posted a message on Can I please get an HD skin mod?
I am filming a minecraft series and we wanted to use HD skins for better quality. But all of the HD skin mods are horribly outdated. Could anyone make very simple mod for this?

I don't even need it to run through the server, it could be entirely client based. Only our cameraman needs to see the HD skins, so it could be a client mod where you choose what skin to use for what player (allowing the use of HD skins.) Transparency would be a nice bonus, but isn't required.

    Thanks!

Looks pretty good. Although on my textures for furnace and machines, usually I put an outline around the whole thing as well.

I get the urge to come back to this every now and then, but then the anxiety kicks in. Wondering if I need to take it back to its super simplistic roots. I'm also not too fond of the name (hard to say). Ah well.

It would help out a ton if you released the WIP textures that weren't released yet. I've gone through the language file and renamed everything to what I plan on making it. I'll post it here after I fix some stuff for criticism and discussion.

    Sure. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5B8uTfzSR6CZ3FiTVFJdDRjSzA/edit?usp=sharing

That's everything I had on v4. (I accidentally deleted the cobblestone texture, so you'll have to add that back in). It'll have to be up to you guys to sort through it, see whats usable and what you actually want to use. Any decisions on what direction you want to take it are up to you guys no, like the natural logs etc.

BTW you have to hit File > Download to download the entire pack.

I used certain textures from other Resource Packs as 32x size reference from time to time. If you see any in here that I forgot to delete, simply remove them. They will stick out and they were not intended to be used.

By the way, Are you willing to still be involved in this project? We still need a thread, and you are the only one that can edit the OP of this one.

I can certainly run the thread and host the downloads. I'll add a tagline or something so it doesn't seem like I am taking credit.

It's great hearing you support a fan continuation. I'm not much of an artist, but I'd be willing to work on the less pleasant parts of the pack. Fixing the UI and such.

I created this pack because I wanted to see a good survival scifi pack. I still do, whether I'm capable of doing it or not! The artistic style is rather simplistic, so it shouldn't be that hard to do. Presumably you could go back to the even more simple style before I added the lines and stuff if you wanted.

I use a free program called GIMP. If you get some people together and they want to know my setup, I can totally help with that.

I'm really hoping for this! That would be fantastic! I could still help with ideas and stop by every once and a while. But I'm all for that, I'd like to see this finished!

I'm here to bring you the unfortunate news that I am leaving this resource pack again. I hate to leave after returning and getting everyone's hopes up, but honestly I never should have returned in the first place. This texture pack led me to great things, and I feel like I left at the best possible time, but I allowed the enthusiasm as my fans to bring me back.

I realize how much of an inconvience this is. I'm going to give more of an explanation this time, you guys deserve that much.

Texturing is not my strongest suit, nor is it my preferred art form. Before I started working on this I had dabbled in amateur game design, but my lack of programming knowledge meant I couldn't get very far. So, being a fan of Minecraft and of scifi I decided to take the game and make it my own, a game within a game if you will.

Time went on and I realized this probably wasn't for me. The resolution felt limiting and drawing consistently for a project over a long period of time was strange for me. However, I pulled things out of this experience that I enjoyed, such as the design work. This led me to my love of concept art.

Designing concept art really speaks to me. I enjoy creating new worlds and characters, as well as the pace of it. I can spend a couple of days on a picture, then its finished, then I move on. The next picture I can use any techniques I learned. I couldn't really do this with the texture pack, because I was tied down to sticking with the "style" of earlier textures. The result was as you guys have seen, I kept iterating on the same textures over and over, without really completing the pack any more than it was before.

The reality of it is I have moved on to other things such as concept art and painting and I don't have the time to invest in a project that I feel is a dead end for me. I enjoyed my time working on it, but I got what I needed and it is time to move on.

I would like to personally thank my fans and contributers, who helped me immensely along the way: shilohturtle, AtikLYar, sicmap, biolante1 and NovemberAlpha.

As well as DragonArmory576 Sheepdog, TheBritishSpartan, IsaacPunchesTrees, Raiofax, Zardium, Ninjaboy00 and Pinaz9.

