posted a message on Command Block Samples from 1.12 no longer function under 1.13, thoughts anyone?

    Hello all,

I'm just getting into command blocks and I used an example from DigMinecraft.com below for a simple house. I originally tested it on the latest snapshot and thought I must be doing something wrong, so I tested on 1.13 with same results. I thought this was odd, so I then tried 1.12.2 and it worked perfectly fine as per the example here: https://www.digminecraft.com/command_blocks/house.php

Does anyone have any thoughts as to why the command block drops a bunch of sand instead of red stone blocks and hence, the house is not created with the same provided below (note: no errors are observed in output nor in game console log)?

    /summon falling_block ~ ~1 ~ {Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~5 ~-3 ~5 ~15 ~4 ~15 planks 0 hollow"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~6 ~0 ~10 wall_sign 5 replace {Text1:\"{\\\"text\\\":\\\"Created by\\\"}\",Text2:\"{\\\"text\\\":\\\"DigMinecraft.com\\\"}\"}"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~9 ~-1 ~14 torch 4"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~11 ~-2 ~14 torch 4"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~9 ~-3 ~6 torch 3"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~11 ~-4 ~6 torch 3"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~14 ~-5 ~11 torch 2"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~14 ~-6 ~9 torch 2"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~6 ~-7 ~11 torch 1"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~6 ~-8 ~9 torch 1"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~4 ~-9 ~11 torch 2"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~4 ~-10 ~9 torch 2"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~4 ~-11 ~10 wall_sign 4 replace {Text1:\"{\\\"text\\\":\\\"Created by\\\"}\",Text2:\"{\\\"text\\\":\\\"DigMinecraft.com\\\"}\"}"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~14 ~-14 ~14 ~14 ~-14 ~13 chest"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~5 ~-10 ~5 ~15 ~-10 ~15 stone_slab 3"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~14 ~-16 ~6 crafting_table"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~10 ~-17 ~7 bed 2"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~10 ~-18 ~6 bed 10"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~6 ~-20 ~6 ~14 ~-20 ~14 cobblestone"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~5 ~-18 ~7 ~5 ~-18 ~8 glass_pane"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~5 ~-19 ~12 ~5 ~-19 ~13 glass_pane"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~15 ~-20 ~7 ~15 ~-20 ~8 glass_pane"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~15 ~-21 ~12 ~15 ~-21 ~13 glass_pane"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~7 ~-22 ~5 ~8 ~-22 ~5 glass_pane"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~12 ~-23 ~5 ~13 ~-23 ~5 glass_pane"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~7 ~-24 ~15 ~8 ~-24 ~15 glass_pane"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~12 ~-25 ~15 ~13 ~-25 ~15 glass_pane"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~5 ~-28 ~10 dark_oak_door 0"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/setblock ~5 ~-28 ~10 dark_oak_door 8"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:command_block,Time:1,TileEntityData:{Command:"/fill ~ ~-30 ~-1 ~ ~40 ~-1 redstone_block"},Passengers:[{id:falling_block,Block:redstone_block,Time:1}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}]}

posted a message on When loading Snapshot 18W19B, where does this backup to when you choose yes

    Thanks all,

I did indeed locate this backup. I thought it odd it asked and then I didn't see it where I expected to. I know stuff happens, I do have a bug account and as soon as I reported it - it was marked as others like the Drowned bug in 15a as a duplicate. Totally appreciated!

I can tell you what I "know so far".

Spring and original promised GA date has come and gone. Seems to me after playing all these snapshots that some efforts and time were wasted getting to the main GA release with non-aquatic enhancements. Personally, I would have preferred they worry about some of the little things later in incremental releases. After all, who will care otherwise after they push such a large update anyway?

BTW, nothing like running the latest snapshot either. At least with 15a and the Drowned, that was just a bummer once you encountered it but now, it's like coming home to a world that never existed - except its the same map somewhat and you have everything on you to prove you were there! I mean, there's no way I would bother to keep playing 1.12 all this time, even with mods. My son rarely plays anymore on consoles as nothing has really changed in quite some time.

This may be a stupid question, but I loaded this snapshot and found myself with empty real estate and a reset world. Everything was regenerated from scratch with chunk missing errors and all I had was what was on me!

