    That looks cool!

How does it look using a jack o lantern instead of lava? It might be safer!! maybe not as much light tho?

Jack o'Lanterns would take more work to place, cause you can't place them on the fence.
Either way, try it out! See if you like it better.
I love the look of the lava.

Very inspirational! Nice use of the new trapdoor features and singular iron bars :steve_wink: It would be interesting to see this with iron trapdoors with redstone blocks and levers placed skillfully!

You can place a RS torch inside them and they will close into the torch. But it only gives off light level 7. Mobs will still spawn.

posted a message on Lava Lanterns (aka Lava Lamps) using 1.9 Trapdoors - 100% Survival Friendly

I was playing around last night and discovered an interesting new lighting design.
I like to call them "Lava Lanterns", but I know lots of people want to call them "Lava Lamps".
Here's a step by step guide on how to make the Lantern in Survival - http://imgur.com/a/HWfg2

    NOTE:
Picture was taken with doFireTick on TRUE and randomTickSpeed set to 1000
Fire can spread but just careful how you place them.
Lava does not spread as high as fire though. See the guide for info on that.

    What do you think?

    FAQ:

Q: How do you do that without command blocks?
A: In 1.9, trapdoors no longer need to be attached to any block.

Q: What happens when the trapdoor burns up?
    A: Trapdoors do not burn.

Q: Won't the lava burn up the fence post?

A: Nope. Lava doesn't consume the block below.

Q: Won't the lava come out if I open the trapdoor?
A: No. The trapdoor still occupies the blocks beside the lave. They stop the lava like a sign stops water.

    Quote from Lord_Ralex»

If you have a specific version you wanted to see on the list, we will add it. But until I have a discussion with all my mods + other admins about just putting them all, we won't.

I believe I already started which versions broke in the my post above. Only each map maker can know for sure whether their project does not work in newer versions or not.

But to me, now this discussion has become redundant.
You have someone (me) who has both made very successful maps and played many many maps. I have personally told you the importance of adding prefixes. (Side note: I don't feel snapshots are needed either). But you need to discuss this with the moderators and admins, who much like yourself, are likely unaware of the importance of map versions.

I'm not sure what else you're looking for? Are you looking for a community consensus? A vote? Because I know a lot of people in the map making community who can echo the importance of labeling releases. I can tell you users will gravitate towards the latest version of Minecraft. They might only search for 1.8.8 or 1.8, but next they will search for 1.8.9, then 1.8.10. But we only have 1.8. And you can't just add 1.8.6, because if my map is made in 1.8.8 I don't want to label it as 1.8.6. So I might as well just use text in the thread title instead of bothering with the prefix.

So if you're asking me directly, what version of 1.8 broke a map, I can't speak for everyone. 1.8.4 broke scoreboard UUIDs. 1.8.6 broke command block dispensers and I I've been told 1.8.2 broke some custom modeling...

As you mention you have lives outside the forum, so do we. I work a full time job and have a family. I also have more Minecraft projects and run a youtube channel. I know responsibilities. But I've also spent countless hours dealing with people claiming bugs to my maps. And many times it's because Mojang altered the code and the players don't understand every version isn't the same. I host on Curse and they even include up to date versions (although I have to remind them at times). So I know it's not an unreasonable request. I'm trying to help by bringing these items to the forefront. Or even take the responsibility. But that option is not available so I have to request instead.

No offence sincerely, but at this point I probably won't use any prefixes unless they are as up to date as Minecraft stable releases are. I don't see the point. Labeling a map that is made in 1.8.8 as 1.8, is misleading and can possibly not work. I'd rather have working projects played by users than wrongly labeled map posts that have a pretty red button on the thread title. The prefix concept is a great idea but doesn't seem like people want to evolve it further if it creates more work.

Finally, this post wasn't meant to offend. I mean this all with respect. But I'm trying to provide the best info I can towards the issue.

Only Citric can get prefixes added, and as I said he's a little busy with other important things :P

Yes, I understand. He's been busy for a year.

It's not that prefixes are hard to make, it's that there are issues that take a higher priority. This software is still new and still has a lot of bugs to iron out. Therefore they take priority of something this minor. It isn't hard to put [1.8.8] in the title as a temporary measure.

Um 1.8.1 came out in Nov 2014. That's a little to ridiculous say "there are issues that take a higher priority". It's more accurate to say prefixes are not a priority.

However, this problem could be easily solved if the responsibility was put on someone who cared about updating those things rather than the admins who are obviously occupied with other forum related issues.

Considering that I am the admin of the section(s) you want those in, I have not seen you ask for those prefixes to be added.

EDIT: okay, found the thread from May asking for it, missed it.

If I am not mistaken, 1.8.8 is compatible with the previous 1.8 versions, so having 8 prefixes for a single compatible version is horribly overkill, and would make the prefix list impossibly long. This is where the 1.8 prefix comes in. Any 1.8 version can use it. So that is your 1.8.8 prefix. That being said, this ultimately relies on Forge, and so if they break every version with mod compatibility, then that is something that would make me consider having every version ever being listed, although it just makes things longer.

I will also point out that there is only 2 people who can actually edit prefixes. citricsquid and Puyodead. Any request for prefix changes is first decided if they are needed by the admins, and then citricsquid adds them. I have not seen any request for a 1.8.8 (or in fact, any 1.8.x prefix) nor for a snapshot prefix, which in the modding section, would make no sense.

First of all, no. Not all 1.8 maps are compatible. For example, Simburbia cannot be played in a version newer than 1.8.5 due to dispenser randomizers being removed. Other issues with ArmorStand scoreboards found other maps broken from one 1.8 version to another. I personally had to tweak my Diversity 2 map twice between 1.8 versions simply because of dev changes. I've played a lot of maps and can testify not all 1.8 version are the same.

Regardless, it seems there are multiple versions available for 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7. So I did not understand why adding more versions for 1.8 is an extensive request.

As for my "handful of times"

I asked here in Sep, Nov, Jan - only Sep was acknowledged.

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/forums/forum-discussion-info/2203130-thread-prefix-for-1-8-1

    I asked here in May
    http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/forums/forum-discussion-info/2435193-1-8-x-version-prefixes

Finally, labeling a map as new as possible indicates to the forum users the map is up to date or it's a new map they may want to try. I am not in the modding community . All I know is the vanilla map community. So I can't say anything on Forge updates.

Prior to the prefixes, we were simply using digits inside square brackets. I really love the addition of prefixes and thought it was a much better indication of version. But if those aren't going to be updated, I don't see the point of having them at all. We might as well go back to our old indication method. Either that, or make it available to type in any version prefix tag. I'm not sure if helps with searches, but that would be a big bonus as well.

I'm not sure what the delay is in actually keeping up-to-date with Minecraft releases, but this site has gotten very neglectful.

Considering the forum isn't accepting any new mods, this is pretty ridiculous.

I have asked for this a handful of times and has been ignored. You need to update thread prefixes. The latest prefix selectable for the mapping forum is 1.8
We are currently in 1.8.8 as well as snapshots and have been far past 1.8 for months.
