The Mite Migo's recorded in R93 yesterday and I'm reporting in. Our Minecraft clients were displaying an error, off and on, in red text, at the upper left corner of the screen:

"EnchantmentThorns.func_92096_a: called on client? Press [c] to clear error message"

TheZombiesOnTheBus discovered two hacks: Despite having the 'Cannot wear Armor' curse, he was able to wear armor by shift-clicking it from his inventory. Also, the bug where you can break a chest with poor bows and get back better ones - still works on furnaces. Put a bad bow in a furnace, break the furnace, spits out good bows.

The mob generation is notably lighter than pre-R88. Night-surface spawning is reasonable now, I think. I also started up a fresh solo run to test, and I've been able to swing it. Though I still think wood spiders need even more nerfing. They appear a lot in certain biomes / situations and its really hard to get a foothold when they're around. Make them a three-hit kill for an unarmed lvl 0, and it will offset the whole: Single-block passage / poisoning / sprint-speed / moves through leaves / jump attacks / never de-aggros / camps my inventory... recurring nightmare I've been having lately.

I started two new games that spawned me in a jungle and within twenty seconds of initial chunk generation, I was dead to a Black Widow that had spawned near enough for me to hear the hiss while the chunks were still loading in. Maybe a buffer zone is called for. Also for jungles, I think there might be something wrong with ocelot spawning. Here's a couple screenshots of what it looked like after a few nights spent sleeping near some cats.

They were everywhere and it seemed like their numbers were increasing the longer I stayed. (I only camped there three or four nights.)

While mob night-generation seems okay now, my experiences in both R88 and R93 are that if you get killed once inside a cave, it's over: Just walk away.

There seems to be a snowball effect whilst caving. Everything is fine until that first mob turns up. When you dispatch it or it dispatches you, everything is immediately less fine and continues to get less and less fine as you go. The one mob turns into two, and the two into four. And the more you dispatch them, the more they come. A corpse run almost always finds more mobs waiting for you than you left, regardless of torching, and now you're unarmed and naked and they've picked up your shiny silver sword, and are wearing the dyed leather chest piece ShadowKnight gave you for Christmas!

They really do seem to be spawning in lit areas. Now maybe that's the low-light spawning bump or maybe that's the better pathing and increased range drawing them out of legitimately dark corners. But one way or the other, it really looks like once that first blow is landed the winds gather into a perfect storm and destroy everything in their path . And I honestly don't see how someone could get started caving without already having the armor, weapons, and resources they can only acquire from caving. (Outside of being really, really lucky. Even that might not be enough.)

If you've gone caving in R93, especially if you've done so in the early era of mining, I'd love to hear about it. It is entirely possible, after all, that I'm just a big baby who's total rubbish at this. ;)

I haven't played in a release with malnutrition yet, but I like the idea. It forces players to consider what they're eating and rewards them for doing some of the things we've been avoiding: namely fishing. And though I haven't had to contend with it I really don't see it being a major hurdle for starting up. In the early game it figures to me that either you're dying at least once a week, in which case your nutrition values reset, or you're playing so well and so carefully that you aren't dying -- and having the lowered regen rate will only cost you the occasional level that you can easily get back in a night of careful grinding.

It remains to be seen but I think it deserves a good chance since it could give the mid-game even more depth.

Yeehaw! Can't wait to try R92. You know when I saw all the mobs in R88 showing up at the MiTE Migo's temple, my first thought was, "I wonder if we've pissed them off enough now that they're trying to overrun us." And now that I think about it, that could be a neat feature. Kill too many zombies in the same chunk over time and eventually one night 3x the usual mobs spawn in that chunk -- and every one of them is zombies -- and they're all armed -- and targeting the player who's been killing them all! Muahahah.

