    Don't forget the golden dung.

Ohh Golden Dung. Is there anything you're not useful for? It's like the 9's man, soon you'll have to nerf them.

"Fear and Loathing in Minecraft" - I hope this means on the final release we'll be able to smoke hemp while riding a pig.

I think you missed a release. Combining hemp, coal dust and hellfire plus some paper in a stoked cauldron produces smokeable hemp. it was introduced a couple of 9's ago.

I tried giving my wolfsie a hatsie but it ate it :(

Give it bootsies first, that should help. The idea is that by isolating it's feet with bootsies, the evil of a wolf conducts less and thus makes them less prone to hatsie-eating.

Did I mention that this was after I had gotten eaten again? She dove in after my pickaxe.

I nearly died because of a Hat and me and my friend never laughed so hard about it.

But yea, the game isn't hard. just punishing you for your own faults.

well then how do you stop your wolf from turning into "The Beast" ...keep them fed?

you don't just need wool: you need something to keep them stuck to the wolf's feet. It's quite an ingenious recipe if i'm honest.

Yes, you're right. Its wrong and should be avoided.

All i got left to say on the manner is: by avoiding real confrontations, you'll never learn how to deal with it. The first, maybe 2-3 times it's hard. If you can adapt, you'll quickly find that death is your own fault, as is failure.

Is it wrong of me to cheat in a beacon to bind myself too so i can get better at the game without death being an end all factor for me?

    Yes.

Look, plenty of people make a weird habit out of thinking dying is somehow supposed to happen or somehow the end of it all.

Play BTW like any other game you play. Expect death around every corner and do your very best to avoid it. Don't run and jump around (i was walking around in Borderlands 2 for a while until i realized i could run without penalty) unless it saves your ass. If you can get a better sword, make a better sword. If you can get better armor, MAKE better armor. No armor is a recipe for death. And best of all: you can modify your environment. Use it to your advantage.

Play BTW like an actual game in stead of Minecraft and you'll find that your Kill:Death ratio goes up (not that it matters, but it also doesn't matter in COD or so :P ), you can progress beyond eating pumpkin seeds and you won't have to stumble around looking for your pants and stuff.

Walk around in the forest at night and we'll talk again later.

Using iron pickaxes to mine just above the hardest layer and find a cave that way is definitely possible, but in my experience it doesn't give you back near enough iron to replace your pick, and they break pretty quick when mining that much stone. Again, it just doesn't seem right to have to rely on luck of finding the right cave(s), sure it could be no big deal, but you could also waste most of your iron on picks just to find caves with redstone and lava in them.

TBH, you are relying too much on luck.

Caves are plentiful and really deep caves even more so. Use your iron pick to mine (in a cave) enough iron for a replacement. By then you'll have -if you're conservative- enough uses left for another iron pick (roughly).

FInding deep caves is mostly a balance between the time you want to spend and the resources you want to invest (this mechanic shouldn't be new to you).
Either you find a terrain riddled with surface caves (which is a near-guarantee they'll go deep).

Or you do as FC does: mine deep, turn the volume high and dig towards mobs. Note: finding a couple of caves on the surface -again- commonly indicates caves far below. unlike method 1, you don't really have to look for a load of caves: one or two nearby is enough of a hint.

I know people like to save animals for later, but I really don't find it to be a crucial game tactic. I much prefer to just kill everything on sight, and go find more animals later once I need them, and it's yet to be a problem for me in all of my play-throughs of the early game.

If i plan to settle down, i usually bury 2 cows for future use and murder everything else (except chickens for my eggs of course). Since there's quite some lag between getting reliable food and wheat, keeping a pair of animals for future use is sufficient.

"Lava" is an answer to a question that hasn't even been posed. Kinda like 42 or something.

I just realized the brilliance of that statement.

Have you took some time to look at the change-log lately? It is full of FC giving use to the "useless". From squid, to actually giving witch huts a meaningful reason. The list goes on. There is a limit as well, what can you really do with lava? People say gravel is useless, I use it all the time to dry lava up. ;)

It's not giving use to the useless. It's inventing a cool new aspect of the mod. He then looks at what's already there to fit the bill and move on.

He could've made an entire range of new mobs to make the night more dangerous, but it was more effective to just modify the existing ones.

Because science fiction, at it's core, allows us to explore the meaning of life, the limits of morality and the condition of the human mind in a context where this can be more easily facilitated, exaggerated and explored.
