posted a message on Build at spawn or Adventure?

If conditions are favorable and attractive I might setup a base at spawn but that is rare. Most often I only spend a few nights in a temporary base at spawn while gathering together basic survival necessities. Then I'm off to explore. I may explore many maps before I find a location interesting enough to inspire a 'permanent' build.

Excavate a stronghold. That should keep you busy for a while.

I like the idea of bees, But Mojang needs to attempt to remake the idea.

posted a message on My friend gets sick while play and we don't know why.

The problem is known as vertigo. I was quite surprised to feel it when I first began playing Minecraft. Over time the feeling as gone away, partly out of confidence in my own actions, (I don't fall anywhere near as often as I used to), partly because my mind now knows it is just a game, (falling doesn't have real world consequences). Widening the field of view, as suggested above, might help. I have my FOV set to 80 which reduces panning while still maintaining a relatively natural FOV.

posted a message on Which is your favorite MINECON cape?

Quite honestly, none of them are of interest because I exclusively play Minecraft in first person mode and thus would never notice a change in skin beyond the appearance of my forearms. However, I am fascinated that other players presumably play in 3rd person mode. I've always found it rather disorienting but I'm sure one could get used to any of the three viewpoints.

You are 'Using' the horse with an empty hand, right? Make sure you have an empty quick slot, and that quick slot is the one selected when you try to mount the horse.

posted a message on Should I be exploring? Not sure...

What you are describing sounds very much like my early games. You are exploring and learning right now, albeit on a newbie level. Eventually you will feel you have explored and learned as much as possible from your local environment and then you can venture further.

The advise above to dig deeper is good, as it does open the possibility of finding diamonds, (among other things), which can potentially take your game to the next level. But that is entirely up to you. You may still be discovering new stuff around most every corner at this stage, so the 'need' for diamonds or to move beyond your immediate home may not yet be necessary.

When I first discovered Minecraft, I played for several weeks without knowing about maps or villages or diamonds or horses and a great many other things. I had a blast as everything was new and each new find, (wool, flowers, fishing rod, etc.), opened up new things to explore and learn about the game. I encourage you to enjoy your time as a newbie in Minecraft, you'll never get it back.

posted a message on Minecraft has lost it's direction badly

Why are you complaining about BE features on the Java forum?

Regardless, your feeling that Minecraft now sucks is yours and yours alone. You can not bully other players into accepting your opinion if they truly feel otherwise. If the magic in the game is lost for >you<, that is your own issue to deal with but I can assure you I am enjoying the game immensely. I thought the 1.14 villager update was a huge improvement that only added to my enjoyment of the game. 1.15 has brought nothing negative. I still haven't fully incorporated bees and bee production into my play style but I can't see anything within 1.15 that has ruined the game.

I would suggest stepping away from Minecraft for a bit. Get out there and play something else. When the urge to revisit unmodded Minecraft returns to you, then jump back into the game. I bet it will feel exciting again.

posted a message on (dis)orientation in the Nether
    Quote from GeoFor»

E-W versus N-S is not a problen, Unless you create the portal yourself, this has no meaning as the program will try to make a portal near to the equivalent position in the nethe and, depending on local terrain, it may be either orientation.

After my first entry to the nether where I can't control it, I make a potal in the overworld first, but do not enter it , and then go to the nether in the equivalent location, after entering from another portal, and make a portal, and go through it to connect them. This way, you can control their orientation, I prefer E-W for mine.

Thank you, that's the answer I was looking for. I did a bit of further testing and it confirmed that once an orientation is established

in the Nether, you can then reliably figure out 'N' or 'E'. It is only that initial orientation that seems to be scrambled, (in my case,

I entered facing 'E' but arrived in the Nether facing 'N'.

    Cheers

posted a message on (dis)orientation in the Nether

I've been playing Minecraft for a year now, but up until this point it has all been played in the Overworld. Last night I decide it was time to explore the Nether. I did a bit of reading about the Nether and understand the lack of orientation while in the Nether. But I was surprised that my portal was not oriented with my portal in the Overworld.

I created a portal in the overworld oriented E-W. I entered the portal facing due east. When I emerged into the nether I exited the portal and proceeded to build a tunnel in the same direction I had been facing. I continued that tunnel for 150 blocks, then build another portal. When I entered the second portal I was very surprised to return to the overworld 1200 blocks north of my starting location rather than 1200 blocks to the east.

Is this typical? Is there anyway to assure that when I enter I travel East when I want to travel East?

posted a message on Bad Seeds

What defines terrible for you? I reject tons of seeds while searching for ideal maps using Amidst. For me,

a good map will have a broad biome diversity in a 2000 block radius around spawn. Ideally there will be a village

nearby spawn. Beyond that I'm often looking for something very specific, so even potentially good seeds are ignored,

(sometimes saved for later). Each seed presents a unique world with unique challenges.

I haven't had a chance at beekeeping yet but you might have to consider a greenhouse or other structure to keep them in? I wonder if they dip into the water because of ai and take damage? =( I hope you can solve the problem soon!

That's not a bad idea..... It would be a rather large enclosure to contain the entire grove. Or I can reconfigure to a tidier Bee enclosure..

posted a message on Frustrating Bees

I'm playing a new world now that 1.15 has been released. I have collected two bee nests and have relocated them to my village. The village is in Desert biome and borders Ocean biome. I have created a small grove within the village with grassland, trees and flowers.

I have begun to breed the bees, but periodically one will fly out over the ocean and disappear. I finally watched a pair of bees as they flew out over the water. Both were laden with pollen. Both periodically dipped into the water and back out. Occasionally I would see the bees flash red as they suffered suffocation damage from being submerged. They kept doing this, in and out of the water, until finally one then the other bee expired.

Any one else notice such behavior? How can I keep my bees, 1) in my village, 2) from going suicidal?
