There's a huge memory leak in this mod.

When I quit Minecraft with this mod installed (tried both vanilla and OF, using cross-eyed view), memory leaks like f*** and fills up a good few gigabytes of space for no reason, then drains it all after a few seconds.

When it does that and my RAM is already only a few gigs from full, everything slows down to a helpless crawl as it tries to use swap.

Edit: It appears to do the same with vanilla Minecraft.

It crashes when I open my inventory in SMP. Tested with a vanilla minecraft and with OptiFine and SPC installed.

Edit: It crashes in SSP too.

I'm running Java 7 on 64-Bit Arch Linux, and I updated LWJGL.

I know. And people are still making them and ripping Skyblock off.

Yes, this was inspired a lot by SkyBlock. It's just a challenging and more entertaining twist. If you don't like it, then leave.

Think of it as a mixture of SkyBlock and Vech's. (Or you can think of it as a ripoff if you want, I can't manipulate your thoughts.)

    What is it?

SkyDeath is a survival map where you start on a small stone island with just a little bit of cobblestone and ice. Void surrounds you, and any fall is fatal. There are a few other islands around you, with different purposes. On those tiny islands, there are well-hidden ores, important items, traps that only the non-observant can fall for, and monster spawners.

    What does it look like?

Here's an Imgur Gallery of screenshots.

    Where can I get it?

    Mediafire Download

    Old downloads:

    • Make a bucket
    • Make an infinite water source
    • Make a pickaxe
    • Make a tree farm
    • Make a wheat farm
    • Make a better cobblestone generator

    • Finish the nether portal
    • Make a pumpkin/melon farm
    • Make a mob grinder
    • Make a house
    • Make a chicken farm

    • Make an enchantment table
    • Get water in the Nether
    • Survive an hour without dying

This was heavily inspired by SkyBlock survival by NoobCrew.

posted a message on Tjb0607's Backup Script: Instantly back up every save!
    Quote from ssokolow

I like the idea of a GUI-less backup script I can set up to run before (or following) each Minecraft launch via a wrapper, but it didn't look trustworthy enough to me. Given that I was in a geeky mood, I rewrote it in a more robust form in Python.

...partly because Python is better at this sort of thing while still coming with Linux and MacOS and being easy to install on Windows. (So now, Windows power users have something they can run in batch files if they want to.)

It's not as good as I can make it, but I have other things I need to get done today and tomorrow. For example, it's not that hard to add "store backups zipped to save space" to my Python version or Tjb0607's shell script version... Well, it's not hard to add it to his under Linux. I don't know if `zip -rT` is available on OSX.

I've only been able to test it under Python 2.7 on Linux, but I wrote it so that, minor mistakes aside, it should also work on both Windows and OSX under versions back to Python 2.4 and possibly earlier.

You can get it at https://gist.github.com/940290 and, if anyone wants to modify it and share their modifications, please use the "Fork" button on GitHub Gists so your version will appear in the list on the side for others to see.

Also, Tjb0607, a couple of things to say to you specifically:
    1. what license did you have in mind for your script? 2-clause BSD? (Basically, "Do whatever you want, just leave the authorship information intact")
    2. Feel free to ask me about the "why"s and "how"s of my code. I commented it heavily in case people are wondering, but you're generally supposed to limit your comments to what would be meaningful to people who are already familiar with the programming language.

EDIT: Just updated it with a simple little corruption check which tries to unpack the GZip compression on level.dat and old .mclevel-format files and, if it fails, it'll display an error message and keep the backup version... which reminds me. Would anyone else find it useful if I added the ability to specify a non-default location for finding saves? (eg. Backing up saves on servers, perhaps?)

I've been away from Minecraft Forums for quite a while now, and this is really awesome! I really don't care what people do with my script, so I guess it's under the wtfpl. I'm not too into programming, so it's nice to see some upgrades to my script.

Sometimes dying can take you to your spawn coordinates in the nether, usually far away from the home portal and hard or impossible to get back. This could be an incompatibility issue with single player commands.
