posted a message on Use the old forum icons again!
Bleh, I don't like the old icons, but these ones are way harder to tell apart at a glance... It's in the right direction, but it's a bit too far in that direction. The icons should be clean, but solidly different. Maybe use grass (new posts), dirt (no new posts), Nether portal (moved) and obsidian (closed topic) blocks viewed from the corner, and use an arrow item for a sticky topic? Polls can just be the standard block with a few vertical miniature item damage bars showing various values. That way, it's more uniform and clean looking without being boring as all heck.

Lol, Before video: NONONONO MOJANG WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!11!1... After video: Wow, this is awesome. You can now make hovering cylinders, spheres, etc. Too bad they can't collide. However, I can think of some neat uses for just the carts with levitating blocks...

posted a message on New Stone Types?!?!?! :o
    I like the concept, but:
    • All Diorite, and "raw" Andesite, need new textures. They're god-awful.
    • Rather than ugly splotches, each type of stone should compose all of the stone in a biome, complete with corresponding versions of ores.
    • "raw" Granite, Diorite, and Andesite should be craftable into tools and other things in place of cobblestone, at least until/unless they get their own tools, walls, etc.

Then how will people get cobblestone?

By going to a biome that has normal stone... You read my post wrong. Though IMO you should be able to make stone tools from these types of stone as well...

posted a message on Anybody else think "Less ocean = Less awesome?"
Come to think of it, the boringness was kind of the point of oceans... They're basically world borders. Want to go to a cooler continent? Sure, but it'll take a while to get there, and it won't be very exciting.

Well, the people complain about long ocean crossings more because they're boring than that they're long. Though higher-tier, faster boats would certainly help, it would probably be more helpful to add features that make the travel itself entertaining. It'd be a lot more enjoyable to adjust your sail to match the wind as you followed an ocean current.

That would be pretty fun... until it just becomes tedious. Sailboats should be naturally faster than the current boats, but if you bother to actively sail them they should be even faster. No, it's not realistic at all. But it sounds way better than having to play an annoying minigame of adjusting things, often multiple times, every time I want to cross an ocean.

Expanding the boat system (Adding higher-tier, larger, faster boats) and re-adding the old oceans would instafix this... just saying...

SOMEWHAT smaller oceans are all good and fine, but not if they cause the removal of true continents and oceans from the world. I love the new system of climates, but with all land smushed together into a single infinite continent it kind of loses half of its appeal...

posted a message on The mundane 3 months - 1.7's first snapshot?
My issue isn't the amount of time we have to wait for a snapshot (or probably release candidate, judging from how things are being done.), it's that I get the feeling that a lot of important things (e.g. oceans) probably won't even be touched and it'll make our waiting feel as though it wasn't really worth it...

If you try taming them they should try and kick you...

...Or at least have a chance of doing so. And it should do some good damage, too, and have a chance of giving you... I don't know, slowness or something, from getting hit in the stomach or crotch or whatever. It would make for good balancing, and certainly help make taming one a challenge.
