Dude just plain No. It will be abused by griefers and op/mods, also, it could be used to impersonate famous people such as Jeb or AntVenom
No, it wouldn't. You would keep your username, which you would be banned by, but there would be an added "Display Name" which would be separate from your username. Also, the display name would go by the same guidelines as the usernames, so no name could be used twice.
NOTE: If you try to make this mod, I need to receive credit for the idea. Also, please let me in on the project. Thank you.
Mod Idea/Request: Monsters vs Steves (Multiplayer mod)
General Idea: What I am looking for in this idea is a multiplayer mod (and perhaps a map to go with it) that puts monsters played by players (creeper, zombie, skeleton, ect...) against Steves in a PvP battle.
Monsters: The mobs would be played by players, and there would be interface tweaks to go along with it. For example, there would be no item slots, no hunger bar, no experience bar, ect... However, the amount of hearts the "mob" players have would be adjusted to the type of monster they are playing as. Also, their character model would be changed to look the same as their monster. Here is what I have come up with so far:
Creeper: Simple, left click blows you and the surrounding area up after a brief hiss.
Sends you to the respawn screen.
Skeleton: Armed with a bow, skeletons would have infinite arrows that Steves can't pick up. Arrows do less damage than a normal bow, however.
Zombie: Walks slower than Steves, does massive hand-to-hand damage.
Spider: moves fast, can climb walls, does low-medium melee damage. Not sure how difficult this one would be to code.
Monsters cannot break/place blocks, except for zombies which can destroy doors. And of course, creepers can blow everything up.
Steves: Steves would also be played by players. The Steves would spawn with certain items, depending on their type.
Swordsman: spawns with iron sword.
Archer: Spawns with infinity bow.
Builder: Spawns with wood sword and 32(?) cobblestone.
As of right now, I am thinking along the lines of an in-game GUI that allows you to select your class/monster type in between lives (respawn screen?).
Thank you for reading, and please leave a comment telling me what you think of this idea, what could be improved, ect... I would code it myself, but I am horrible with Java.
Yep, I found it pretty easy. Just go out into a desert, find a skeleton, get a good distance away, and shoot him. Usually, at that distance they hardly move when you are aiming at them, so getting multiple shots on them isn't that difficult.
I have been having some serious trouble with my Nether portal. It started when I built my portal at about Y:68. The corresponding Nether portal spawned at bedrock. "No big deal" I thought, and started to stair up. It hadn't been too long before lava flooded my tunnel and I was forced to dig in a different direction. This continued for about an hour, and I have a tunnel going at least 200 blocks in a straight line, all under lava.
Realizing that I wasn't getting away from the lava above my head anytime soon, I went back to the overworld, destroyed my current portal, and rebuilt it about 20 blocks away and 20 blocks higher. It led to the same Nether portal. I decided to try to force another portal in the Nether to spawn by unlighting the current portal with TNT, but after I killed myself and respawned, going through the portal created another one in the Nether... 2 blocks away from my original one.
Does anyone know how I can fix this, and make my portal spawn above the lava rather than below it?
Well the resources folder is where the sound for minecraft is located, so that explains the problem, regarding no sound. To fix this delete the resources folder and start minecraft. This will re-download the resources folder.
I tried what you said, and it did re-download the resources folder. However, when I went to check it again, the folder was still empty. Help?
My game sounds and music are not working. I have made sure that my sound and music sliders are turned all the way up, and I checked the "mixer" and made sure that minecraft sound was not muted. The only hint I do have is that my "resources" folder is empty. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, I completely understand. I will try my best to learn Java, no promises if I'll be of any help. Thank you again for taking on this massive project.

Could you give me an update on how it is coming along? My curiosity is killing me xD.

Great, thanks! Please keep me updated on this if possible, I would like to follow the development.
Edit: Let me know if you have any questions about this idea, I'm not sure I got my point across as clear as I would have liked.

Basically a multiplayer mod that puts player-controlled monsters against Steve's in a multiplayer battle. More info in the post.
EDIT: Never mind this post, Someone else offered to work on it.
