Quote from Infinity000»Anyone else foreseeing a subscription model coming into play for even PC Minecraft, making all those of us who have bought the game pay again for it? Or a model similar to Sims, where you have to pay for extra furniture and items and features? I look at this sale and can see the dark clouds over the horizon. Perhaps the storm will pass with little damage, or the next Hurricane Sandy lands on shore. I am very wary of this.
why would they? minecraft is making a ton of money not just via the regular sales, but also by merchandise like those dolls and crap. You can expect them to pull off a "facebook buys oculus rift". People scream, company keeps things the same and months later nobody cares

So when will you rename the mod to Better than better than wolves, to reflect the new content? ;p

I didn't follow the entire conversation, but did see this.
I myself roam for a few days, until i have the means to sustain myself for a few days. i then use that time to mine and gather more crucial resources. After that, several hunting expeditions to keep food up, and beyond that is usually the " stock up and explore the world" phase. At which point i either find a better spot and build my base there, or i return to the original occasionally to restock and advance.
Finding good materials like iron requires (or greatly benefits from) finding caves, so usually the end of my initial nomad phase is "whenever i find a suitable cave".

Nah, it wouldn't change a thing. People read neither the title nor the opening post, FAQ or even the last comment page.

I've been playing some Forge minecraft with friends (since they won't play BTW with me), and while it's infinitely more interesting than vanilla minecraft, i simply don't see any mod working well with BTW, nor do i see any mod reaching this level of quality.
Virtually every other main mod in virtually every modpack does what BTW does in simpler and easier ways. mods with electricity and item and liquid pipes are ubiquitous. But none of them do it with a feel for what minecraft is, with multiblock construction and proper mobtraps. Putting BTW in those mods will just make 90% of the mod obsolete and the other 10% a mere curiosity. Especially since most people tend to pick the easiest version of something in the modpack. Nobody's gonna use soulforged steel if you can just get powered armor with some coal, iron and obsidian. Yet those are the people that miss the point of this mod.
I've yet to see a mod that reaches BTW's level in progression, in integration and in terms of a total picture. Seems to me most mods are nowadays designed for a niche in a modpack, hoping that nobody's overriding their features with easier ones.

It's the bread man, it's the bread.

Well, with BTW, normal mode is already beyond-vanilla hardcore. So there's no shame in that.

How far exactly do you travel during the day? The first day is mostly about achieving a small hideout, but on subsequent days i spent most sunlight searching for wood, turning that into tools and then hunting for animals. Repeat for about 3-4 days to get a supply going, then make a choice for the future: Stay and build a base, or move on for a better spot.
As long as you dont jump and run too much, you can travel quite a distance with very little food.

It sounds to me like you run and jump too much, because food is plenty (unless you happen to have the unluckiest spawns possible). I mostly spend the first few days mining by night and murdering animals by day.
Small correction here: its not so much the work it needs to be updated, but the fact that anything beyond 1.5 doesn't offer much to the mod. It would mostly just involve ripping everything out, which makes updating to 1.8 a lot of work for next-to-nothing gain.

For a while now, Mojang's MO has been to add needless fluff in stead of fixing critical game problems. Like, absence of progression.
1.9 will bring a combat overhaul, which sounds promising until you see the plans and realize it's about the player-side only, not about all mobs being a non-threat and boring.

A piece of advice: read the last page of the thread before posting. The answer to your question is *literally* and i really do mean literally above your post

You do realize it's Mojang that developed this mod system?

It's not nearly as bad as it used to be. There were times when you'd get a dozen pages overnight, only to have it reduced to 2 pages in the morning because the rest was -at its mildest- flaming, update pestering and outright hate.
EDIT:
to clarify, the community seem to be worse than ever (for us). Its just that this mod is now mostly left alone.

It says 1.5.2 in the title, what more do you want? Besides every second or third page we get this discussion again and again and again and... well you get the point.
Also, i posted a snarky comment. What happened to that? Flame wars over updating again?

I can confirm. It was a major reason for me to settle in the desert, until i realized that it was literally the worst biome to settle in every other way.
