either. It seems to be hitting mostly XP based machines, and random at that. Our tech guy could not figure it out other than the minecraft language is not written properly to work on all aspects of java and that it is really hard to figure java out in the first place. It ran on his windows 7 computer fine as well.

Maybe notch will be able to help out later in future updates.

    1. Download Minecraft.exe from http://www.minecraft.net
    2. Save to your desktop as Minecraft.exe
    3. Open Notepad
    4. Copy and paste this in the notepad.
    java -Xms650m -jar "C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Desktop\minecraft.exe
    5. Save as minecraft.bat to your Desktop
    6. Run minecraft.bat and ENJOY !

I was so bummed to see that the server went down this weekend. I hope notch can get it sorted soon. we are going through horrible withdrawals at this point I think:) I dont know what to do with myself right now. It is so boring at work now.

P.S Does anyone know why I keep getting an error with Jave that says COuld not create jave virtual machine? I get this on just my computer at my desk running XP SP2 I have the latest Java and tried to install it again. It only happens when I try to run it from desktop and the game works fien running in browser for some reason. I read it has something to do with the heap memory but I have no clue how to edit that.

Side note- At least no one can grief our hard work right now:)
