Welcome to Untold Stories. This is where I post my CTM maps. (Complete The Monument) The objective is to finish the Monument by placing different colored wools and other material blocks on it. You find these wool blocks scattered around the map. The material blocks are iron, gold and diamond blocks. You may craft these blocks for the monument, But you are not allowed to craft the wool blocks.
Are you new to my maps? Or just new to the CTM genre in general? Then you should play Corona Trials! It's one of the best works I have to offer and is also really enjoyable for CTM newcomers!
Do you want to make videos of a map of mine? Sure, I recommend it, but you must have a link to this thread. If people watched your videos and want to play it themselves, they can find it really fast.
Without further ado, Let's get on to the maps!

Untold Stories 04 - Corona Trials - 1.2.2 For MC 1.12 (recommended for newcomers to my maps!)
I've frequently gotten requests about an easier map, so here we go! This map is based around fire with a difficulty that builds up. It starts off at a manageable level suitable for newcomers to the CTM (Complete The Monument) genre, but will get quite tricky over time.
Map Information:
Recommended MC version: 1.12
Difficulty: 2/5 --> 3/5 (from Easy into Normal)
Length: 3/5 (Medium)
Map Style: Linear-Branching
Amount of Monument goals: 16 Wool + 6 Material Blocks (+ 27 Bonus Emeralds)

Untold Stories 03 - Myriad Caves - 1.2.1 for MC 1.10
Myriad Caves, an extensive network of caves providing plenty to explore. This map is experimental in two ways.
Firstly, the map layout is an open-world cave layout. So areas may have an abounding amount of pathways to other areas. Secondly, the map uses a different food/health system than a normal MC world. Instead of getting food points back you get health back directly when you eat a piece of food. This in combination with the challenging areas will provide you with a challenging yet rewarding experience. How far will you make it?
Map information:
Recommended MC version: 1.9 / 1.10 (1.9 recommended, 1.10 works as well)
Difficulty: 4/5 (Hard)
Length: 4/5 (Long)
Map Style: Open World
Amount of Monument goals: 16 Wool + 6 Material Blocks (+ 54 Bonus Emeralds)

For MC 1.8:
Untold Stories 01 - Goliath - 1.1 for MC1.8
From forests to deserts. Go diving in the deepest oceans or go spelunking in the darkest caves. This map is an environment based map. It is extremely vast so that explains its name. It starts off relatively easy, but it gets harder and harder over time. But be wary, the map has a fair amount of traps
This map is a really rough map and not my best quality work. I recommend you Try some of my MC1.9+ maps.

Difficulty: Progressive 2/5 ---> 5/5 (Easy ---> Very Hard)
Length: 5/5 (Extremely Long)

Untold Stories 02 - Bigleaf Forest - 1.0 for MC1.8
Stranded on an island full of vast trees you must survive. Explore and
discover in this overgrown wilderness. This is an open-world map that is more of a survival map than an adventure map. Also, because this
map has many leaves, fire doesn't spread, just to save your computer some hassle.

Untold Stories Mini 03 - The Sower - 2.1 For MC 1.13.2
This is my first (mini) map for 1.13. The map experiments a bit with the core mechanics by introducing a new hostile mob spawning
system and and a spammable sword system. Feel free to leave feedback on how they play as I might use them again in a future map.
The map was originally made for the 21st Strawberry Jam, but I ran into time constraints, so I finished it as a standalone project.
In a world roses have withered and gloom filled the sky your objective is to find all flowers in the dark depths.
Retrieve all flowers to reap the victory. You start in a barren wasteland filled with old barrows.
As you explore these desolate ruins you will discover there is more than just old crypts below.

And I also made one for the 7th jam, just look it up on my channel

Just a random thought but I thought it would be awesome/hilarious if someone make a mapping (mainly terraforming) video with the style of Bob Ross and call it "The Joy of Mapping".
Okay. Now go back to what you were doing before.

If you guys need some inspirations for structures in your map, I would suggest watching the movie The Fall (2006), which have one of the most astonishing visuals in a movie I have ever seen. And it also showcased some interesting architectural (and some natural) wonders around the world.
Or if you don't have time to watch the movie, here's all the location used in the movie and you can research some of the locations yourself

Like Navarog said, suddenly people are not dead, including me (for a while tho)
Anyway can you guys stop bashing about NTWICCTM already? Like yea, it sucks. But map making is hard. And you know it. And some good map makers had made some bad maps from their early days and there are a plethora of bad maps out there. Like, come on guys, this is a hobby, not a professional stuff. Hopefully he did not lurk in this thread because it's downright demotivating if you get constantly reminded at how your creation is apparently the worst thing since the holocaust.
These sort of thing is why I slowly drifting from the thread, aside from growing up and deal with real life stuffs (well, university stuff but w/hatever). Like the talk about Vechs in a few while back and how he was "overrated" and stuff because he's the one that came up with CTM. The way I see it, this is a hobby. You could make money out of this but it mainly just for fun! You want to create beautiful terrain! You want to see people die in their LP! It' for fun!
Not gonna lie, this thread felt... different than how I first lurk here. Lots of people grow up and deal with real stuff and move on from this thread. You guys, the current regular poster here, please keep the spirits high! Please keep this community alive! Please keep CTM just as fun to build and play them!

TL;DR Stop bashing on Ellie_Axe's map, stop the negativity, make CTM great again! #rexxyTrump2016

Oh wow! That thing... looks... wow!
For something to put on it, I think it's best to correlate it to the theme or lore of your map. Because just placing some random structures or scenery without some context in this setting just seems... off. I see an area that has this thing as something that should've has a meaning behind it, not just another random area in the map.
Also, I would suggest you make the player could see the full view of the person, because that guy right there probably makes the best focal point of that area and the player shouldn't just start and complete the area on top of the dirt without getting to see a full view of the figure.

@Acaran
I think you answered your own question as in why there are not enough good CTM maps that are based around survival. You've had problem doing it yourself. You haven't managed to deliver it yet. And that's the answer: it's not that easy to do. It's hard to balance your map like VF1 which has a thin line in difficult, but not impossible. Punishing, but exactly not too punishing. Survival aspect of the genre is really hard to balanced as opposed to the combat aspect. Why is it harder to balance survival in CTM than in regular survival maps? Because unlike regular survival maps, the player had to go to dangerous areas to get an objectives. And the mapmaker has to create the dungeon punishing enough BUT not impossible with the minimal gear the player has. And it does not composed of randomly sprinkle ghast spawners here and there and chuck a bunch of zombie and skeleton spawners. There are a fine order in the chaos. Dangerous to the player, but structured by the map maker. Which of course, was pretty done well in VF1.
But overall, you missed the whole point of CTM itself, heck the whole point of the game itself: it's just for fun! Sure the CTM genre now different from how Vechs defined. But did anyone heard him complained about it? He creates maps for fun and the way he likes it, so do anyone else was supposed to. Survival driven CTM maps are not your thing? Is it to hard and tedious to balanced as opposed to make custom mobs? No problem. Make a combat oriented CTM with great aesthetics and what not. After all, it's just for fun. You didn't have clients telling you what they want in the map. No. This is your map. you choose what you want to make. Ragecraft has little survival aspect? Sure. But is it fun? Does it relieved some IRL stress from you? After all, it's the whole point of video games itself.
in the end, you can choose to stick to the tradition, or break out of it. Either way, if done right, your map should have create enjoyment to the people playing it. And you have fun creating the map yourself.
