I was wondering if any one could supply me with a guide or something to help me build hogwarts castle

Not really an appropriate topic for support. Try posting in the creative or survival mode sections. You'll likely get more help there.

This is for problems with running or playing.

Also, just a word of advice: use a more descriptive subject. A topic like "Help" will get skipped a lot. Try something like "Need help designing Hogwarts Castle" or something.

    Have fun.

Try removing MC from your computer and re-downloading it from minecraft.net

Back up your saves, then delete your .minecraft folder. Also, for good measure, delete the exe file (or .jar file, for Mac or Linux).

Then, go to minecraft.net and re-download.

    See if that helps.

posted a message on Minecraft Lags a lot with HD Texture Pack!
    Quote from kados14

There is no reason you can't run a HD pack with that system. I can run a 64x pack on my system with a dual-core, 2 gigs of ram, with a geforce 9600. Zero lag. There has to be an underlying problem.

First, clean out your computer, get CCleaner and let it do it's job (it's free). Check your virtual memory settings, with that much ram, set it to let windows manage, too little v-ram and it will lag out your system, as java loves v-ram. Do a spyware scan, I reccomend Spybot....all of this is just to make sure you have no crap eating up processing power. Also, turn all the other crap you are running OFF, you don't need msn, yahoo, skype, mumble, and everything else to be running all at the same time, they will all eat up the ram you need. One alternative is to get Game Booster, it will shut everything down while you are playing. One BIG issue I have seen with minecraft is Norton, norton just eats ram until it is gone. If you are using norton, disable it while you are playing..or better yet, uninstall and get Avast free edition.

GeForce 9600 is a good card. The 420m is a terrible chip. With nVidia, look a the model number. The first digit is the generation marker. A higher generation isn't always better. The second digit is the product line. 1-4 are budget cards with very low power. 5-7 are medium grade cards that shouldn't have much trouble with. 8 and 9 are flagship level cards. They are extremely powerful, and usually cost a small fortune.

He's hammered by the fact that he's running the budget version of chip that's low powered to begin with (the 'm' in 420m). Your advice will definitely help (damn you malware! DAMN YOU!), but I don't believe he'll get the performance he's looking for. MC, for all it's blockiness, is surprisingly hard on the video system. You've got to have video power in addition to processor power.

EDIT: Also, I agree: Norton blows. Hard. I personally recommend AVG or ESet. Avg is free, but doesn't have a lot of features (in the free version anyway), ESet is paid software, but is MUCH better.

Don't know why but Minecraft lags a lot when I play with Misa's 64x64 HD pack on.

    Specs:

Intel Core i5-460M Dual Core Mobile Processor
    4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 Memory
    500GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
    8x DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Burner
15.6" WXGA (1366x768) LED Backlit Display With 1.3 Megapixel Webcam
NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M Dedicated Graphics With 1GB of Memory
    Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wireless
Three USB 2.0, HDMI, VGA, 2-in-1 Card Reader
    15" x 9.9" x 1.3" @ 5.7 lbs.
Windows 7 Home Premium, Office Starter, NTI MediaMaker, PowerDVD, Norton Internet Security

I've bolded your problems. Your video card well... uh... sucks. Sorry to put it like that, but I've never met a mobile graphics chip I've liked. Also, the mobile processors are typically downclocked to save power.

I'm nearly certain that your problem is video, though, and on a laptop, there's precious little you can do about it.

Advice: Run a good SD texture pack and forget HD until you get a desktop computer.

    this. this is the truth.
i was on today. i walked a little around my temple. I see Phantoms town where i suggested that he should build there.....and then i turn around, only to be smacked in the face with a god darn dirt pad in the sky. seriously. a dirt pad. like 4 corners, one block of dirt, and a cobble castle on it. i went up there. checked with string. skytopia. seriously. could have moved it further away from my temple. i dun care who that made it, it looks like crap.

Yeah. Even though I'm told my city looks like crap, buttpenny1 just had to go and put a big-arsed wooden creeper right next to Cloud. I realize I'm an eyesore to begin with, but gorram... you had to put it THERE?

    Is arson legal yet?

    So... A question:

I'm growing weary of some of the shorcomings of the vanilla client. So, I ask - What (legal for this server) client mods should I install?

I'm not sure exactly what's legal and what's not. I know xray and fly are banned, but apart from that, what else should I avoid?

