I think you're going to have to wait for a response from the email you sent to Mojang. The people on this message board can't really help you with the problem as it's a problem with the company site.
Sounds like you have a confusing mess here. I'm not 100% sure I understand what you mean, but here's what I know about nether portals.
When you come out of the netherportal and it creates one near your spawn have you tried destorying the other ones and using the one near spawn as your main portal?
So after having a look at my video card the fan was clogged with dust and not spinning anymore hence the overheating. I pulled that fan off and put on a new fan that I had lying around.
Played minecraft for a while without a crash so I think this was my problem. Good luck to anyone else having this problem.
I had this problem after upgrading when I had an incompatible texture pack. Maybe try removing all your texture packs/mods by deleting the bin folder and restarting minecraft to re-download.
I'm having the same issue too. I'm on my computer all day for work and never have a problem but it never fails to restart automatically after just 10 minutes (or so) of playing minecraft.
The weird thing is it was working fine and then all of a sudden it just stopped.
I just updated my video card drivers as ATI released some new drivers, but after putting those in I still had it restart on me.
I also turned off Automatic Restart hoping to see some blue screens to help debug the issue but even after turning that off it still just restarts... :sad.gif:
As I am typing this post I thought of checking the Event Viewer and I was greeted with 81,854 entries complaining about the graphics card overheating.
Hmm, well I guess I have somewhere to look for myself and maybe this will help someone else... I'll do some digging and if I come across the cause of the overheating I'll post here again.

When you say I tried the exe and the jar does that mean that you tried playing through the website?

I did have trouble with my cards as well (Visa/Mastercard) so I just ended up using Paypal and this worked smoothly for me.
