    good idea. a Volcanic biome should essentially be built around a volcano. the map generator generates a volcano in stead of a mountain, which also shoots the occasional fireball. there should be ash fall, generating ash like snow covers block in snow.


    high probability of iron, low probability of diamond, redstone and coal. also no trees. ash kills all plantlife, and on an ash-covered block, nothing can grow.


    volcanic VS Nether.


    Nether is hell, with creatures and terrain that kill you.


    a volcanic biome is different. there are no Nether blocks, for instance, and while lava is plenty, there are no seas of lava. also, there are resources.

    i'd say just a detector for resources. no linking, no pointing.

    a red light blinks slowly when you're in a 10 block radius of a resource and stays on in a 5 block radius.

    i like the ideas in the OP. i still believe that daylight in the Ether (during the actual day) should damage the player.


    i like the Ether as a light and air realm, not sure about ice.

    falling down should kill the player IMO.

    i'd prefer the "Black and white" approach (the game).

    camera pans in from above, pierces through the clouds, and it arrives over your head. then it focuses on you, moves to your back, and then moves "into" your head, like a ghost appearing from space and taking possession of you. as if someone's lost and it's up to you to help him get somewhere, wherever that might be

    so for some reason my post got lost.


    i personally like the saying "don't be afraid of what hides in the dark. be afraid of what hides in the light".

    i think the Ether should be a world which appears all sunshine.


    in fact, why not make the sun damage you.

    within 15 seconds of standing in the Ether's sunlight, you catch fire. this means that during this day, you can actually die from the searing sun.

    during the "night", the Ether is lit like the main world. this means it never gets dark.


    added bonus: mobs spawn in the light. so the only way to be safe is to create a poor-lit house.

    no i hate the aspect of levels. the power is minecraft is being a demigod (you're not a complete god) in a fictional world. the sheer power of possibility is overwhelming and well, this is the power of minecraft. it's what i love. want to build huge structures? set it to peacefull and you can build immense castles and extensive dungeons. want to go be a slayer, go kill creatures.

    at best, i'd like achievements. just to show the crazy things like "die within 30 seconds of respawning" " break 1 000 000 blocks" "break 1 000 000 rocks" and "mine 1000 diamond " etc.

    i haven't tried it, but wouldn't technically having a mob fall NEXT to a cacti damage it anyway?

    considering forges are easy to craft, i simply build a 2x2 block of forges, fill them with a stack of wood and add in materials as needed. same for production of glass, and regular stone
