There is a new update that has just been released, economy has been revamped again. Love the server and its got a great community forming. The owner is also very understanding and responsive to feedback.
After playing off and on for about a week now I have one suggestion, fix the economy. Any good Towny server must also be a good eco server and atm, it kind of feels like only 2 figures were looked at; the cost of towns and the react reward because imo, nothing else in the economy seems to works very well.
I get that the intention is to make sure that every town is earned as apposed to just practically giving them away which imo is a misuse of the plugin - that does not encourage others to join towns. So I'm good with having towns be expensive to claim, however... atm the only way to realistically do that is through winning the chat react which pays $10K, that happens every 5 minutes. Compare that to say, the digging job which at level 20, only pays about 3K in 15 minutes, assuming non stop digging with an eff4 diamond shovel. The mining job is much less rewarding even at a higher level. I don't really like the idea that the best way to earn money on the server, is by staring at chat and typing faster than others, or being the only one on at the time. I'd rather see money be worth it by actually playing the game through jobs and selling items.
If you do this then you will be offering choices to users because right now the only real choice is the react game, and that's not even minecraft.
This brings me to /shop. Buying blocks through the shop is way too cheap and that is a problem because no one is going to find it worth it to sell blocks to other players when they have to compete with the shop undercutting everything. This should be the opposite, items for sale through the shop should be over-priced in order to encourage users to buy and sell with each other and buying from the shop should be a last resort. Proof that the shop items are way too cheap is the fact that no one is really using the /ah plugin, or trading. I have literally not seen a single player trade yet.
Any good eco server will have well defined prices, and that takes a while but is necessary for balance. If the main objective with an eco is to be able to purchase a town then you should decide how long you think it would take in hours to be able reach the amount needed for both the Towny rank and to purchase a town. If you decide 15 hours (just an example) then each job should have income adjusted so that a new player can earn the needed amount to purchase a town within 15 hours. And if you only do this for a few jobs then you will have a ton of worthless jobs and all players will end up with the same jobs.
The best way to come up with these numbers is through volunteers (or yourself). work each job for 1 hour ad a preset median level (say 20) and then adjust it so that all jobs earn roughly the same amount with 1 hour of effort. Then multiply that 1/h value by the number of hours you want it to take to earn a town, then set town and rank prices accordingly. The harder way is to first set rank fees and town costs and then try to constantly tweak all jobs so that it works with those values.
This is a good server and it has a lot of potential to be one of the great ones. The underlying premise is good, it just needs some tweaks here and there and I'd fix issues first before adding any new plugins as it is important that what is there now is working well before adding something else that may also need balancing or debugging etc, esp within the eco. That's my 2 cents, keep the change.
Found the server, figured I'd give it a go and hope for the best. Most servers seem to be OP, giving you tons of money or items right off the bat and everything is cheap, including towns and nations. NOT here, and thank goodness for that! Seems to be just about what I was looking for. I'd recommend this new server to anybody, stick around and it'll be much bigger in no time!
Finally a classic Towny server which I've been spending ages looking for! It's new but has tons of potential and would always recommend everyone to jump on early to have the advantage.
