This is the first time I've applied for a multiplayer server. I'm just looking for the multiplayer version of singleplayer, so I can help build and mine with others.
If you are thinking of creating a safe room in say, a Multiplayer server, then no amount of obsidian is going to keep people out. Curiosity is a part of human nature, and if someone were to find a large, obsidian construction that so much as implied a hidden room, they would find a way in. The best safe room is a hidden safe room. You could try a painting-lined hallway in you home with a door behind one of the paintings, or something else clever.
I think says it all. There is no way to make an impenetrable building because someone will find a way in. The only way to keep people out is to hide it very, very well. Doors can be broken, all blocks can be broken, and creating an air bubble under water just requires 2 reeds. Lava can be held up with most blocks, Obsidian can eventually be mined through, so unless you want to make a room with 60 block thick obsidian walls ( which would maybe deter someone just due to the length of time required to get in) than hide it deep underground.
Another idea that just came to me as I was writing this....
Hide it in the air.
1. Build floating island.
2. Cover bottom and sides with white wool to disguise as a cloud.
3. ???????????
4. Profit!
A small floating island, way up high away from everything else, that looks like an unmoving cloud, might get past most peoples attention.
I noticed paintings will duplicate themselves if you just keep putting one up and then taking it down. I was trying to get a specific painting up once, so I just kept taking it down until I got the right one, and suddenly I had 3 paintings in my inventory instead of just one.