When I loaded this snapshot, as with others in the past, I am asked - Do you want to backup this world before playing?

I chose yes and it said it was successful, but where does that go and how does one locate the official steps for using that backup?

I read it will load correctly if it came from 15a and not 16a. Strangely enough, it seems a second world tested did carry over fine from 16a but not the main one I was testing. As I always play survival with no cheats ever, I'd like to get my diamonds and nether portals back, along with my house.

They need to address their current snapshot with the drowned. I actually preferred them not being there. If anything, perhaps they should consider leaving them below a certain depth. I commented on the bug report filed, sent two crash reports on two different saves, two different days but same hardware. Another thing to note for macOS users. I noticed a major performance hit with 1920x1080 on 10.12.6, Core i7 2.3Ghz with Intel HD4000. I used to be able to run minimal resource packs of 32 or 64 and even low end shaders. Now I have to turn them off entirely. The FPS is still usually at 60 or more but it appears chunks are taking a very long time to load, even in vanilla Minecraft snapshots since 10w.

*** Additional note, I am also running Thunderbolt 2 to LG Ultrawide display without issues. The game doesn't run in 4 to 5k res, but 1080p yes. ***

posted a message on Usage of Windows 10 version and Java PC version

    Hi all,

I'm confused on my purchase of the PC java version. When I purchased it, it indicated that it also included a Windows 10 version of this. For one, my son and I share profiles on MacOS. Each time we switch profiles, the game will not stay signed in under my profile. Eventually, either for him or for me we will be prompted to sign in and the password will not work. It's the same computer here, same install - should be same license from terms I read. Why does this occur and how do we properly ensure we can logon under the same game profile regardless of if he or I should log on at console.

Second thought. It seems that a Windows 10 version was also provided. This is only myself and my son playing, more so he than I. Has anyone tried having a single multiplayer session (like LAN party) let's say with you (the PC version) as the host and a Windows 10 client joining you? Is this possible for my son and I to build in a single world on my PC without the Realms thing (I have plenty of servers too) or if I too play as a PC client and he as a Windows 10 client?

I'd like to understand the license issue and why it keeps losing my game info between switching profiles (even when the game was not running), why I must essentially reset it in order to logon again normally and if or why it would not be possible to use the Java version and the Windows 10 version both using the same game profile but multiplayer together?

posted a message on Minecraft multiplayer compatibility

    General question all,

I have the PC or java version of the game and also the rights to use it on Windows 10. I do not run Windows however and therefore I have not used the Windows 10 version that I purchased at the same time.

Would it be possible to allow my son to play on the Windows 10 license and have multiplayer abilities (or the abilities to use mods for instance) so that we can play in the same local multiplayer world and build something together?

I know he cannot on his Wii U version or Pocket Edition but it would behoove Microsoft to allow more than Realms and have access to a LAN server (essentially our home game server). Thoughts anyone, will I need to buy him his own license or what?

posted a message on Cloning into a Command Block - Plausible but thoughts?

    Hello all,

I'm tinkering with the ability to to use a command block to take everything designed in an area by default (preferably but could be by player design after) and then clone that instead of just to another area, into a command block. I need this to undo actions that a general undo will not be able to do, because the initial trigger will be a command block and I want the surroundings preserved to be restored after.

So with that said, I know I can just clone to another area. That would mess up part of the map instantly for other players (if they were connected) or worse, until the action is somehow undone, could remove ores or other important things in that location (temples, villages or other needed resources). If I cannot clone everything into a command block, perhaps there is another location I could clone too (like far up in the sky or nether/end - any other place in memory and as many areas up to max 4096)?

I don't know if that is possible but it would be more appropriate because in my local multiplayer map, one should only be using the overworld anyway. I'm sure I can lock out those somehow so that's no concern. The greatest challenge seems to be making sure your command block playground can restore your default seeded world when play time is done...

This seems totally plausible and I feel can be achieved. Thoughts welcome and appreciated!

posted a message on "Update Aquatic" (Now 1.13): All Information We Have So Far

I'm happy to know this was announced - fantastic. Now get the darn thing done and quit blabbing about it before I fire you Microsoft and move to another game because you are too slow.