You guys were great. Sorry if I left anyone out. Biolante I know you were going to start a youtube series with my pack, and I saw your intro video. I hate to end it like this, but I feel like it was just bound to happen eventually and better that I do it now than later.

I feel like I accomplished one of the initial goals of the texture pack, as I am starting to see many more scifi survival packs spring up, many better and/or more complete than mine.

So...there. Thank you everyone for this incredible experience. I will be posting most of my non-minecraft stuff over at http://tuffk.cghub.com/ .

If anyone decides they want to continue this, or use the ideas that worked, feel free.

It clearly shows that at these lower heat
fluxes, not all of the resin is burned. The THR is 30 MJ/m2
for heat fluxes above 25 kW/m2
    , but
drops off linearly at lower values, falling to about 2 MJ/m2
    at 8 kW/m2
    . While the initial flame
and radiant heat fluxes can allow the burning to commence at the lower heat fluxes, as the resin
is depleted, the carbon fibers insulate to reduce the internal heat flux. This causes extinction
before all of the resin is consumed.

As quoted from a study on flammability of carbon-fibre by the Office of Aviation research. Link: http://www.fire.tc.f...v/pdf/07-57.pdf

I don't mean to be rude, but most of the articles/ reports I've read state that,

    1) An immense amount of energy beyond what is physically possible with anything other then possibly Ramjets or Turbojets [This is an assumption if anything else has the same energy output, it counts too.]

    2) This is the more difficult problem, Carbon fibre for some reason, cannot completely combust and the flames will die out before completion. Hence an inability to completely break down through thermal decomposition.

Just to note, the article above has the most clear cut answer of the 6 or so I read, feel free to continue using carbon fibre, I just wanted to check if you were aware of its properties. Cheers!

EDIT: oh, I see what you mean by problem, the houses clash in that picture.....thats troubling.....maybe go for like a Borg planet?

Oh, and for the rest, did anyone here back for Star Citizen?

Yeah I didn't really explain myself to well. I never said the carbon fibre would combust, just that the resin would. So yeah, in my resource pack the blocks combust, but I feel like having that real life basis that the resin combusts allows us to stretch the truth a little bit more. Besides, I wasn't planning on calling it "carbon fibre", something more like "carbonite" (damnit Star Wars!), or "carbonium".

I also read that cheaply made carbon fibre is more prone to combustion. So the matter disposition-er, or whatever I'm calling the crafting table, takes the organic logs and re-arranges its molecules to be a metallic compound. However, this process is rushed and cheaply done resulting in the metal retaining flammability.

Also, didn't have the funds to back Star Citizen, but I am eagerly awaiting it :D

Btw Rapid, could you direct me to where you read about flammable carbon resin? It sounds interesting.

I'm pretty sure I just googled "carbon fiber". Then I googled "carbon fiber flammable" to verify that.

Also, might have a bit of a problem xD Easily overlooked, though.

so basically you want to return some of the natural aspects of the texture pack?

Basically yes, as well as turn to a more industrial look (more caution tape, more pipes and stuff, also more saturated and diverse colors). With all the new environments introduced to Minecraft, it will really look cool to have some exotic environments. (So many grass/flower/logs combos now! I'll be able to work wonders with all of that).

    Quote from Pinaz9

Even Sci-Fi has it's natural aspects. I agree with the carbon thing.

I think that any transparent blocks can take alpha modifications now. *points at stained glass* So you might be able to do some more things with the blocks that have any sort of non opacity in them. Such as doors.

I was also working on the mobs. (I am impatient for the texture pack, so I want to help all that I can. :) ) If you are going to keep some of the natural aspects of this map, then I think that skellies can stay skellies. If I were a mad scientist on a budget, and I knew where a graveyard was, I would use bones as a structural component in my builds. They are very strong, and can easily be dipped in resin to make then even stronger. Add in some robotic parts, a control center, and a brain, then I would have a bipedal robot on the cheap.

See what I am getting at? I have started preparation of a skeleton-based-robot texture. It will have wires running across it's body, and servos at it's joints.

I will post it here when I am done.

Wow thats great news if its true. I hope its full opacity (things can be partially transparent) instead of just binary transparency (either its transparent or its not). That would open up a lot of potential stuff for this texture pack. I don't really have time to keep up with the technical stuff (and most times not even new blocks and stuff), so telling me stuff like this does really help.

