    Just a suggestion, but it woudl be nice if we can disable the check for setting basedir to something that isn't .minecraft.
    Un order to get this to work with VoxelModPack, I had to edit the MagicLauncher.cfg to get around it. It uses .minecraft\modpacks\voxelmodpack as a basedir.

    WDL could work as a liteloader mod, liteloader mods don't change the class files, but its similar to modloader in that you can basically replace functions.
    Just looking at the 1.6 changes, it looks like mojang is going the direction of blocking base class mods to the main jar file, so all mods are going to have to use either Forge or Liteloader. Or if a mod wants to just be one that doesn't work with any other mod, they can do it as a "tweak", but it only lets you do one of those, unless you do liteloader and cascadedTweaks.
    See http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1868280-162api-liteloader-for-minecraft-162/ in the "what are cascadedTweaks" section, he explains it pretty well. He makes liteloader be the tweak, then provides a way for other mods to tweak.
    So everything is fine for now, you can still mod minecraft.jar. If the reason not to use forge is so that WDL can be detected, then use liteloader.

    This is a great idea, though you will have to be careful when using it, since it would be easy to overload the RAM and CPU on the client. You can load up optifine and set the view distance to very long distances to see what impact it will have on performance. It still has to keep the chunks in RAM if its going to render them, so it doesn't take a whole lot to blow up your computer. Remember that you are increasing the system requirements by a power of 2 for every chunk you add in any direction.

    I do think this mod is a great idea, especially if integrated with WDL, perhaps you can also add some visual cue as to what chunks are live and what ones are cached? It would make downloading worlds easier too, so you can more easily see what chunks you already have.

    I use Magic Launcher, and its a bit of a pain not having just a zip file with the files that would go into the jar.

    edit: nevermind, if I read more of this 10 page thread, I can see comments about it having an "extract only" option, it might help if that fact is in the OP.

    This mod and Zombe's Modpack (v8.2.2) don't play nicely together.
    Minecraft starts, but if you join a server, as soon as the world starts to load up, it NPE's.

    adfly is known for not screening their advertisers, and trojans are common. If you use adblock you should be pretty safe.

    I just wanted to share a tip, get Optifine and enable multicore chunk loading, then if you fly around with a flymod, you can fly at top speed and download a huge map very fast. I downloaded one world with zombe mod at speed 10 and it was able to keep up at the full 10 chunk radius (if squares had a radius that is).
