So I feel that I have a decent grasp on Java and I would really like to understand how Minecraft works (so I could make mods). I have the decompiled Minecraft code from the MCP guys ready to go but I don't have a sense on where to start. Does anyone have any good knowledge or know of resources about how I should start? I feel that I need to wrap my head around what actually goes on within Minecraft and how it all happens in order to properly mod the game. Thank.

I'm a 16 year old guy living on the east coast of the US. I'm a pretty easy-going, friendly kind of guy who enjoys hanging out and playing with friends. I like playing video games, mostly Minecraft, soccer and football (sorry for being so American) with friends (I'm usually a wide receiver), and going out with my girlfriend. Me and my friends have recently found this game called Spikeball. We bought a Spikeball set and it has defintely been worth it. Just check it out on youtube (it will blow your mind). I have good grades and school and I'm going to be a junior in high school in September. Every Friday, I vollunteer at a local hospital for a few hours. It's alright, but I find computers and programming more interesting. I enjoy the game of Minecraft very much and have been playing since Beta 1.6. I also follow the Mindcrack community closely and enjoy watching they're progress on their servers.
Why do you want to join the server, and why do you think you should be chosen?
I want to be part of this server because I've always wanted to be apart of a nice community of great people who want to play Minecraft and have fun. While I do like to have fun, I am also very mature. In addition, I am also a dedicated Minecrafter and will do what I can to improve the community as a whole. I think I should be chosen because of my decent building and good redstone skills, as they can come in handy in a multiplayer server and because I will do anything in my power to make this server a better place, whether it is through a better-looking spawn or shops or even harmless pranks. I'll be there for any server-wide events, like PvP fights or possibly a game of UHC? Haha that would be great.
How long have you been playing Minecraft, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I have been playing since Beta 1.6 and I still haven't lost interest. The best part about Minecraft is that the community is always improving and that new additions and changes are constantly being made. I also find that redstone, an abundance of different blocks, and the thrill of caving makes it an incredibly fun game that will never become boring.
What do you consider to be your Minecraft talents?
I think my PvP Skills and redstone abilities are my best Minecraft talents. I often find myself on other servers playing Survival Games and a group of my friends also enjoy playing UHC. It's a game created by the Mindcrackers where the only way to heal oneself is through golden apples or instant health potions. It's incredibly competitive and lots of fun. I also enjoy opening creative worlds and find that I am able to improve known designs of many common redstone creations. I also have a few of my own. Although my buildings skills aren't great, with time and the right blocks, I can definitely make buildings and structures that look appealing.
What other survival Minecraft have you played (singleplayer or multiplayer) and for how long?
As I said, I play some UHC occasionally and have been for a long time. I used to play on a Minecraft survival server hosted by one of my friends, but it caused issues within his own Internet. It must've taken a toll on the bandwidth and his parents stepped in. Anyway, we played for almost two months and I loved it. I also play on a Crackpack (mod pack) server and I am also enjoying my time there too.
How often will you be online if you are accepted (This should be how frequently you will play long term)?
I will be on for at least an hour a day, everyday. If I have a lot of schoolwork, I may not be able to make it but I will try to the best of my ability.