Sometimes I wonder, if there were enough people in the community to fork a project off Minecraft - similar thoughts and design but with all the features and stuff people want now - not dolled out every year at a major "shake the money tree" event to drag me into a Microsoft store where they still cannot show off the one feature that made me WANT to use Windows 10 in the first place - Holo lens not cheesy VR where I hold controllers to move a 3D movie around my peripheral view with little joysticks. Frankly, there hasn't been much improvement in VR (the functionality not rendering ability) since the 1990's!

Then again, I think that's where Microsoft wants their graphics and features to stay, behind the curve. Frankly, this should be pushed the week of the event - permitting users to voice thoughts that day. I bet Microsoft staff dislike Minecraft as much as Apple staff disliked iPods in the beginning so maybe that won't work for them, after all the parties were all at Microsoft locations using their "narrow-minded" vanilla versions. This is how good competition gets started though and how Google came to be.

posted a message on A version that Microsoft doesn't really want to create

I titled this in this manner because it's obvious.

Microsoft would prefer you buy an Xbox.

This doesn't fit into their business model.

They know these will exist and people will want them. There are some people that don't want to use Windows for everything (nor do I wish to use Apple for everything - I like apt-get or yum to update my packages in my OS).

This will be a vanilla version built to suit the better together model and I speculate will be darn near identical if not the same as that offered for the Nintendo Switch and possibly the same as that of the PE version.

You will need an Xbox Live account and possibly a subscription if they can arm wrestle Apple users into paying it.

Microsoft and shareholders should be ashamed of themselves - you might as well be the Lego Lord Business and Bad Cop... ruining everything for the creativity in children/teens and forcing everyone to the Xbox model perspective.

I think that sums up this version! Anyone else have any feature enhancements or requests (sorry bug and security fixes are for Xbox and Windows 10 versions first)?

posted a message on Mod Compatibility and Impact for Single and Multiplayer games

Hello Minecraft Forum members. I recently started messing with mods for my son to play with, along with some resource and shader packs. We were at MineCon Earth yesterday and found out about the newer content of course and I had already agreed to install a mod so here I am.

My level of experience in technical terms is far beyond the scope of this and I run Minecraft typically on Linux/MacOS because I don't want to use Windows. I understand there is some differences there in terms of ability in multiplayer; the better together articles I read just made this more confusing and clearly everyone at MineCon was mainly a console or Windows 10 player (since Microsoft is now involved).

So here I am with all this stuff - resource packs were straight forward as were the shader packs, albeit resource intensive no matter what. Mods, however, were a totally different story. Now my son has been playing this on console for at least a year and it wasn't but a month or so ago I mounted and installed the Java version on MacOS. The latest and only version I know to exist is build 1.12.2 at this time and I have the Windows 10 version but I don't think it would permit multiplayer access in the same way (perhaps I am wrong there). The first mod I went to install was one of ocean life my son has seen on YouTube, it failed to load as it required 1.8 and has FATAL errors in the log file. The second, Stuffed Animals, once again appears to be for 1.7 although I didn't bother to try that one.

The first question I have for all is, what is the compatibility with most of these mods - especially ones like these that are popular with younger audiences?

How can one install these and is there a means to run an older version of Minecraft as a client (or server if desired)?

The second question I have is - from what I can tell, the mod is specific to the build code itself - whereas resource packs and shader packs are not and are just client-side correct? (Example, I have a server on AWS, Digital Ocean, etc. and I install forge and whatever mod my son and his friends want. That mod will affect any who connect to that server and seeded world but not all will see enhanced graphics - that is dependent on the resource pack used for each client and each person may view the world slightly different - SEUS/KUDA/Sildurs depending on OS/hardware). I realize that is likely an advanced question there for those with serious large adventure or creative worlds but the upgrades there, specifically the shaders can have a different impact for each person - since they will be on different hardware. Basically, I want to cross Windows/MacOS/Linux - I don't give a hoot if someone has Windows 10 or not but hopefully that version can connect.

I'd really like to get the Oceanlife mod working for my son. Does all of this make sense and can anyone give me any input as to the first and second questions on compatibility and impact/usage in a client/server model with different multiplayer clients (Windows/Mac)(I realize this is mods thread and I don't need help with multiplayer, just if anyone can still used these mods and how they affect each installation)?
