What do the the level.dat, level_old.dat, and session.lock files do? Are they important to the map? Or can I delete them, and the map will still be in tact?
The problem I'm having is that this has been going on for quite a while now. Every two to three months, we've had to reset the map, and it gets really annoying. We're just curious as to why it seems to happen so regularly. Is it just because it's in Beta has is bound to have loads of bugs anyway? Or could it be hard drive related?
I did run hMod, but now that it's not really supported anymore, I've been trying to run Bukkit. I haven't been able to get it to do much, though, so, currently, I'm temporarily running plain ole Vanilla Minecraft.
Everyone on my sever is having issues when connecting. We can connect to the server, but after about five or ten seconds, the game freezes and crashes. Any ideas? I can provide more information if needed.
I set up my Minecraft server last night, and it's been working well until a couple hours ago. I'm now getting this error:

Every time someone tries to connect, it times out. Any ideas?
The server software runs, but it won't let more than one person connect because of the system's specs. I'll probably buy some RAM for it later, because I'm pretty sure that's the root of the problem
Ok, I forwarded the port, and I got a different error this time. In the dialog box, it said:
"Disconnecting /192.168.1.102:3799: Took too long to log in"
The above IP is my other computer. I tried it multiple times and it showed the same message.
On my side, it said "Disconnected by Server: Took too long to log in"

I just now realized I'm running Windows Update in the background, and it's installing a crap load of updates. Maybe that's the cause?

"[WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?"
On his end, it said "Connection timed out:connect"
There was only one person logged on (my other computer) so I don't think it could be overloaded, and the system time hasn't changed either.

So, now, is this IP address the one I hand out to all my friends? Or is there a different one?
