Correction, x3nophob3 wrote it, pahimar maintained it, but is now (pretty much) writing EE3 from scratch.

Correction, is entirely writing it from scratch, code wise at least. A mixture of the change from 1.2.5 to 1.3.2 and wanting to completely rework the mod.

Back to the discussion of the mod.

I actually like the concept of "sacrificing" villagers or other mobs as a way to create the philosopher stone. Now I do think the stone itself will have an actual recipe, but what if a way to keep it "powered" was sacrificing.

More over, there has been the talk of transmutation circles, but nothing revealed about them yet. They were briefly mentioned on the stream. I like the idea (and this may fit with the possibility of "types" of EMC) that each transmutation circle has different aspect that either have different consequences of use, or used for different transmutation of materials.

By the sound of it the author of MultiMC worked on or very closely with the FTB launcher author (never having used the former nor terribly needful of the latter), certainly FTB launcher is aimed at people who would until now have gone for the Tekkit/Technic packs in the past, and or for people who have zero clue about mods. From recent (spoken) comments by an unnamed (to me) person on Slow's stream I'd say that for those those who already do use MultiMC you will be able to load a FTB modpack in to that rather than use their launcher.

I do think to a certain degree, FTB is aimed at those who have no clue how to install mods and such. However, I have used it simply for the ease of it. I can maunally install all the mods myself, distribute to my friends and family that play on a server together, or I can simply tell them to download FTB, and that is all I have to do. The other thing is FTB has the backing of the Mod developers, so you think it may force them to work together to a certain degree and improve the over all experience of the game. The FTB launcher also has the purpose of making it easier to install and play the Feed the Beast challenge Maps, which I think the original intent was.

Also, yes, the FTB current has a 1.2.5 version modpack meant for the original FTB challenge Map, and yes, it has the 1.2.5. version of redpower2

So in the meantime, I'll be messing around with the FTB challenge map, and playing a little bit of redpower until the 1.4.4 version comes out.

well, quite frankly, because as you said, they're not equivalent, coal is for coal coke as well as the uses of normal coal thus meaning it's EMC is slightly higher.

and.... well i agree to some extent on the minium stones thing, but i'm not really sure if we're really intended to use the minium stone for much beyond cobble gens, basically free energy/EMC source, except you have to craft the item up and it has durability, i think the actual "equivalent" exchanges that you're thinking of will probably use the philo or the calcinator or something else that we haven't seen implemented yet.

I see the Minium Stone as just a tier 1 item. I think it is something that is mainly for early game use. The cost of 4 iron and 1 gold isn't that high, especially comparing it with the cost of weapons, armor, and other items that have damage value in vanilla and from other mods. It serves it's purpose as basic way to transmute items from one to another for early game use. The philospher stone I think will end up being either an mid-game or end-game version of the stone.

I'd like to think it's a way to 'dynamically prevent overpowered combos'.

Yeah, pretty much how I think it will be. I remeber someone who looked through the source on github saying there were different "types" of EMC. I think this would be a neat way to add variety to the mechanics of of the mod. It does sound similar to the aspects TC3 intends to implement, but I think this is a good approach to attempt game balance for the mod, as well as add value to different type of items

I mentioned it before, and was rebuked by Pahimar himself, so I won't repeat myself. But I stated a valid, logical reason for people expecting so :P

Yes, but I wouldn't say any of these arguments have used logical reason to make their case. Honestly I'm tired of hearing about the same complaints over and over again. As I said earlier, it's a good opportunity considering the mod is being re-worked completely, that we can actually give thought out suggestions that may influence some aspects of the mods, so why not focus the conversation to that?

So How about this, how do you guys think DynamicEMC will work? How do you think it should work?

Edit: And from this point, let's try to keep the topic focused, and ignore individuals that don't add anything constructive or worthwhile to the conversation.

I'm willing to bet none of the modders involved in tekkit have a problem with getting FREE advertisement in the form of youtube videos done by yogscast....When I first found out that tekkit even existed I was watching one of their videos. If I ever made a mod and people wanted to make some videos and attach ads to it I would have no problem with that. As long as credit is given to those who deserve it there is no problem. Also throwing serious accusations out there that yogscast are commiting crimes on par with the actions of Capone is slander...which happens to be a real crime that people get sued for all the time. At least yogscast isnt so petty as to sue the likes of you.

