Aren't we getting off-topic with all the ender chest stuff?

No, the facade is different, but functionality is the same -- exchange of goods between players.

Just thought about this, why not have ender chests be linked to the player unless that ender chest is named. If ender chest is named it's linked to other ender chests with the same name. This will allow 100s of trillions of different ender chest links.

I've been thinking more about your idea and now I love it even more.

    It's:

    1. Simple (crafting a chest is easier than breeding villagers or finding a village with a mailman).

    2. Future-proof and troll-proof. Like you said, the number of combos is in the trillions (even more than that, actually).

    3. Easy to use. What's easier than naming a chest on an anvil?

    4. Already has a payment associated with it (XP points and iron (for replace broken anvils) to rename chests).

    5. Super easy for Mojang to implement. Literally few lines of code.

    Love it!

    100% SUPPORT

Efficiency 5 isn't required for sand, or anything with a shovel. I believe it insta-breaks even with efficiency 3 on diamonds.

If you have 2 shulker boxes' worth, hit a desert for 5 minutes to get the required sand. You could empty dozens of deserts' worth in the time it would take to build your efficient creeper farm.

The point is that when you want to craft stacks upon stacks of TNT, sand is never the barrier to entry - it is the gunpowder. Anyone who has been playing a day can get a double chest of sand, getting a double chest of gunpowder is a massive undertaking.

You, my friend, are definitely not a guru. ))

I've built a creeper farm in one evening (and that includes the time it took me to conceal it (anarchy server with a limited 10k by 10k map; griefers abound) and spawn-block the caves with torches in the surrounding 169 chunks (the server I play on has a 6 chunk rendering distance).

In 1 week I've gathered ~60 shulker boxes of gunpowder even though I was afk at the farm no more than 4 hours a day. And that's not even the most efficient design out there; its simplicity is a trade-off.

Also, there IS a difference between ef3 and ef5 shovels. That comes from a person who has mined out a few deserts dry (no pun intended).

You seriously don't know what you're talking about.

If there was a renewable way to craft TNT, I could use it to spawn-proof the area around my wither skeleton factory real fast by blowing up all netherrack down to bedrock within the rendering distance instead of running around with half-slabs or buckets of lava. Even more relevant in overworld.

But for a typical dirt-house dweller everything is fine as it is, and Mojang will probably cater to them by releasing another cosmetic update instead of revamping the crafting system for the sake added industrial benefit for redstone engineers and high-level players. Because playing smart (by designing factories and automated systems) is a cardinal sin. Gotta play hard (and dumb) instead.

Oh well. I'm off to swing mah shovel. The sun is still high.

posted a message on New idea about changing the TNT crafting recipe

I don't play multiplayer in general very often, but I watch playthroughs and in servers with many people having lots of TNT is a recipe for disaster for everyone.

In general, if you can make TNT renewable, someone will eventually make it near-automatic, and there come in the ever-famous TNT cannons.

Mojang probably also has a morality aspect in it about giving people unlimited powerful weapons/machines. The dolphin argument was silly enough on its own, so let's not go there.

TNT cannon is a gimmick. It cannot be moved easily, rotated. It has no purpose outside of castle wars. If you are a griefer on a vanilla server, you won't use a TNT cannon from a distance. You'll search everything for valuables in person and then blow everything up in person.

If someone finds you on a vanilla server, few stacks of TNT will be enough to mess up any build you have. And that can be easily obtained in literally 3 minutes by mining sand with a shovel.

Enormous amounts of TNT are only usable for engineering projects. Griefing doesn't require much. And I haven't seen griefers building mega-farms. They are primitive creatures.

The gunpowder is the hard part of crafting TNT, not the sand. With an efficiency 4 shovel and a desert, you can fill an inventory of sand in about 5 minutes.

I don't see any advantage of making sand renewable for the sake of TNT. TNT itself is basically a mix of explosive and sand (to stabilize the explosive), so I think the current recipe makes more sense than the proposal.

Gunpowder is not hard at all to obtain.

I've built an automated creeper farm on a Vanilla server with over 3000 gunpowder/hour drop rate. That's almost two shulker boxes per hour. And that's not even the most powerful design.

Why efficiency 4 and not 5? You do know that it goes above 4, right?
But the point is to be able to eliminate manual labor and automate things. If we can automate gunpowder, then why not automate other ingredients for TNT?

You clearly have never played on a good old factions server... this will brake MP Minecraft in 2 seconds FLAT!

