To all those saying the new terrain generator is boring -
I launched minecraft, which I haven't done in weeks, and I generated a new world. This was the spawn.
Honestly, if I really wanted a good map, I'd google for heightmaps and then import them into WorldPainter. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.
It's boring because there's no variation. I'm 100% sure if you find another jungle, it'll look exactly the same.
World Painter in my opinion is a very bad tool. The mountains look like spiky bumps, not actual mountains, and you can't undo. And we shouldn't have to use tools if we want good terrain.
Ladies and gentlemen, the letter has been sent! If someone can try to estimate a ToA, then I'll be able to know when I can fully have the letter open to the public. There's a couple of things I edited since the printing, but nothing major. I also took off the signature and I had to print out another last page and I forgot to make a smiley face, but at least it's done!
This update has been added to the OP. All pictures containing the letter still remain.
1. RAM doesn't grow on trees...Last time I've seen a RAM tree was just a plastic decoration that Windows made and put up in their office (no, not really, just making up a story). Think of the people who are on a budget and only have a 3-4 GB RAM computer. Want me to spend $20.99 just for one GB of RAM while Mojang thinks this is a really good idea and adds this in and the requirements are 8GB of RAM and for quality performance 16GB of RAM? I don't think so...
2. What you're really asking for is lag lag lag. It takes REAL RAM to have better terrain.
3. Everywhere I turn there's a mineshaft...I can't ask for more...I don't want sky shafts.
4. (Nothing for 4.) 5. Well, I do, and if the terrain becomes more realistic... RAGE QUIT FOR ME!!! Sorry, no support from me...Does it look like I can afford for more RAM on the double!?
I have a 1-GB RAM Windows XP, and Minecraft can run at 50+ FPS with the old terrain. RAM doesn't make a big difference.
you should add Smart Movement mod, or did you already try that?
How would that make sense?
I mean, better crouching would be nice, but we can do without it, and it's about all we would use from the mod. I don't think we need it.
I just found an ironic Beta seed.
It's the numbers from Lost- 4815162342 -and it spawned me on a beach.
This may or may not work with the mod, I used this in 1.7.3.
I think I agree with everyone else on this thread, swamps add variety and there's not much of that in this game anymore with the terrain generator nonsense.
The letter is done?
I realize we might not have needed to write the letter if Mojang bothered to read the forums. If you browse for 5 minutes, you'll probably find multiple threads on this plus hundreds of signatures leading to some.
Hmmmm. I like your points, minecraft is just too.......flat, I went to explore one time, half an hour of exploring, nothing cool, its just sooooo boring, mojang should implement the better generation mod, since it does at the LEAST add some of the generation factors that the op wants, but it doesn't put the bad parts of the 1.8 generation, and they did make exploring easier, I support your ideas wholly, and happily
Add me as a supporter

He said in the OP that mods are a temporary fix, and we need a permanent one.

Here you go. I think it looked better from far away.