I was going to argue your comment on slander, but honestly, it's not worth it. I hope you realize it has nothing to do with getting "free advertising" for the mod, it's about the principal of taking material without permission. And by endorsing tekkit, it's called guilt by association, simply put. This argument is old though, and I'm tired of hearing about the joke known as tekkit.

On a different note, so has anyone found a use for the dusts that were added in? I played around with them for a short while and couldn't find anything interesting about them. Did I miss something or has their function just not been implemented? Their sprites are much prettier than covalence dust if that's what they're going to be analogous to :)

No use yet, I think the use will be implemented as of pre2, which will also add the calcinator and redwater back (and I think the Divining rods), which will be functional and the new way to get the Minium Stone. Pre2 should be out sometime this week/weekend. Although I'm totally guessing here, and just going off of what Pahimar said might happen.

Wow, you've screwed up real good. Removing red matter, dark matter, etc. Have you ever thought of tekkit? The thing that uses EE the most? What'll happen when all the other mods update and this one does and there is no redmatter items and such? And no condinsers either? They'll end up removing it and this mod will go down the drain in popularity.

Your comment about dark matter proves you have no idea what your talking about, and have failed to read anything in this thread. You also overestimate the influence "tekkit" has over the minecraft community. Tekkit is a joke, and pretty hated around here.

Plus as many others have said, the FTB mod pack launched yesterday and will contain EE3 when it is a little further along. This modpack actually has the respect of the community as the devolopers of the mod pack actually work with the mod developers. It broke 50,000 downloads within the first few hours of it's release yesterday, so please, they're will still be plenty of advertisement for this mod, if that even truly matters.

You know, it's pretty useless to argue whether EE2 was OP or not. Your not going to convince either side one way or the other. Plus EE2 is dead, gone, and buried, as stated by previous post, so move on.

I encourage you to take the time to read the post scattered throughout this thread discussing the new mechanics and items that will be present. I think you find the things you love will still be present in one form or another. If not, oh well, trust Pahimar in his vision, if you do not like it, move on. In the end, it's his mod, and he chooses to share it with us, end of story.

I'd prefer to move from the discussion that has taken place since the beginning of this thread. If you want to talk about something, how about discuss ideas or suggestions to add to the mod. That is constructive conversation. If you having coding skills, discuss an idea with us, maybe the community can help you approve upon it, and you can submit a pull request with coding to Pahimar and see what he thinks. However, the conversation of please bring back said move items or bring back said removed items and just change this mechanic is redundant. Pahimar has already said he has something in mind, and if not, oh well. Let's actually move the conversation forward.

I don't think you guys realize the position we're in. The mod is in a pre-release form and is an open source project (which means you could very well create addons). This is a time where if our ideas our discussed and well thought out enough, you could influence certain mechanics or items in the mod. I'll be the first to admit as an artist, I don't always want to hear feedback on my work, but sometimes, if it is actually constructive feedback, I take it into consideration and overall helps me improve my work. So just be smart about what you have to say.

Not even any sort of transmutation system (the most important part of the original)

If you have NEI, use (by default) the "U" key over the Minium Stone.... 71 pages of uses... for me at least as I have quite a few mods installed, and a few items in the mods seem to be in there.

And see that's just it, he and x3no have abandoned ee2. He states it himself in the 5-10 pages of the thread. Neither has any plans to either update it, or release it to the public for someone else to update it. As to the core mechanics those are even changing, no more lossless transmutations, no more everlasting philosopher's stone, several mainstay blocks removed. About the only similarity between this and EE2 is the fact that you're changing one thing into another, which is done in several other mods as well. The loss of the destruction catalyst/lens, he says DM will stay but who knows what it will look or act like, may be just in name only. Adding industrial/thaumcraft type dynamics to it, this is really going to be a whole new mod.

