1. You only need to portforward your ports with your ipv4 address provided in the ipconfig in CMD, you do not port forward with your external ip address
2. No server ever unless on a private network uses any sort of ipv6 for port forwarding right now, don't worry about ipv6 at all
If your friends can't join your server be sure you give them the proper address from whatsmyip or something similar and make sure you have your port forward rules enabled in the router config and make sure you saved them; aswell as used the proper ipv4 address
You connect through localhost but your friends or other users use the external ip address
Thanks for that. Just so you know, the problem i'm facing is that i can connect with the localhost/ local ipv4, but i cant connect with the external ipv4, and im unsure why. i wanted to make sure that you didn't need to port forward your external ipv4.
I've been having some issues with hosting my server. I have checked, and seen that i can connect to my server via the local ip address. I have gone onto my router website, accessed it, and have done the TCP/UDP 25565 port along with doing my local ipv4 address. I have also done it with the firewall with the same local ipv4 address.
I have started to test my external ip address, but i am unable to connect. I have 2 questions in mind. Note that i have gone to whatismyipaddress.com and have gotten my external ipv4 address.
1. Do i have to do the whole port forwarding process with my external ip address? (doing the tcp/udp 25565 port thing in both the router website/control panel and firewall)?
2. Will it work if I do the same thing with my external ipv6 address?
So I have port forwarded through my computer using 25565, and i figured i needed to port forward the external ip. I port forwarded my external ip and tried it. It WORKED! But when i tried to get others to connect, they said connection timed out. Anyone know why?
-Maybe you have a firewall on the server. Or something else blocking things (anti-virus, malware-blocker, etc)
-Maybe you just got one of the numbers wrong. Triple-check your internal and external IP address, and the port forwarding settings. Post a printscreen of it here.
-Maybe a device between him and you is blocking something. Could be your hub, could be his. Could be something at the ISP- which is a bit unlikely, but it does happen; you could call your ISP and ask if they block incoming requests on that port.
Are you running the server on the same computer you use to play? If so, can you direct-connect to it on 127.0.0.1 ?
I have port forwarded the TCP and UDP with my ipv4. On the website you used, it showed a different ip, which was 69.181.(@.!)! (blurted out last 2 groups of numbers for privacy). Do i have to port forward THOSE?
Then contact Mojang to help further, there is nothing anyone else can do as NO ONE but Mojang can look at account information
On the mojang website, you need the email associated with the mc account to contact them, so i dont know what to do. This is why im asking for help here
What if the Email associated was deleted? I remember a Yahoo email was used, and my brother (the creator of the account) hasn't used it in more than a year, thus being the Yahoo email being deleted.

As simple as that, I wish to know that, since I have forgotten to email associated with my account, slugger35.
