I love your ideas, and agree with almost all of them, but I don't expect Notch to make crafting anywhere near as varies as you propose. Though I personally would love the idea of alchemy, I think your proposition is too mystical for what Notch's aiming for.

I personally love the idea of lamps, but I'd rather them be magical, just fits better with my idea of a fantasy world, maybe gold or obsidian being a source of magical energy?

Well, then all you would need to make an infinitely wide sky castly is a 1x1 pillar from the floor to the base. though, all that it would nee to break is the destruction of one little block.

I figured this is the way it would be and I'd like it, you could make Korin Tower from Dragon Ball lol

I think most people have different ways they want to play minecraft. I personally am looking forward to large scale clan warfare and that kind of thing, but I don't want third parties to come in and destroy my side's base, at least most of the time. But I do also want to look at this game like some form of sociological experiment, look at how communities and alliances form, and at some point, especially early on that will involve bandits. Which, if able to be held in check I don't mind, I don't approve of stealing, but I see a basis for it beyond pure malice. It's the griefing without gain I disapprove of, in the real world someone who does something with the only purpose of hurting others is sent away from the normal population, it's only for the griefers I approve of banning. Thieves can profit in the real world, a griefer cannot.

I prefer to play with people who wouldn't grief if given the option than those who would and can't. You seem to want them to be unable to, but I think banning is the only way to remove the real problem.

Though I would love to see it I highly doubt that Notch would implement this sort of system.

In this vein, we need a Soot block/entity

I would like to draw more attention to this mainly because it entertained me.

but on topic, the only way there will be order is if rule breakers are punished, human nature requires this, punishments that hurt innocents as much as the guilty party are undesirable, the permadeath for this purpose is ridiculous, someone gets killed the moment he logs in and dies, fun time, though I do support the idea of permadeath in theory you would have to be on a good server first.

Banning will be the method to enforce rules, a good server will NOT be public, you won't play with strangers unless they have been judged worthy of whoever's server you can play on. If placed items are tied to the player who placed them a log of who destroyed what crafted item will be stored and an op can look at it and ban at his leisure, it's not perfect, it lets that first strike happen, but it is how criminal justice systems often work. Also, we have no clue what will happen in these private servers, it's possible at that point many of the people playing will actually be decent.

I use a floating sphere above my spawn point and whatever I'm building filled with torches to help myself navigate, I think that's a pretty good way to do it, but I do approve of the basic map idea, not just an overhead view but a real old fashioned map, with waterways and hills marked, nothing too specific.