Yes, the mechanics are changing, but like I said, the idea of the mod is not. Plus, at the state the mod is currently in, it is way to soon to judge. The jump between the original EE and EE2 was massive, that changed the game mechanics of the mod drastically. EE3 goes back to the original idea of how the original EE was played. So at it's essence, this is very much still EE. Like I said, changing major game mechanics or adding and removing items is part of innovation, is a common practice in the gaming community, and doesn't mean the name of the mod should be changed just because EE3 (which you can think of as a sequel, and sequels often contain major changes) is not a direct port of EE2.

On a side note, not so sure the philosopher stone will have a damage value. I remember Pahimar talking about it in one of direwolf20's videos, and the major change will be the recipe, and some other things, but don't recall adding a damage value to it. The Philosphers stone is separate from the Minium Stone. As for the loss-less transmutation, I think that is speculation at this point, although I would welcome that change for an added value of difficulty.

    Is dark matter still in?

Trying again to get this thread.....somewhat.... on track.

RP2 elevator using only logic, no computer.
Callable from every floor, unfortunately because it is no-computer build you can only go up and down one floor from inside the elevator.
(So to get from bottom floor to top you need to press up from inside on every floor and vice-versa :( )

It was inside a building I cleared the building out to take a screen-cap.

Nice, I have always had issues with getting an elevator to work. I still have a lot to learn with redpower mechanics. When the next version is released, it will be the first thing for me to attempt.

SOTMead's LP on Forgecraft today (which usually is pretty current) shows RP2 timers cannot be turned with a screwdriver, not saying this is a significant bug, but it does show that more than just frames are broken

Truth is, we really don't have any idea what the status of redpower is. You can only ascertain so much information from a video on youtube, or a stream. It would be nice to have a little more of a direct update from Elo, but that is her prerogative. And to be honest, the way the community reacts sometimes (although I would say this pertains mostly to the younger players, I've noticed you can guess the age of a poster based on their post, and usually only younger players post their age) I don't blame her.

    ? :Diamond:

At the very least read a few pages back to see what Pahimar plans to implement, and at the very least wait until the actual full release to comment whether you like this version or EE2 better.

    Quote from Zexks

He should really change the name to eliminate the idea from people that this will somehow be a successor. It's really an entirely new mod, with vague similarities.

Well, even in the game industry, when mechanics are changed, or items are taken out in lue of new items, they often retain their titles. For instance you could argue that the Zelda franchise drastically changes from sequel to sequel (or succesor) with vague similarities between games. The general idea of gameplay is kept, but items you may have loved are no longer present. I would say it is the same situation with this mod. The core idea of the mod is still present, however the mechanics are altered and items have been dropped in lue of other items. From what Pahimar has discussed so far, the idea of EE is and will be very much present, the way you acheive those goals is what will be different. Sequels and successors are suppose to contain new innovation or differentiation of game mechanics, it's how a franchise grows.

    Quote from ZeroLinkYoshi

So wait why is pretty much everything removed? without condensers it's not even equivalent exchange anymore!

So if there not removing everything why are they starting over?

Why did you quote yourself? Read the post in this forum, this has been answered over and over again.

Edit: Plus, I don't see what is so difficult to grasp the concept of a pre-release?

Not going to answer your question, but I will say this is a pre-release of a separate mod from EE2. This is not an update of EE2. I suggest you go back and read the forum post. Your not correct in your statement and will find the correct information as it has been stated over and over again many times in this forum.

EDIT: PRE being the key word here. Use google, and look-up what a pre-release of a game, mod, or product is.

    Sigh...

    Quote from GrammieFi

And the Onion guy promptly proves your point. Not all Americans refuse to read anything longer than 3 words. Some of us actually enjoy novels and stuff. This point however does nothing to negate your point.

Since Pahimar is removing condensers, collectors and red matter, and replacing the mechanics of EMC collection with something that he's not yet ready to explain I guess the "I don't read anything longer than the title of things" crowd is panicking because they simply can't imagine what could be better. Personally, I think they need to work on developing a better imagination.

It seems to be the newest generation that lack the attention span to read more than four words really... creating a or updating a FAQ to all the question that have been re-answered every few post may not even do anything, as it seems a majority of people fail to even read much of the OP. You'd also think with a game like minecraft, if they need to work on developing a better imagination, what the hell do they do while they are playing?
