I too, find it a bit ridiculous that they didn't include poisonous potato or rotten flesh as compostable items.

posted a message on Measuring Tape

So tape might be a bit too glamorous of a term, but it gets the point across. An item that essentially counts how many blocks you've walked away from the block you right-click on.

This would save you having to parse through the F3 menu, which newer players might not even be aware of, placing torches at intervals or straight up having to go mad from counting hundreds of blocks (speaking of which, has anyone else ever noticed ttheir vision being a bit wavy after doing that?).

I can't say it's a perfect solution, but an idea I'm thinking of is an item/block resembling a tripwire hook. When you place the first one, a zero appears floating above it, a bit how you would see a pet or a player name when mousing over it. You can then use a second one, right click on the first one and place it wherever you want to measure to, at which point it would display the distance between them. Linking them up would allow you to measure perimeters, where as only pairing them would be good for measuring straight distances.

It does still pose the issue of trial and error for finding the right distance you have in mind when building something, which I'm afraid cannot be done without adding some form of live distance counter on the UI, whether it be down in the hotbar, by the cursor or somewhere else on the screen when holding the item.

Maybe there is a much simpler solution and I'm not seeing the forest for the trees, but I remember when the ruler was added in Terraria and how much of a convenience it became for building. Of course we have another dimension to work with, which complicates things, but I'm sure it'd be a welcome addition by many. Especially if planting these markers would mean that the more forgetful of us don't have to keep re-measuring every time we come back to a project.

posted a message on add coffee beans/coffee to minecraft

Bit of an iffy one. While having access to haste without a beacon sounds exciting, I feel like that would take away some of the value of beacons and the whole adventure that is getting one. If nothing, though, at least it'd teach kids about how an addiction forms!

posted a message on Large Doors

    Simply put, a door that's 2x3 rather than 1x2.

Normal doors do the trick a lot of the time for houses, interiors and smaller buildings. However, when we get to the castle scale, it does seem a little off to have the same dinky little door you might use for a cellar as the main entrance. It would also finally a provide a door fit for a stable you can ride your horse through. Put two of them together and you've got something much more impressive than a wooden door without getting a complex redstone mechanism involved.

The whole opening ordeal might be a little more difficult to figure out than for normal doors, however, as it would need to check that the 4 blocks it resides in during either state are not obstructed and if they are, prevent the player from opening them.

I figure this would make a nice addition to the arsenal of furniture builders have to their disposal, as well as providing some form of functionality in survival when it comes to securing stables. Perhaps even make them a bit more durable than the normal doors and they could make for some hefty town gates for villages.

Wouldn't mind seeing some more Gothic looking versions too. Similar to the stone sculptures in Terraria, to make castles a bit more castley.

Not entirely sure on the whole dyeing and moving thing, but generally sounds like an alright idea. Now that the stonecutters are in the game, it could possibly utilise the UI already in place to simplify the crafting process.

posted a message on Splash bottle of honey!

I'd almost argue it'd be a nice idea for it to increase the range at which hostile mobs are attracted. I personally dislike the idea of xp-farms and such so I tend to go out hunting for mobs at night and this would be cool as sort of slather-yourself-up-in-honey battle potion effect to make them come to me.

Considering the game really lacks in weather effects already, it would be a cool addition. Imagine actually having to go outside and "sweep" around your house to prevent it from very slowly being buried in the desert.

posted a message on End border mobs (end whales)

I really wouldn't mind seeing not just this, but an equivalent for the normal oceans. A rare large mob would add a nice contrast to the usual mobs you encounter in the game.

Not a hundred percent sure on the attacking, I wager they should be at least neutral if not passive. Just doesn't seem like a very whale-thing-to-do to attack on sight or be out hunting for flesh. Perhaps the ocean variety could be whales, which are neutral and the End version be leviathans, more in-line with the whole Moby **** thing.

posted a message on Inventory Sorting

Besides, redstone sorters are more of a way to store items automatically without having to open each chest individually, rather than just having a neat inventory. I think InvTweaks actually implemented the buttons quite nicely, with the 3 chest buttons. If you don't even want that, just pressing middle click multiple times changes the sorting pattern without affecting visuals at all, so perhaps that's an even better solution for the base game.

Definitely very fond of this idea! A bit concerned about the doubled speed, perhaps that is a little bit much, but very good propositions none the less!

posted a message on Inventory Sorting

For many years, I've taken to using inventory sorting mods, the latest one being Inventory Tweaks. You get used to it and you don't even realise just how convenient it is until it's gone. Since Forge hasn't been updated in months, nor has the mod and I've realised just how nice it would be for the base game to have even a simple inventory sorting system.

It doesn't have to be much, or even nearly as fleshed out as the mod currently is. Just a simple button or mouse click to order the items. I was pleasantly surprised when Terraria added this feature on top of an already pretty solid inventory system. Maybe not in the way that would be best suited for Minecraft, but the idea itself is there.

Having the option to order your inventory, quick stack into a chest, deposit all of your items or only one item would coexist very nicely with the already existing shortcut system of splitting stacks, click-dragging and shift-clicking.

The more minute things that the mod possesses, like a sorting rules, vertical and horizontal sorting patterns and if an item enters the hotbar upon being picked up are all secondary to a very basic function that would spare people hours of time digging through and sorting chests. Time that could be spent doing far more exciting things without unnecessary busywork.

Hey, I don't mean to be rude, but I just wanted to know if it's still being updated? I'm worried that in the year it took Minecraft to update, you might've been consumed by a travelling flock of seagulls or something. This is probably my favourite mod of all and I would love to see it continued!
