You don't need to put a block where the diamond is. You can just walk to the side next to it and collect it.
Okay in that example image you could just dig out the dirt to the sides, then get down next to it and suck the diamond out through the corner, yeah. But if this were actual bedrock layer, then you wouldn't be able to do that, because there would (or could) be bedrock in your way there, too.
Quote from erntcariu_ua12_meAnyways. this is probably the most obvious thing ever.
Obvious to seasoned pro's, like us? Sure. Immediately obvious to some newbie, who just found their first diamond only to have it "eaten" by bedrock? Maybe not so much.

You put the dirt block there and pushes up the ore. How could someone not find that out by themselves?
He's not try'na say that no one's thought of it before. In fact, he starts of the first post with "For myself and most others here, this trick (if you can call it that) is pretty obvious." He's just posting a helpful tip for newbies, who may not have thought of that yet.

Large Biomes
There is also a nice little cave with a dungeon at the bottom containing a power 2 enchantment book along with some other goodies. Fitting place for a bow enchantment, you'll have lots of string. I haven't explored too much yet, but if I find anything cool I'll post it up.
Here are some screenshots I took. (That hole in your screen is the location I'm taking the following screenshot from.)
On the beach.
Directly behind you in the first shot.
On that jungle cliff.
Cave with stuff to make a nice bow and sword right away.

In my world I spawned in an ocean on large biomes. I managed to find a abandoned mineshaft to get wood and build a base above the water. I've got lots of resorces, a few outposts and even base in the nether with a double blaze spawner. So I don't want to give up on this world!
Thing is, I have 48 levels of XP and no way to enchant! I have sailed in every direction for days before giving up. Even make some portals in the nether hoping to hit land. No luck. I need leather!!
Oh, I have been trying to cure zombie villagers too, trying to get some books.
So. Anyone know some awesome secret to finding land/leather that I am missing? Cause I REALLY Don't want to sail for 20 minutes straight just to find something.

So here's the trick! Just fill the hole with unwanted blocks. The items will have nowhere to go execpt towards you and into your hands. That's it.
I hope I this helps some noobs out and people stop complaining about bedrock eating items!

Only downside is it wont say apple on it and hipsters will look down on you for it.

I hope you all take serious consideration towards the kind of game you play and support.
It is never too late to stop playing minecraft and return to the right path. It is never too late to ask for forgiveness.