I vaguely recall a better chat mod.. anybody run it? Any good?

I'm not terribly worried about performance. I've got a pretty badass machine that typically runs at around 217 fps.

posted a message on Multiplayer Server Favorites
I've looked and CTRL-F'd my way through the "Already Posted Ideas" section, and find it hard to believe that nobody has suggested this yet, as it's something that I, personally, find annoying, and would be a very simple thing to implement:

    Server Favorites.

On the connect to server window where you enter the address of the MP server you wish to connect to, can we possibly get a favorites option, so that the games saves our most recent five or ten server connections instead of only the most recent. Or, possibly, only saves servers that we have chosen to 'sticky'.

That way, those of us who play on multiple servers don't have to keep a txt file full of ip addresses and ports, and we don't have to memorize everything. It seems like it would be simple enough to implement.

    Thanks.

posted a message on Minecraft 1.6 Is Out!
    Quote from Fiddler_Green

They could if they had more time. If, say, Notch finished fixing all the initial bugs earlier than like _one day before the update_.

The issue here is not whether patches are needed (because this is Beta, duh); it's that this update actually made the playing experience *worse* for some players testers, due to errors like the CPU hog bug or faulty lighting which would be entirely avoidable if only Notch had taken more time expected because the game is still in development. This is a rushed update, done sloppily, and while we *did* purchase this game with full knowledge that it was incomplete, if a patch makes gameplay testing worse instead of just-about-the-same, then Notch isn't exactly delivering the goods is still in the process of writing it.

    Fixed that for you.

Dude, it's a fracking BETA. You absolutely purchased the game -- When it's released. Until the game is officially released, you are not a player, you are a BETA TESTER. It is your job to find the bugs in the game and report them. That's why you were given a discount on the game: in essence, you are working for Notch right now.

Stop grousing about the fact that there are bugs in the game. It's annoying to me, too, but I have an understanding that, while acting as a beta tester, I am essentially a member of the development staff, as is every single minecraft player until Nov. 11. Don't whine that the game has bugs. Report them, but don't whine about it and attack the staff.

Also, take a look at the scale of this game. Now take a look at the list of people actively involved in churning out code. Now back to the game. Now back to the list. This is a huge undertaking, and if you feel you can do a better job, I invite you to write your own massive creative sandbox game.

While Java is a platform independent language, there's absolutely no way to foretell how changes to code are going to react on every single computer out there. They're too different. The only way to be sure is to write it, do some minimal testing, then release it to the beta community to test the ever-loving crap out of it in as many different configurations as possible. Why do you think there's a beta plan at all?

Ok ok it is time for me to right another seemingly long post to cover all that is this server.
I personally love this server. The admins and mods are great, the server didnt have lag until bukkit messed up but dade (the server owner is fixing it), It seems to me that there is a town for every type of builder... just to list a few..
Valk a town for the simply amazing builder, Noobtown... a town for the new people on our server so they arent thrusted into the wild and pked by some jerk (cough cough) and many other towns that are a work in progress Cloud city, Lagan, Lunar's big...glass...bubble..thing, the citadel and many more. The server has a well structured economy based around player run shops found in most if not all every city. Its a pvp,pve server which makes it fun :3.So come on join have fun... build some, kill some, let loose and have some fun :3

I haven't even seen Lagan, The Citadel, or Lunar's big...glass...bubble...thing. Just goes to show that I'm still discovering things here.

GAH! Workday! Y U go so so?

No, if you need to reset, you just hold in the reset button on the back or bottom of your router for 30 seconds, then wait one minute, then disconnect and reconnect.

I have to run for now. See what you can do, and I'll be back in a few hours.

Just to be sure I try tolog in at the right url. I useed whatsmyip.org to get my IP adreass. When I type it at the URL, i comes to a log in screen with my Zyxel router model.

So I have to turn of the router, then log in, and then turn it on again?

The IP you get from whatsmyip.org is your PUBLIC ip address. To log into your router, you want your PRIVATE gateway IP. You can get it using the ipconfig/ifconfig directions I gave you earlier. You're accessing your ISP's gateway into your router, which you will NEVER get the password to. They won't share it.

The whatsmyip.org address is what you're going to put into the @ record of your dns address when you get it, either from godaddy or from dyndns.
