A stone button sends a temporary signal. I propse that a stone button is added to the list of things that can activate redstone; just as there are stone and wooden pressure plates that act slightly differently.
A wooden button would be crafted with two wooden plank slabs (because two wooden planks would craft sticks).
A wooden button would send a signal that stays active four ticks longer than a stone button. This way when you are trying to open iron doors the door will stay open long enough for you to enter easily, where as with stone buttons the door closes rather quickly.
I know my comment will be unoriginal but still- this is THE BEST golem suggestion EVER. You have my support.
EDIT: When I tried to put your banner in my signature it had the url in text and the picture couldn't be clicked as a link to your page. Is that normal?
I've done alot of balancing this morning. Please occasionally come back to this thread and tell me what you think as I will coninue to update this thread. My focus is that being evil would be "the easy way" but is much less rewarding. If you see any problems with my balancing or have any suggestions of your own that can make it better please let me know.
It looks better than yesterday. But it never hurts to expand an idea. Keep up the good work!
My idea is simple straightforward and to the point.
At the same rate zombies drop iron, tools, and armor and the rate at which skeletons drop bows and sometimes enchanted bows creepers will occasionally drop diamonds (and even more rarely diamond armor or tools) upon death.
Your idea is much better presented and much more well organized then the previous.
And you're right. You really shouldn't have bumped. I hate to be a jerk but personally if its not getting bumped through natural comments then the idea just isn't for Minecraft. The forum doesn't lie. Mostly.
But still I support your idea. I would like to see more added though.

Gold is used to make the brewing ingredient glistering melon.
Gold is actually a pleasent looking decorative block if used properly.
Clocks are helpful underground so you don't accidentally surface at night surrounded by monsters and caught off guard.
Gold is used for powered rail tracks.
Gold is used for golden apples (which are incredibly helpful).