That's an interesting idea for the skeletons. Yeah feel free to throw it up here and I'll take a look.

I'm not going to be changing that one bit!

    Quote from NovemberAlpha

So they are carbon now? I was just going around with the idea that they were like some sort of Group 1 metal like potassium since they were supposed to be "flammable" then again, its your choice ^^

Carbon makes more sense so that we can have our organic trees back. Plus it fits in better with the more industrial-type theme I'd like to head in. Also, carbon is definitely flammable. From what I've read, carbon fiber isn't so much flammable, but the protective resin on it definitely is. So it all fits.

Also, something else to think about. I'm considering moving to a more industrial approach for the texture pack. I think it fits better with the feel of the pack. Really, the blue blocks were about two things:

One was keeping it a all a simple color so that I can let players choose the accent color with hardened brick. However I think this is kind of holding me back, since I was attempting to make ladders and such as plain as possible. If I took an industrial approach everything would have a more universal theme, but things would be more-or-less following my colors. Like for instance a lot of the ladders and stuff like that will probably heavily use orange and yellow.

Reason number two is keeping it plainer to help people out who are making builds and such. A more generic blue would fit a wide variety of build projects/themes. However, I think I need to get my priorities straight because this pack was never intended for building. My focus should always be the survival element of the pack, since that is what it was created for (a lack of survival scifi packs).

Also, this more industrial type setting fits the carbon trees thing nicely. Also focusing on the survival element means sacrificing some pillars/logs (which are cool for building) to get cooler environments is worth it.

So yeah think about all of that :D I don't blame you for skimming, I just get in these moods and have to churn out some paragraphs. Opinions, thoughts, complaints, suggestions are welcome as always.

I know I'm about eight pages, and 150 posts late on this, but there is actually a way to go about keeping the trees as wooden natural trees, while maintaining the metallic plank design. I know you've already decided on your texture, but I'm just suggesting an alternative in the case you decide, for whatever reason, to change it. Trees, like most living organisms, are constructed mostly upon a carbon base, correct? Which is why most life on Earth is known as "Carbon based lifeforms". The strongest material known in modern construction is the carbon nano tube, which is an atomic arrangement of carbon atoms into a literal microscopic tube. These tubes are darn near indestructible, and serve nicely for sci-fi metallic compounds. Another alternative, is to extract the carbon and make carbon fibers with them. Carbon fibers are flexible, strong, and very lightweight. As a modern material, they are relatively 'dated' for a sci-fi environment, but that shouldn't necessarily eliminate them.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post, this is an amazing texture pack, and I hope the best for you in the future.

This idea is growing on me the more I think it over...it'd also mean I can go really crazy with the trees, and have some of them more alien since they are all carbon based organisms and don't have to be wooden. We'd lose out on some pillars for building purposes, but it might be worth it in the end. It also reinforces the idea of crafting tables as futuristic multi-purpose machines that can perform complicated production nearly instantaneously.

On another note, I noticed a problem I have as an artist is I'm in a constant state of improvement. I keep seeing these textures and wanting to update them and update them, and in the process never really get any new stuff done. Most of the textures we have are just updated versions of stuff I had shortly after I first released this pack. Just a bit of self-analysis, not sure what to take from that.

I'm working on the GUI right now. I'm going to add a bit more diversity with the colors, like what you see in the new paintings. They'll also all follow the same theme, I think before I had the anvil using a red/orange GUI but now they will all be blue with other colors accenting. For the GUI I'm starting off doing stuff that hasn't been completed yet, then moving on to redoing the older stuff. Hopefully that means less unfinished stuff.

While new textures for blocks are always good, I think we would all like to see the HUD textures finished. Currently they're broken and it really bugs me. Either way you're doing wonderful work. You could do this professionally.

Thanks! Yeah, I'll get right on the GUI. It's not that its hard to do, its just time-consuming so I've been putting it off. I'll post some updates when I can.

(On a side note, can you give me the URL to paste for your sig? The one I gave out apparently didn't work but it looks like you fixed yours.)
