    Yes, Better Anvils has been able to move enchantments from items to books for a long time. To me, that and the fact that it avoids the Vanilla Repair Trap¹ are its real killer features. These last few posts are the first I've ever heard of it being able to copy enchanted books though. But to me, those are things that in my opinion the vanilla enchanting table and anvil should have done from the start. The vanilla repair trap has always been unfair. It doesn't seem to me that a replacement item should be way more expensive than the original just to fix a few bugs/flaws in the original item.

    Now, if you changed the config settings to allow illegal-in-vanilla enchant combinations, like say allowing any piece of armor to have global protection PLUS any one special protection, instead of global protection OR any one special, or to raise the maximum levels of enchants that can be applied (picture a scythe with Smite 10, Unbreaking 6) ... then I can see making the anvil substantially more expensive to make. Because that's a substantial increase in capability.

    ¹ Which is to say, the way the vanilla anvil allows you to craft an item that you cannot repair because the cost of repairing it would exceed the arbitrary enchanting-cost cap.

    the better anvil does let you do the scythe with smite 10 unbreaking 6 (heck even unbreaking 10 if you got it) if you got those items ingame in survival mod or otherwise :) now i agree a special enchant with a global would be nice and maybe master801 can make it do that somehow (idk how good his skills are and if its even possible) but you can definitely do the whole scythe thing there is even a mod that raises the enchantment level cap (can get a level 10 sharpness possibly) if you want to get the enchantment thru that means tho it doesnt do modded enchantments sadly but still :P

    I'm not sure I see a reason for diamonds in the Better Anvil, but I have been toying with using Minetweaker to add an alternate recipe for crafting the Better Anvil on my server, using the vanilla-anvil recipe except for replacing all of the iron with thaumium. If I decide to do that, I might also override the texture to add a deep purplish thaumium undertone.

    reason i see in adding diamonds is not only because of the texture Tmtravlr provided but also because of the ability to do more with the better anvils and while diamonds are pretty expensive in most cases, to me i believe that better anvils is worth it because of what it can do compared to a normal anvil. we have asked for a level limitless anvil as an alternative/upgrade from the normal anvil. in the case we get higher level enchantments we can use them and not worry about them being capped to their "normal" level where the vanilla does so (which totally sucks!) we apparently can copy enchantment books and also possibly (maybe in the future if not already) take certain enchantments off things (i think this is a thing unless i was so tired when reading some time ago that i was mistaken)
    and unless you want a golden texture to it i really believe the diamonds are worth it :P

    master801, do you know if the code on github is up-to-date? I want to take a stab at making said new block and re-texturing it (so it doesn't look identical to the vanilla anvil anymore).

    There are also a couple mechanics that I don't like: being able to copy enchanted books on the anvil (I think it makes it too easy), and not being able to separate the enchantments on an enchanted book into several books (which I think would be quite useful if you happen to get a book with something like protection and sharpness). So those can either be suggestions, or I could take a look at making them in the code (with config options to enable/disable them).

    That texture looks really nice, I have to admit. The current Better Anvil recipe doesn't use diamonds, so I think that texture wouldn't work unless we changed the recipe to have at least one diamond in it (which I may end up doing, please express your thoughts on this matter.)


    i would not mind it having a diamond in it if it looked like that! XD heck if i was being totally honest i wouldnt mind if the 4 iron we use to upgrade it was turned into 4 diamond (since we already used so much iron to make the original anvil) and really it would be i guess to say more worth it because you can get your hands on a nice enchantment (some people can get level 10 enchants thru modded means) and your anvil wont cap the level to the "normal" max (aka level 10 looting can be put on a diamond sword and not be capped at level 3 yay!)

    Since we all know gold tools are pretty much useless I wanna put a use for them.....to get bonus loots when using them (came to me when playing an app called blockheads) so I need a way to add like when you mine stone with a gold pick you will get the cobble AND a random ore/ingot/gem/whatever

    Can I do that? If so how?....if you have a tutorial on how to make a add-on ill give it to ya cuz I think people would be happy if they can get something more out of a gold tool....

    What about a random good effect when getting hit on armor maybe I guess? Lol idk yet XD

    The only mod I know that does that is harvestcraft, but it also has a "fish trap" block that can catch it's fish without needing a fishing rod, so you can still get its fish.

    lol when i wrote this i was talking about harvestcraft XD but another mod is lots of food >.< and i think i worded that wrong XD i meant to ask basically is it possible to be able to turn fish items from like harvestcraft into actual swimming fishes? XD it was late when i was writing that last night and i was running on very little sleep XD sorry for the confusion

    the mobs that arent villagers, the stones you put in (unless i can change them into cobble then id be more okay with it XD), flowers, most things on this page (https://sites.google.com/site/tynkynwiki/items/plants-and-food)
    i have other mods that either add lettuce or mutton (lamb chops) or able to get blaze rods easier XD
    i dont really understand the need for the ores (but i havent checked)

    i cant say i support this fully.....

    wolf meat.......that upsets me greatly not just because wolves are my favorite animal but the thought of eating my best friend ingame after s/he dies upsets and disturbs me....

    the leveling system i like the idea of but perks and the whole damage is just sounding op

    the whistle would be fine if you could call all your standing dogs with it (sitting ones should stay where they are i think) instead of having them call one or two.

    the foot thing again disturbs me >.< carrying around my friend who ive done battle with (assuming i did do battle with dogs) and/or turning them into a drink to give me powers *shivers* just no >.<

    so i have been looking for a mod like this for quite a while and finding this makes me EXTREMELY happy because i seriously hated not being able to have fish swimming around for some reason XD i have one question tho......any chance of being able to have mods that add fish items (but not actual fishies that swim)? if not ill just keep a normal fishing rod around i guess XD
