    Hard to say how well that ladders would work, they would have to be high enough for mobs to not jump and reach, as they would all start climbing out of the trenches at random if they could reach the ladder. If the canals are too deep though then the mobs won't fall in on their own in the first place...

    One could possibly use wider waterways with a ledge to reduce spiders climbing the sides, swapping out the signs for half-blocks, pressure plates or the like. Or perhaps slope the whole room towards the collection point, but that works against the nice compactness of the current design...

    Troublesome indeed, silly spiders.

    I thought about adding the ledges so as to prevent them from climbing out, though it would have to be widened to a 5x2 canal to still allow for mobs (specifically spiders because they need a 2 block hole to fall into) to go swimming.

    Also, do you know at what height mobs become averse to falling off the blocks they're standing on?

    I don't see what sand would achieve, the whole 'spiders can't climb sand/sandstone' thing was long ago debunked. Spiders can and will climb sand.

    Soul Sand, on the other hand, is looking like a good option as recent research has demonstrated (viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=149154&view=unread#p2222809). Though it would be very impractical to gather in a volume large enough to line a mob trap like this, and would be 100% impractical for SMP due to being a nether sourced item...

    I see -- it appears as though ladders around the outside prevent spiders from climbing up -- I suppose it would only take a certain amount of time before the spiders get tired of trying to climb and just submit to the will of the water flow?

    I'm wondering if we'll have to make the canals 3 blocks deep then, though :sad.gif:

    Time playing minecraft: About a month
    Previous server experience: I've visited a few public servers, none of which were really that enjoyable -- though I was able to build an underwater town a few evenings ago because the server wasn't at its peak hours. Basically, though, public servers are grief bate :/

    Define "RolePlay": Basically, taking on the persona of a character and acting accordingly.
    What does "Factions" Mean?: Different groups (often considered nations or alliances of nations) that have different goals/
    Define "OOC": Out of character -- this is used to indicate a (temporary) dropping of role/persona/character
    When should GlobalChat be used?: Basically requesting help [of admins]
    When should LocalChat be used?: Whenever you are in the vicinity of someone you are trying to communicate with (ideally, pretty much all the time with the exception of requesting the help [of admins])
    Outcast, Citizen or Lord (own a city)?: Citizen with the prospect of working to better the city/town/develop a stronger overall community
