[*** WHAT IS BETTER THAN WOLVES? ***]
Better Than Wolves is a "total conversion". This differs from most mods that you are probably used to in that it changes many of the rules of play to provide a richer experience, rather than just adding in new stuff. What makes it special however, is that it always attempts to do so in a way that retains the original spirit of the game, perhaps even more so than the newer official releases.
It focuses both on challenging survival play, and player creativity in terms of never providing "magic block" solutions to in game problems. Instead, it provides basic tools and leaves it to the player to figure out how to use them to get the job done.
In short, Better Than Wolves is a vision of what Mincraft could have been, designed by a very serious player, for other like minded individuals.

once upon a time, before steve, before monsters, before the end, the world had 2 suns and 2 moons that didnt turn on the same speed. but on a certain day, one of the suns and one of the moons strayed to close to each other. what then happened is this: the sun and moon burst like an egg would, and a red dragon and a black dragon emerged from it. in the battle that followed, the red dragon flew into the earth and created a dimension filled with lava and red stone. however, just before his demise, he managed to use all the essence in him to banish the black dragon to a dimension as dark as his soul. there he rests even now.
so you see, the sun and moon are actually dragon eggs, and like the dragons, can move through everything. this way, the sun and moon move through the land of minecraftia and light it up. at day, the suns reign, animals come outside and plants grow. at night, the moons reign, monsters appear. and dread the day the sun and moon stray too close to each other again.

If so, then you're in the right place! This thread is aimed at thinking of and improving enchantments!
Notch did a great job on the enchantig table, but he left it unfinished. There are few enchantments you can get and enchanting is very random! Sure, not as random as in 1.8, but still very random. Now it's up to Jeb to finish it and improve the Enchanting Table.
Here is a list of enchantments i'd like to see added/improved:
(Almost) worked out enchantments:
- Fire Aspect [Weapon]
Yes, setting things on fire is cool, but how about instead of setting them on fire for a period of time, make the fire do an amount of damage over time, like on level 1 it would do 2 hearts in 3 secs, on level 2 it would do 3, and so on to 5! These changes would also apply to Flame, which also needs a better name.
- Frost Aspect/Shot [Weapon]
If we have something that sets things on fire, we need something to cool 'em down! This enchantment would apply a 'Frost' effect on mobs, which would slow their movements and attack. This enchantment would conflict with Fire Aspect, and they would cancel each others effect.
- Quickdraw [Bow]
An enchantments that decreases the time needed to draw a bow, which greatly improves the bow! This enchantment might conflict with Power, as to not make the bow OP.
- Unsnapping [Bow]
Basically the unbreaking enchantment but for bows.
- Dragonsbane [Sword]
Does 2/4/6 extra damage to the Ender Dragon, depending on the enchantment level.
- Blockade [Sword]
increases the damage reduction of parrying to 75%, and doing more damage if the number isn't round. (if normally 5, it would do 1.5, not 1)
- Running [Leggings] (needs better name)
increases sprinting speed when worn.
- Life-Steal [Sword]
Each hit has a chance to drain a portion of damage of your target and give it to you
- Counter [Sword]
Parries have a chance to do an automatic counterattack for 1.5x damage. Conflicts with Sharpness and Blockade
Ideas that need tweaking:
- Sharpshot [Bow]
When you hit a mob with your bow it gets stunned for 0.5 secs.
- Feather Hop [Boots]
increases jumpig height 0.5 blocks per level! level caps at 3.
- Earth aspect [Sword]
Strikes poison the target.
- Dark aspect [Sword]
Chance on strike to restore ten points of durability to the weapon, or an amount of points equal to half/a third of the damage dealt to the monster/player.
- Light aspect [Sword]
Enemies in close proximity take continuous damage. While the sword is out, the character gives off a light radius of 5 or above depending on enchantment level.
- Strength [Tools]
All mining/digging/chopping breaks a larger surface area around the target block; size would depend on enchantment level.
- Fortune
Tweaks it that all blocks mined have a chance to drop a random mineable resource, with the percentages being proportionate to the rarity of the respective items (this would be added to the current Fortune mechanic).
Please help by adding/improving idea's! all posts will be read and further discussed!

what if we have an enchant for the bow that slows any mob it hits?
The slow would be like a 33% slow for 2-4 seconds, so it wont be too over powered but still a nice enchant to have.
it would be called Frost Shot, and would not stack with Flame, and if a slowed mob gets set on fire (e.g Flame arrow) the slow would stop. this makes archers a great support in multiplayer and gives them a chance to get away in a sticky situation.

this isn't the usual 'xp-in-a-jar' idea, but you actually have to work for it and gives a use to diamond and gold block.
you can probably already guess what the idea is by now, and for those who dont,
Store EXP in diamond and gold blocks!
yes, you heard me. you can now put exp in gold and diamond blocks.
how would you do that you ask? well, you simply plop a diamond or gold block in an enchanting table, and then you can put exp in it.
that would be 10 levels for a gold block, and 20 for a diamond block. you can only store the levels if you have enough, so no 15 levels enchantments.
this way, you would be able to keep your levels when dying and still not be overpowered.
of course, the blocks would not be un-craftable in enchanted form, and to regain the levels, just put it in the enchanting table again and you'll instantly regain them.
i think this is a good idea and am curious to hear your suggestions.