You clearly don't understand that we are discussing Vanilla Minecraft here.

Factions gameplay is based on plugins and as such the plugin makers can adjust any Vanilla mechanics they don't like for when they design an update in the future (if this suggestion ever gets implemented). Just like PvP servers adjust for 1.9+ PvP mechanics to make new versions on MC feel like a 1.8 version in terms of PvP.

    In one word, PvP.

How exactly is it going to affect PvP?

Nobody uses TNT in survival PvP anyway. Perhaps, you're thinking about minigames like Hunger Games and Skywars. You can throw a pre-ignited TNT at enemies there, but not in Vanilla Survival.

Putting a TNT block down, lighting it up -- all while hoping the opponent is nice enough not to turn you into minced meat while you're engaging in this nonsense -- and then politely asking your opponent to walk into said ignited TNT -- have you ever even PvP'd in Minecraft?

I disagree. With this new recipe you could mass produce game braking amounts of TNT. You can easily farm gun power with mob farms mixed with item sorters... paper is SUPER easy to farm... Again sting is the same... mob farms and item sorters... PLUS spider spawners...

    "Game braking"?
Did you mean to say "game breaking"?

How would that break the game exactly?
What's wrong with having access to renewable TNT and being able to clear away land mass for construction projects? What's wrong with being able to advance technologically into a state of might and prosperity?

But if you can find water with sugarcane that fast, can you not find sand as easily, too? After all, that water most likely has a lot of sand in it.

Yeah, but sand is not renewable or auto-farmable. The point is to be able to make a fully-automated TNT factory so that massive amounts of TNT for construction projects could be obtained without having to swing a shovel. Gunpowder can be auto-farmed/ So can be sugarcane and string. But not sand.

Not thousands simultaneously, but over time, as players rotate, they will run out of combinations. And some people might troll and create multiple accounts to make that happen faster. I play on a server with an online of ~30 people on the Survival part of the server at any given moment. The pool of people who have ever played and used the ender chest might be easily in the thousands (the total userbase is about 12-15k of active players across all minigames). Plus, I think, your system is too complex for an average player.

    Quote from CannonFoddr»

Actually there are ways to sort through Stackable & non-stackable items..
One way is to have all non-stackable go into a chest on the end of filter systems although I'm sure I've seen a method that can sort multi non-stackable items .

    Edit found one :

I partially agree though to a 'filter' block of sorts.. perhaps a type of block/halfslab that goes above a standard hopper with a GUI slot for 1 item

    - If the item passes over the block matches the one in the item slot - then it gets 'sucked down' into the hopper below

There's no way to sort non-stackable items. There are complicated sorters for armor and weapons using zombies, but that's only for armor and is very unreliable and low throughput.

Other than that, if you know of any ways to sort boats from music disks, for example, I'm all ears.

If finding sand is such a hassle, what about finding sugarcane for a farm or the paper? Or perhaps even finding a mineshaft or a spider in the first place? Finding mobs in the first day is very hard, and it only gets easy after 10-14 days of in-game play. Gunpowder is hard to get without a spawner, and sugarcane is hard to find before making a proper farm. Most multiplayer servers have rules against TNT, and the same servers have the farms for the materials. This cycle will most likely round it out.
Edit: Not a direct attack in anyway, shape, or form. I have a habit of trying to sound "Mature" by getting a bit aggressive. All was meant to be a constructive take on your inputs.

Finding sugarcane is ridiculously easy. What are you talking about? It's literally everywhere where there is a body of water. I was testing a new snapshot of MC: I spawned in a brand new world naked and within minutes I found sugarcane and within hours I've built a fully automated sugar cane farm.

Mineshafts with spider spawners are extremely abundant as well. Use X-Ray or go into spectator mode and you'll see that there's hardly a spot within loaded chunks free of abandoned mineshafts with spawners. You can literally find one within hours if you just dig in a random direction at 20-30 altitude.

    I SUPPORT it.

This would allow to automate production of TNT which would allow massive engineering projects.
TNT is not that powerful at removing blocks, especially hard ones (stone, ender stone, etc. -- only removes about 8 blocks of those per 1 TNT). Having to dig 4 sand blocks for 1 TNT kinda defeats its purpose.

Right now TNT is more of a gimmick than a real tool.

Being able to make it automatable to manufacture would make TNT actually useful.

Item filters/Item sorters already exist as buildable redstone contraptions.

But you can only sort stackable items. It'd be nice to have a hopper with a filter so that we could sort non-stackable items as well.
