And yeah, it does seem better to use pre-dug mineshafts, caves and ravines than branch mine since 1.8. I kind of appreciate that I have more of a reason to explore caves, but I don't appreciate that the other option has been so incredibly diminished.

    Agreed.

I'm all for new features and notch etc. taking the game where they really wanted/want it to go - but it seems this has been largely at the expensive of diamond, which were pretty rare to begin with.

But maybe i'm not used to it yet and i'm just whinging because I've been looking for diamonds for about 6ish hours and only found 3 :sad.gif:

    lol

Got to agree. I don't give a damn about diamonds, I even made a thread on it a while back. It caused some controversy. From a statistical standpoint, Iron is much more efficient.

No because, correct me if I am wrong, Diamond mines faster than Iron.

I hate wasting my time! Looks like i'm going to have to keep doing it :sad.gif:

Is it just that one world? Create a new world, just to test if diamond rates went down. It ciuld be you just got a low diamond seed. And I agree with you, especially ravines can replace diamond seeds.

There's an idea. I'll try out a test later tonight.

Diamonds are **** easy to find. if you find a huge under ground ravine that goes to layer 12 look uo on the walls there are diamonds. (:

You haven't answered any of my questions.

posted a message on Diamond harder to find?
I haven't been playing 1.8 that long - I waited till Mojang officially released it, and I still haven't found too much time to waste on it just yet. But the time that I have wasted on it so far, has mostly been spent resource gathering/in the mines.

With that said, Is anyone else finding diamonds harder to find since 1.8?

My usual method was to dig down to Y=16.6, and then branch mine. It worked so well, that I used to be able to dig down to that level and dig straight until finding my first diamond.

But with all this new 'stuff' around, I have only found 3 diamonds so far. You dig straight and usually pretty quickly end up in an abandoned mine. In all the mines I've cleared so far, no diamonds were poking out of the walls inside an abandoned cave. It seems to me they are taking up space where my diamonds used to be. (BUT IT IS PROBABLY MORE LIKELY I WAS JUST QUITE LUCKY IN MY EARLY DIAMOND EXPEDITIONS)

    So tl;dr two things:
    1) is it harder to find diamond since 1.8
    2) is there a more efficient method than branch mining at level 16.

I need diamonds, it's been like two days!

everyone's discussing strategies on how to kill it or is complaining that it's too scary but has anybody ever wondered what it will drop? I was expecting a new item altogether or like a run for 5 minutes without draining your food bar kind of item

To answer your thread literally, no. No i'm not curious about what it will drop. In fact I wish people would just shut up about what it will drop untill 1.8 has actually been released and you can FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF.........

posted a message on How 1.8 has affect my views of Mojang
The horrific assumptions and generalisations made by OP are rife in posts like these all over these forums.

I'm so tired of hearing about "how much money he has" - no-one is qualified to speak about that except Notch himself, his accountant, (and probably his wife :tongue.gif:)...

I love how you mention "incomplete 1.8" as if there was ever an exact spec for what it would change & include to begin with.

And I am definetly with him on not selling out to steam/valve. They are the ones presenting the terms of their business model. And that model effectively outsources entirely to them. Why should he do that? Give away his own assets just to be able to partner with them? Sorry but pretty sure this is doing just fine without Steam...

Your turn, show me a longer bug list and I'll totally believe you.

So find you an arbitrary minecraft mod with an arbitrary bug list longer than Minecraft's and I convince you my argument?

The point of that would be ?

I'm going to stop here, as this is a waste of my time.

And you already know the mojang teams software development process would be better than those used by these independent, part time, causal, mod coders - so obviously I'm not going to be able to point you at their bug lists.

Their bug lists would probably be a triage of forum posts in one massive thread, given mainly by volunteers who have tested the mod.

there are more bugs vanilla then all the popular mods combined, hell, alot of mods FIX some of those bugs

Again, i'll treat this as your personal opinion as you 1) have provided no evidence and 2) really have no way of quantifying that. Unless of course you are going to QA the entire minecraft code base and every single mods codebase...also how many bugs did the mods introduce (that you just don't know about yet) whilst they "fixed some of those bugs"? quick fixes are much more prone to introducing more bugs.

Surival is Adventure Mode. Creative is Building Mode.

You make a world you pick between Creative or Surival.

    Sorry, was that the question?

You have just presented me the Minecraft bug list, unfortunately, not factual evidence "that most well known mods have less bugs then vanilla Minecraft."

I dont think so...... Only moderators in smp....... Sorry i think you have to choose creative or survival.

In many ways this is kind of a good thing - it will make it less tempting for me to "cheat"

The irony in this statement is that most well known mods have less bugs then vanilla Minecraft.

present me ONE FACT, just one, thats all I want, that supports this.

...whatever man. Its clearly foreign, doesn't ever fit properly with the rest of the game, and VERY unstable (esp. as all those well known mods you talk about, are going to have to update their codebases AFTER release date.
