posted a message on Grass sides
One thing that has always bugged me about the aesthetics of Minecraft is that grass blocks always have dirt sides. To me it makes hills look ugly and unrealistic. I think that if a grass block has a side that is exposed to sunlight, and there is another grass block below that side, such as...

..., that side should be textured with grass.

However, for larger cliffs where there is not another grass block below that side, such as...

..., those sides would still be dirt.

I know this would require a new method of texturing for dirt blocks, but can anyone tell me if this would be possible... and even better if there are any mods that currently do this?

Alright, thanks for the info :smile.gif:. Do you know if you still have to be within a certain number of blocks for them to spawn?

I'm trying to make a mob farm in my little server, but before I do, are the spawning rules different on SMP? Is there still a limit to hostile mobs?

I just made a new world on my little local server, and after doing a little exploring I found this PERFECT CIRCLE of stone and gravel.

How do I get the seed out of the server map so someone can confirm?

Sammoocow, as you may have noticed, (assuming you haven't written off the thread/forums entirely) there's a lot of negativity here. I hope that doesn't dissuade you from the game or even from the forums, as there's a lot of fun to be had in the former and probably some redeeming factor for the latter.

A bit of history. Way back when (i.e. last year) was a very hectic time in Minecraft development. We got weekly updates. Notch (the game's creator) was working 12 hour days, but he also wasn't very careful about what he said he'd like to put in the game. As such he's said a number of things that haven't come to pass. That's the source of the pessimism here.

I'd like to offer a bit of optimism: Nearly everything he's promised lately has in fact happened. We're missing the mod API (next up after 1.5) and the achievements/stats (in 1.5). 1.5 is scheduled for next week, which means for the first time in a while we're getting more than one major update in a month's time. The very people who are crying doom now have been doing so for months, and yet the game continues to be updated. I see no reason that it would stop.

Well thanks for the helpful and positive post.
On a sort of different note from this thread, where can I see some details on the achievements and stats coming? Is it a mod they're implementing or their own feature?