The Horde invasion! Careful using that mob-grinder, Billy. Kill 200 zombies with it and they just might come a'knockin, ;)

I started a number of new worlds in R88 tonight, and I also played a save I've got 10-15 hours into. My opinion right now is that the even-more aggressive mob-spawning in the post-R85 builds is indeed too much. Yes, I'm saying it: it's too difficult. But more importantly, it lacks the charm and variety of the previous releases.

In R88 every single night is a growling, skittering, maelstrom of Satan's own evil, clawing at the walls of your home. And every single cave has half a dozen mobs waiting just inside the darkness; two torches beyond that, another wave of mobs; followed by another; followed by another.

There's no sense of build, anticipation, or variety, because every night is an apocalypse. You need not fear what might be lurking in that dark corner, because if its a dark corner then there's always something lurking in it. There are no eerily-quiet moments. No oddly uneventful nights. Nothing to build tension or suspense. And equally no respite from the incessant storm of mobs, mobs, mobs. It's just 'Dead Rising' without the chainsaw.

And yes: I think it's too hard now. Or rather, its become too easy to have the whole bottom drop out of it after you've poured hours and hours in, over the course of weeks and weeks. The one thing I love most about MiTE is that it forces us to appreciate and utilize every object and every potential activity in the game in order to play it. But this part of the latest changes just feels like 'making it even harder' for the sake of 'making it even harder.' I don't play MiTE to measure my ****. I play it because its the only version of Minecraft that makes full use of Minecraft.

The increased spawn rates, the higher illumination levels for spawn, and the zombies that insta-spawn inside your secured home at the precise moment you finish killing one through the door, make the game punishing; not challenging. It's just turning the amp up to 11. Yeah, it's really, really loud now -- but it doesn't sound any good.

It should take about one in-game week to develop a deficiency if one of the 3 essential nutrients aren't being consumed.

Is malnutrition offset by the consumption of any one of the three essentials then? Is it such that, you needn't consume all three to simply stave off the effect, but your "nutrient load" isn't completely full unless you've covered all the bases; And will deplete more quickly?

I love all of the changes you're making...

but when I started out, I had no idea what I was doing, so I looked up on youtube 'MITE minecraft mod review' and No-one has EVER done a showcase on it. (a review is different from a let's play)

I've just been thinking of doing a How-To: MiTE video. I realize that doesn't really exist. And I finally think I'm good enough at the game to do such a thing. Unless, of course, the latest changes have turned me back into a squealing pile of zombie fodder. ;)

The MiTE 'Migos are getting together today to record for the first time in R88. I hear-tell the mob spawning is insane. And the cacti are high as an elephant's eye. Let's hope it all doesn't fall to pieces!

I'm personally terrified of the malnourishment in R89. Been eating sugar, and little else, for so long now I don't know what I'll do without my fix, man.

    Hi everyone,

I've been away for a long while, but R87 is now available.

I can't remember all of the changes that were made because things have gone a bit hazy. Well, two bug-fixes come to mind; the pumpkin-on-head bug and the armor dyeing bug. The first of which was pretty nasty but rest assured you can now wear pumpkin helmets with confidence. Major refactoring efforts were also made back in September/October and many hundreds of class files were altered from R85, so I'm not sure how this one will perform out of the gate but we'll soon find out.

Yay! I think I'll hold off on upgrading the MiTE 'Migos server until next week. Let the community test it a bit before bringing it to the show. Great to know you've patched the armor dying bug. Goldfish has been booted from the server twice now trying to do that.

Thank you so much for the early Christmas present, Avernite. One good turn deserves another so I'll share a secret with you that won't see Youtube for another week... Shadow and I have been leveling back up between recording sessions, and my next kill will put me at zero.

As for Goldfish... He seems to like it at -40.

Whats the deal with sheep? I'm getting frustrated trying to get three wool to make a bed. So far I've killed 10 sheep and got 1 wool.

Keep in mind, another potential source of wool for beds is crafting 4x spider string. Once you've cleared out the local biomes of wildlife, that may be the best you can do to get your bed and move away from spawn.
