You can still find the new blocks. You just have to travel out to where you haven't been before. Or there are crafting recipes for the new blocks.

Awesome, Thanks. That's what I was hoping for. I've been sticking pretty close to home just in case.

posted a message on How do updates affect current seeds
I'm new to Minecraft and pretty new to games with constant updates (the only other one I play is Prison Architect).

My question is how do new updates affect seeds created in older version? Since 1.8 is going to introduce new blocks and items will I be able to get them in my current world,1.7.5, (without the use of creative mode) or will I have to start over?

I was thinking that the new blocks might spawn in unexplored biomes since those biomes wouldn't have been unlocked until after the update but I'm not a programmer and have no clue if that would even be feasible.

posted a message on is minecraft still scary
When mobs come out of nowhere, admittedly, I jump sometimes. I have a large spiral staircase and for some reason it is a creeper spawning magnet even though it is well lit. Running down that thing at night gets hairy sometimes.

I don't think the game was ever scary though.

How about you stop being a noob when you crack the demo version to be able to play unlimited. Or in my case do it accidentally and then buy the game after playing some 7 hours in the demo.

posted a message on Most boring thing in minecraft to do?
For me it would be mining for specific ores. Seems like if you need or want something it's never around. Other than that if I start to get bored I just ratchet up the difficulty so their is more to do. An extremely boring task like strip mining can get interesting when you turn the difficulty up and only place torches every 30-40 blocks.

I've only seen Mesa, Ice Spikes, and Savanna once in my dozen or so worlds. I've never seen a Mushroom Island (but I rarely venture far by boat). I don't think Jungle is all that uncommon since all but two worlds I've played in I've found jungle within my large map area.

posted a message on Factions Servers Have Gone To
The issue is that in the way it used to be once several people became the dominants of the world nobody could ever get up to their level to compete with them. In response to that sever admins just decided to start everyone with top tier stuff that way even new players have have some chance to do something.

What the OP has described has happened in nearly ever MMO game ever to exist. The key is to keep playing around with starting items till you get a good middle ground or do server resets.

posted a message on Are you kind to trees and other nature?
I had one world where I took out every tree as far as I could see and then I ventured out and continued doing it. I stopped and after a while got bored. My world now I don't take down any trees I de-mine abandoned mine shafts for crafting wood and only cut down trees when I want that type/style to build with.

Interesting. Did you find any onther weird formations in that stronghold?

Yeah an entire floating 2 -story floating library. It was only touching the floor at one block and only touched the walls in a 2 x 3 area. Their are a few of those torch tower things that are just floating in mid air, base and all, along with doors and door frames floating, iron bars floating, and torches not attached to anything.

I think this is the largest stronghold I've ever been in. So far it has three libraries. Which from what I've read is pretty rare. I haven't found a fountain room but I have found a water source block floating in mid air which I am thinking might have been the top of the fountian. It's far away from my home and I only found it while trying to fill out a map and exploring some new stuff. I will be getting back to it eventually but I won't do much with it as I have already found another stronghold and I've set that up as my end portal.

I was able to get on top of it (after dying twice) and it's completely flat but had a chest on it. In the south east corner of the wood plank section.

That's a regular room that spawns in strongholds, sometimes; I'm not sure what it's called, but I've seen them before. Looks like you're in a ravine though, so it's missing the floor, walls, and roof. Usually, that cobble and wood is the upper floor/lower ceiling of a 2-story room. The water isn't part of the room, it just happens to be flowing down through the middle. Here is what it looks like from above (from the wiki):

Oh cool. That's exactly it. I've never seen that room before at all. Thanks. Perhaps a treasure room? or maybe a barracks? Odd that that room is only 2 blocks high when everything else is 3 or more.

I've been in a couple dozen strongholds by now in various survival worlds but I've never seen this structure before in any of them. Granted I also haven't seen any stronghold as fractured as this one is. So maybe it's spawned/created because of the nature of the stronghold? Anyone seen this before. It looks kind of like an upside down well that's right side up. If that makes sense.

    Link to bigger picture here.

After trying to get around it a bit more. the water is coming from above it. It's doesn't have a water source. Also it has a ladder behind it so you can get on top of it. I haven't gotten there yet though.

posted a message on What makes the best location to set up base?
I like to start on the edge of a jungle. Near a large body of water. It causes some issues at the start since seeing creepers kind of sucks but once you get going it's a great starting point.

When I first started I did it fairly quickly. I was in the process of building my first house I found a small cave that had a dungeon in it. I know it was more than 3 minutes but it was less than 10.

posted a message on How many hours have you played in your main survival world?
4.68 days and I feel like I haven't done anything. Most of the time was spent mining other than that all I've done is build a couple houses and a few largish fort type structures. the original intent was to make the basis of an adventure map but I liked the starting point of the world enough to just play.
