I did do multiple chunks, it worked, but despite what gun said, chunks that generated around it weren't "Farlandsy", but, that's no big deal, at least we can get multiple unlaggy farlands chunks. I just need to know how to upload it to mediafire, I've never used mediafire before, do I upload the entire foldr, or just level.dat?
Wow, I changed my spawn to the farlands after deleting the excess terrain, the chunks generated to replace the ol ones are amazing, one close by the spawn chunk is filled wih random floating trees. Sadly, I still haven't figured out how to move it to 0,0, so it still has lag, but less lag than before, only lsightly though, presumably due to the fact that all chunks are generated like that now. Any ideas on how I could move the chunk to 0,0?
Edit: I just realized something...all chunks SHOULD be generated like that now, so if I moved my location to 0,0, I THINK it would generate chunks simlar to the farlands.
Good luck with this, I really have no idea on what to do here XD
I edited the first post though, asking for anybody with skills in tinkering with game code to see if they can help.
It is the position: if you read Notch's tumblr regarding terrain generation, the reason movement, lag, and the Far Lands freak over there is because he uses floating-points to keep track of player position and movement.
At values too high or too low, those start to freak, you get rounding errors, wrap overs, and...the Far Lands!
So if someone makes a Far Lands chunk, 0,0, would it act wonky?
I actually just found out about it earlier today, so no.
But, like someone said in a YT comment, someone should sooo make a mod that makes terrain generate like the far lands. So you can play on it without lag :biggrin.gif:
I second this :biggrin.gif:
In fact, if I ever get to play in the Far Lands without lag, I could possibly be motivated to make an SMP server with it as a map :biggrin.gif:

I just want to play in the Far Lands like normal D:
But I only get 6 FPS. I really hope one day someone will figure out a way to keep the unique structure of the Far Lands, without game crippling lag, and distribute the map for us :biggrin.gif:
It seems like a very amazing place to be in.
I think I'll try copy/pasting the farlands chunks to 0,0 and hope that it's the position causing lag, not the chunk itself.
Could we get someone to hike out there, use MCEdit to grab the chunk data, then save it into a file at 0,0? It would be a lot of fun to play in the Far Lands, even if it wouldn't generate more of them.
Is this possible? If so, someone needs to do this. Now.

Read the second page if you have some skills with messing with game files, we're seeing if we can change a chunk from the far lands into a 0,0 chunk.
Edit: Breaking news! TheGameofLife just managed to transplant a few chunks of the Far Lands into a less laggy location! Try it out! Theres only 5 chunks, but its still pretty cool.
I just found out that the Farlands existed, and visited it. I experienced severe lag, and didn't enjoy it at all. Personally, I would love to explore the warped and twisted landscape of it, but its just unplayable.
If someone could possibly replicate the generation of the Farlands, without the use of rounding errors in the coding, it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm trying to imagine Minecraft with Modding API... It's incomprehensible. The flood of mods compatible with it and each other without issues, it's both a beautiful and terrifying sight.
The Good:
"Steampunk Airship, Hoverboat, Steamboat, Pistons, Gear Reimplent, and HEctoR BRINstonE Sentient Super Computer are all updated and compatible!"
The Bad:
"Humans created! Works with Humans+, Humans++, Undead Humans, Villagers, Homo sapiens, Human race, and Human villager pack!"
The Ugly:
"New mod out! Rocket fuel! Don't use the Missile fuel mod, use our Rocket fuel mod!"
"Once that update is out, we’ll spend some time figuring out exactly what to do with the modding, which should result in a nice modding API."

I'll add sample map added into the title, so it doesn't get moved into the modding section.

You could always edit yourself there.

I personally use NBT editor, to change my XYZ coords.

Only if there was a generator capable of doing this, eh?
Anyways, good job! :biggrin.gif:

The entire save, I believe.

Good job! :biggrin.gif:
Lets see if multiple chunks are possible now.

Your experiences with it?

Oh, and this is what the Farlands look like:

Opinions?
This doesn't concern the 1.4 update, so I didn't post this in the 1.4 update thread.
