The Nether seems very empty, and needs to be expanded on. I have just thought of an idea for a new Nether biome that would make the Nether more deadly. The Doom.
The Doom would be pretty rare, but would be huge. It would be very large, and would be made out of Netherstone. (Explained later.) It would be full of deadly Nether mobs, and maybe some new ones. It would be made of giant mountains, and have a large almost bottomless pit. It would be darker than most areas in the Nether, but will have a few lavafalls.
Netherstone looks just like regular stone, be has a more pale brown color.
Mobs:
Skeleton, and a new skeleton spider. Skeleton spiders would be just like normal spiders, but apply the Wither effect on you when bitten. Another new one would be a gremlin. A gremlin would be small, (one block tall,) and come in many different colors including: Red, orange, black, yellow, and brown. Gremlins would have 10 hearts.
Gremlins would be passive unless provoked. Gremlins would be in every part of the Nether. When attacked, they grow 3 blocks tall, grow sharp teeth, their eyes go red, their color gets darker, and their arms grow bigger and have claws. They would be super fast and do 2 hearts of damage. They can be tamed with cookies, and will be like wolves and attack any mob you attack.
The doom is a bunch of parkour moubtains on top of a bottomless pit basically. But the Doom is more dangerous than that..
Very rarely in the Doom biome, the Keeper's Hold spawns. I have a picture of it at the bottom. The Keeper's Hold would be made out of Netherstone, (Netherstone fire never burns out.) There is a door made of stone bricks and quartz. Break that, and your inside a hallway with lava at the bottom. In the very center of the Hold, is a giant room made of obsidian and glowstonr. It has a 64 block long pit. In the middle is a bedrock platform. In the center is a treasure chest. If you open it, it will awake the Keeper of the Nether. Inside the chest is a diamond. Once it awakens, it will fly up, roar at you, and start attacking. (The Keeper's Hold goes into the wall of the Doom biome. The center is 100 blocks long, 100 blocks tall)
The Keeper is around 20 blocks tall, and it breaks blocks like the Enderdragon. It has big black horns, and big green eyes that glow as bright as Glowstone. Whenever it opens its mouth, there is the green light. It breathes out green fire at you.
It is mostly bone-like with wings and big giant hands. It is about the color of Netherstone.
It has 150 hearts and can do 30 damage with its fire, and 40 damage by crushing you with its hand.
Once defeated, it will explode in a green light and drop a chest with 10-20 emeralds, 20 bones, and a Green Torch. A green torch is like a regular torch, but is green. You can also use it to shoot green fire which can do 10 damage. However, it has the durability of a wood tool.
The Keeper of the Nether would only spawn at the bottom of the Keeper's Hold.
If you have any suggestions, please tell me!
=Doom would be a whole other dimension.
=Keeper of the Nether be less than 50 blocks tall.

You will have to hold shift in order to do so. It's to be able to place a block on a sign without activating a clickEvent stored on the sign, which would do so if you right-clicked without shifting. -

The reason for mods, are so you can have things that don't fit in minecraft. Like guns and cars. I don't want those things in minecraft.
Not necessarily; what if you wanted the customized world type to be more customizable than it already is (you can enable/disable specific structures but can't make then more/less common, bigger/smaller, etc; if I had the source for 1.8 I could add in custom caves and stuff like that, which I even did for Superflat)? And what about all the mod stuff that has been added (horses being the first that comes to mind)? Not all mods are about guns and cars; my own mods sure don't have those silly things!
Not that I'm agreeing with the OP, but modders can certainly help improve the game, such as actually optimize it (the latest snapshots run like crap for me despite the recent so-called "optimizations", each of which makes it worse instead). -

The only three things I actually like about the 1.8 update is the Sea Temples/ Guardians, the banners, and the different wood fences and doors. Everything else is pointless/has no use for me.
