posted a message on Redstone lamps are good...but quite useless.
I think redstone lamps are a harbinger of more redstone content to come. Jeb tweeted about more redstone stuff coming after the API, and maybe this is the first taste.

I really like the lamps, they look nice when used as piston doors even if they're off.

hello MineCraftians,You know I have always thought that it was unfair that people who went to MineCon should always get something special, While the other BIG percentage of us who have bought the game don't, I mean some people might be outside of the USA and can't afford going to MineCon, That is just not fair...

so i have made a poll, It's sort of like a petition for Notch or Jeb, To add in custom cape support on the official website,
So please if you could just take a minute of your time to vote it would be great, After all every....vote....counts :wink.gif:.

And Remember to publish this and share it.

There is a fine line between crying for justice and envious whining.

I guess it depends on what causes the lag: RAM, processor, or graphics card (if any) I don't have a graphics card, so I can assume that's part of my problem.

posted a message on what should lamps be used for?
But if you use them as lightbulbs, and turn them off when you're not in the room, like a good little tree hugger, you'll come back to find all sorts of malicious malefactors lying in wait to tear you limb from limb and eat your juicy brains.

I'm just thinking what lamps ought to be used for. The only time I've seen this sort of thing is with mob grinders, when you need to go in and make changes without worrying about mobs spawning.

So what are y'all's ideas on how to use lamps?

posted a message on The cycle of Minecraft updates!
I'd agree that this was $20 well spent. I've put about as much time into this game as a person would put into their job, so the entertainment/dollar of this game is astronomical, at least for me. The last $20 game I bought that I was really happy with was mercury meltdown revolution, and I didn't even play that game a month. I've been clocking into minecraft every day since mid August.

I'll be "quitting" the game in about a week, though, since it's obviously become an addiction, and SSP has lost a lot of its luster. At the rate the game is updated, when I come back in a month or two--hopefully with a real job--it'll be awesome again.

    -baby villagers
    -taller maps
    -potentially huge performance improvements

    sounds good to me.

You've got a clock on your phone set to Stockholm time.

Every night, without exception, you have at least one dream rendered in 3x3 cubes.

You start talking to your in-game pet wolves and cats like real pets.

You've ever entered a dark room and thought for a second that you needed to place some torches before hostile mobs start spawning.

You've see something blue and green out of the corner of your eye and jumped because you thought it was a zombie.

posted a message on minecraftian language revisited
    Quote from NerdFish1

Well, the language for the enchantment tables is already a language http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commander_Keen#Standard_Galactic_Alphabet
albeit a fictional one but still a language.

Though I do think testificates should have their own language, a way to communicate with each other.

Ciphers for the Latin alphabet are not the same thing as languages.

posted a message on minecraftian language revisited
For the two or three people who read my previous topic about a minecraftian language for the testificates, I've decided to redo the language in light of the alphabet used by the enchanting table. Any conlanger will tell you that starting with an alphabet (especially one that is simply a 1-1 mapping of the latin alphabet) is a horrible way to start constructing a language, but whatever.

So far I've been thinking of making a simple "naming language" for the spells, and applying sound changes to the words to create a daughter language for the testificates. If it helps, the language of the spell book would be like Latin, and the language the testificates speak would be like Spanish. I might also mess with the alphabet a bit to replicate how the Laitn alphabet went from all uppercase to two cases in the daughter language.

I'll have to mull over some ideas before putting anything else in writing.

posted a message on mob grinder help
I'm already doing that. I want to know how long I have to AFK to get from one level to another. I've been doing it overnight, but I want to see if I can minimize the amount of time I'm spending on it.

posted a message on mob grinder help
I want to make my mob grinder as efficient as possible, so I'm trying to figure out how long I need to wait in order to gain a certain level assuming I start at level zero, and I need to know if my assumptions so far are correct.

The wiki gives the following formula to determine the amount of exp you need to go from on level to the next, where n is your current level and E is the number of experience:

    E = 7 + roundDown(n * 3.5)

Reaching back into the murky depths of my mind for my calculus 2 class, I am assuming that I can sum this in order to see how much experience I need to get to go from one arbitrary level to another (i.e. from zero to 50 or from 34 to 40).

Also, assuming (under ideal circumstances of course) that none of the skeletons despawn or die because of the fall, and given the average rate of mobs spawned from a mob spawner, I can get a formula that will give me level/time as an answer.

Can someone help me if I'm doing something wrong? Are all of my assumptions safe?

    Thanks

Creepers are plants (see the wiki) and house cats love to chew up houseplants, ergo the creepers are scared that the cats will chew on them.

posted a message on What if EA made Minecraft?
the fact that minecraft is an independent game is what makes it unique. If it were published by EA, it'd be another brown FPS. Big publishers stick with the same game types because that's where the money is. Minecraft had a 1 person dev team for the longest time, and even now its still Jeb and Jon for the most part. The low cost associated with development relatively speaking means that they can afford to take more risks. Just think of snow golems, Notch just woke up one day and thought to himself "I think it'd be great if you could craft a mob that would hurl snowballs at your enemies!" and it was out the door in a week. You can't do that at a big company.
