Hey Hey!!!, it worked! Congratulations on making your first post.

    >snip stuff< (Summary, don't like it. Bad.)

Fortunately, you do have the option of playing older versions of Minecraft and/or selectively not using features in the current version. If you don't like Honey Blocks because they make your 'incredibly complicated and elaborate Redstone machines' easier to build, then, but all means, keep your builds as complicated as you like. Just to give an example of how easy it is to not use something new; I have tried the new Soul Speed boots and don't really like them. Soul Speed III is actually annoyingly fast, and the change up from fast on soul sand to normal on other terrain can actually be hazardous around lava and cliff edges if you're not careful. Sooooo, I don't use Soul Speed boots. Simple! >whew< that's a relief because otherwise I've found the Nether updates to make the Nether a much more interesting place; interesting enough to now actually spend time there. Hopefully the Nether will get even MORE updates, particularly more biome diversity. Imagine if the Nether were as diverse as the Overworld? Double the worlds to explore. And even then; if you don't like it then simply stay out of the Nether. It's what I typically did before 1.16.

posted a message on You just fell in lava and died. What do you do?

    Cheats on, problem solved.

Cheats not on, accept it as part of the game. Respawn and move on. Or rage quit and start a new game. I suppose the choice will depend on how much you've invested into this world.

It >IS< important to remember that the process of acquiring items >IS< a part of the game. Thus, the need to reacquire a bunch of gear and possessions should be seen as a challenge and task to give you purpose in game.

Apologies for my naiveté, but why? Why not simply load the game in the older version to begin with? What possible advantage/challenge does this present?

posted a message on Beetroot Seeds 1.16?

You will get 0-3 seeds every time you harvest a fully mature beetroot. Minecart chests also frequently have beetroot seeds in them.

Personally, I would consider recasting the farmer until they offered wheat as a trade. Beets, carrots and potatoes are very inefficient trades.

posted a message on Found a geode on the surface of a 20w46a snapshot world

Very interesting. As a keen mineral collector and occasional mineral dealer, I find the addition of geodes to be most welcome. Clearly, the developers have taken inspiration from the large amethyst filled vesicles found in Brazil and Uruguay. Not sure what a 'bud' is; 'crystal' or 'point' would probably be a better term. And hopefully they'll tighten up the generation algorithm as geodes forming in icebergs make no sense.

I don't usually load snapshots but am very much looking forward to this next release.

    Thanks for sharing.

EDIT: Just read up on 'budding amethyst'. I understand what the developers are trying to convey but the term still seems odd. I would suggest amethyst 'core' or 'seed' as a better term. To me, 'budding' suggests an organic association. 'Seed' might also suggest something organic, but there is precedence for the usage of 'seed' in the literature in mineral systems. Additionally, 'amethyst cluster' should be sufficient for all stages of crystal growth; just drop the term 'bud' for stages 1-3.

posted a message on Java 1.16: new worlds have too many ravines

I've been playing a new world the past few days, (1.16.3), and was getting the same vibe about ravine creation. Overall, this world feels very 'jagged', with, seemingly, more ravines, more collapsed terrain, more dramatic features, (floating islands and other odd formations). Truthfully, I suspect it is nothing more than sample bias as I've only seen a tiny slice of this world, (or any Minecraft world for that matter).

Lovely pictures. What resource pack and shader you are using?

I was wondering the same thing. The highlights are nearly blown; it hurts the eyes. Hopefully the contrast is adjustable; the shading is nice otherwise.

The portion of the ship with the treasure map chest is well intact though the room itself is filled with sand blocks. I think I dug out a grand total of about 20 blocks to reveal the chest. It's quite an exaggeration to call it an excavation; you'll do much more digging to get your first dozen iron ore blocks.

It's a large stronghold. The lower wing to the right of the main intersection is the bulk of it and it's too big to dig out like that.

I was going to call it a large stronghold but didn't want to over commit, (I've seen a few really BIG strongholds), until I had explored all of it. A large stronghold will take time to unearth for sure but it is very doable. The last large stronghold I unearthed was under mesa terrain with the surface at Y=90, meaning a third more material to remove. This one seems almost a dawdle with surface at Y=63. Having buildings appear just under the surface is also very motivating.

Current progress. Note, I've expanded largely to the N and E. Also note portal room is fully exposed. Exploring underground suggests at least a medium sized stronghold. The stronghold spans all the way to bedrock; lowest level I've explored so far has a floor at Y=5.

Will continue to dig as a stepped pit for a few days more at least.

Nice, I knew of the village and shipwreck but not the treasure. Cool find!

If you found the shipwreck how did you not find the treasure? There's a treasure map in the shipwreck........

Wow, you sure took the time to excavate that so neatly.

Thanks, but.... how else are you going to excavate a stronghold? Dynamite? Waste of time for removing anything but dirt/sand/sandstone and even then it leaves a messy terrain that is difficult to navigate.

A stepped pit allows for quick access in and out of the digging area. As the pit gets bigger, conversion to a sheer walled pit with one or more staircases/ladders/scaffolding become more efficient.

So, how would >you< do it?

posted a message on Uncovered stronghold.

I've just begun exploring this seed; here's a couple more noteworthy features:

    - There's a shipwreck a very short distance to the NW of spawn. The shipwreck is in very shallow water making it easy for the newly spawned player to salvage. Emeralds, iron and treasure map to be found. Buried treasure is not far away either, yielding more emeralds and iron plus a bit of cooked fish. Better tools and immediate food needs met. Nice.

    - There's a village within viewing distance of the surface stronghold. It's a decent sized village and it's close but not too close proximity will make it a very useful resource while exploring the stronghold. Put those newly acquired emeralds to use. Have yet to discover whether the stronghold undermines the village.
