Jeb already said he would maintain map compatibility. Why would you assume he was wrong?

Every account costs $30. Just ban each username he uses and he will run out. You should never use IP bans; they are easily subverted by griefers but can block other people who just happen to be on the same network.

To update your drivers on Windows 7, click start, open the control panel, click Hardware and Sound, and open the Device Manager under Devices and Printers. Open the display adapters section; you probably have one thing inside. Right click that device and choose update driver software. From there, tell it to search automatically. After that finishes, Minecraft should work.

but its minecraft. The point is to do what you want. If you want to farm xp then go ahead and build a grinder. If you want combat go fight. Dont take our options away

By that logic, Mojang should implement a "give experience" button that gives you free experience every time you click on it. Do what you want, right?

If you build something on a public server, you have no reason to complain when someone makes changes to it. If you really want it to stay there untouched forever, you really have no business playing multiplayer, unless the building is truly meant for display (which few actually are), in which case you can get block protection if the server actually cares about your build.

posted a message on DoubleDeathrow's PvP Guide!
Traps really aren't helpful for actual PVP unless you are very clever. Don't ever expect a trap to kill someone when you aren't there; most people will notice pressure plates on top of TNT.

You can make traps triggered in non-conventional ways to get around this. For example, replace an interior door with two dirt blocks, and put a redstone torch on the back of one of them. This torch connects to another torch, which connects to a ton of TNT. Breaking one of the dirt blocks will blow up everything; no pressure plates are involved. Note that this won't stop x-rayers who will see the redstone and TNT, and since x-rayers are really the only people who will find your base when you are offline, this is pretty much pointless.

Active traps can be quite a bit more successful. For example, build a long tunnel in your base with a lever at the end. Pulling the lever removes the floor, dropping anyone in the tunnel down into lava. This gives you a backup plan in case you are being attacked and leaves no visible trigger mechanisms aside from the lever you pull.

posted a message on Repairing redstone and tracks on glowstone...
A few years of building circuits? Glowstone was originally a glass-type block. It was changed to stone, I believe in 1.6, then changed back shortly before release, so this can't possibly affect more than a few months' worth of circuits.

Also, the "It's a beta" argument fits perfectly here. You built circuits during a beta release, and an incompatability with a change broke them by the time the beta ended. Multiple fixes are easily available, so just use them instead of claiming that the state of the game in one particular beta build was the correct state for release.

posted a message on Did the Terrain Become BORING? (UPDATE 6/5/13 - 1.7 is a biome update?)
Remember when Minecraft was back in 1.7.3 and the terrain was awesome? When biomes were great, oceans were the right size, the hills complemented gameplay perfectly, and the terrain looked nice in general?

I sure don't. I'm shocked that so many of you seem to have this fantasy of how nice the old terrain generator was, when at the time, everything I mentioned above was being whined about.

I know a lot of people here have the attention span of a goldfish, so I'll spark your memory a bit. Do any of these things seem familiar?

"The biomes are too small and have ugly checkerboarding effects!"
"The terrain is all rolling hills with no space to build!"
"The oceans are just small lakes!"
"The grass looks like a dragon threw up!"

Now, because of the attention span issue I just mentioned, I would like to remind you that these complaints were for the 1.7.3 terrain generator, NOT the new one.

Some of the complaints about the new generator are just plain wrong. The 1.7.3 generator was the one where all the seeds looked the same; you could get a seed with a unique-looking spawn, but 500 blocks away it would look the same as any other world. The new generator is based on actual continents which change on a much larger scale, so a seed can be chosen to manipulate the landscape for thousands of blocks instead of a hundred or two.

Also, the community asked for swamps to be the way they are. Petitioning for them to be changed back would probably just get Mojang to stop listening.

If you only like land, stay on the land. Each individual continent is larger than most people will ever explore. If you do explore the whole thing, sail around it in larger circles each time until you spot another continent.

Sailing in a random direction and expecting to hit land quickly is just idiotic. That would be like starting from Australia and hitting the arctic and then assuming that earth has almost no land.

posted a message on I got thrown off minecraft for this. . .
In real life, children are expected not to exclude other kids from their group, especially with kids that are already in the group. If one of those kids is a bit difficult to deal with, you peacefully talk about the issue, getting parents involved if it is a tricky one, and then keep playing together. Completely excluding that kid from the group absolutely would be considered bullying.

What part of being on Minecraft do you think makes your social obligations any different? The OP's immediate reaction was to exclude (ban) the kid for doing something he didn't like, when he should have instead talked to him about it, either on Minecraft or in person.

Lots of people are supporting the OP because they would ban someone for griefing one time, but those bans are done because of the threat of actual griefers who legitimately want to ruin the server for everyone. This kid was certainly not planning to destroy everything, therefore banning him was an overreaction and an exclusion. If he had been running around blowing up TNT everywhere after being told to stop, then it would have been completely justified.

Why do you have to lie about the damage from mob attacks to prove your point? This is the second time you've done this.

posted a message on Is there no land beyond a certain coordinates
    Quote from Homem Pigman

Yes, the new generation made it all past a certain coordinate be only water. That means the world is a lot smaller. Notch even said that was intentional. I wonder why he'd remove play space for no reason at all.

And no far lands to compensate...

Another reason I think the new world generation is bad.

But that only happens 32 million blocks from the spawn. I challenge you to provide a seed that actually stops generating land at a reasonable distance.

You could start by making the ceilings one block higher in the two-high tunnels. Also, make all of your hallways at least two blocks wide; there were some tight areas in the front.

From there, I would add a tower that you can only reach from inside the cave house. You should also try to get some quirky redstone features in there, like a lockdown button that seals all doors; it's easy to hide your wiring in cave homes.
